I just made my room only reservations for aug 2004 at POR and had no problem paying 1 night now with the balance at check-in. Just wanted to thank everyone who made such helpful suggestions! Now the hard part, waiting for more than a year to go!!!

Congratualations! I did the same thing last August 1, 2002. I made reservations for Thanksgiving week of this year. Just think of the fun you will have planning the trip. You will have plenty of time to reseach, gather information, and select what is best for you when you go to Disney. Reading the DIS is important because of the good people here who keep you informed as to what is happening at Disney World. Enjoy you experience ! A trip to Disney World is more than just the days you are on site !
