POR request question

Hi all, I'm not sure if I should put this here or directly in the resort thread so please move if it's wrong.

We will be at POR in May. It will be our first time staying there (we have only been to Disney once and we stayed at FW in our campervan).

I've read a lot and have done some research and based on what we like, I think Alligator Bayou buildings 38, 39, 34, 25, 26, and 28 will be preferred (by us, not "preferred" according disney). We would want to be on the 2nd floor. I don't mind walking so I don't need us to be anywhere close to the big pool, the bus stops, or the lobby area.

How should I submit this request?

Are all of these buildings relatively the same?

What should I put in there? Other than really not wanting to look at a parking lot, what would you recommend? I requested specific loop at the campground and they got that. We got there early enough to make it work.

I read that I should not try to request specific rooms -- and I wouldn't know which ones would work anyway.

Thanks!

I would request AB, second floor. AB tends to be saved for larger families, but nothing ventured, nothing gained, so to speak. I would have those things added to my reservation now, and then do the online check in and request the same things..if possible.

Hello! If you are booked preferred, you will already be in alligator bayou, so you don't need to use that as one of your requests. I find if you are brief and more general, you will be more likely to get what you want.

What I mean is that I agree that you should not ask for a certain room number, because Disney doesn't know what attributes about that room you are looking for so if that exact room isn't available (which is very likely) you might find the room you end up in will not be what you were hoping for.

Also, keep your requests brief and in order of what is most important to you. In my experience, if you ask for what you want in a room like, second floor, close to old man island, or first floor, corner room, no parking lot view, you will have pretty good luck getting what you would like :)

This link allows you to search room views based on what category you booked. It will show you which buildings are in the exact category you booked so you can get a better idea. https://touringplans.com/hotel_maps/disneys-port-orleans-resort-riverside?commit=Show+Matching+Rooms+»&filters[accessibility]=any&filters[balcony]=&filters[floors]=any&filters[lobby_distance]=any&filters[rack_rate]=any&filters[rate_date]=03/05/2017&filters[sound]=any&filters[transportation_distance]=any&filters[ug]=&filters[view]=158

All you need to do is call Disney and ask to add a room request to your reservation....super easy!

Good luck!

I would double check, but when we stayed preferred the buildings were not the ones the OP listed, they were in the teens, like 15,16, etc., I think the OP was just saying that those rooms are preferred by them. However, it is true that the only way to guarantee a AB room is by paying and booking preferred. (Although Disney still maintains the right to change your res!) Families of 5 who book are put here, so if you have 4, your taking your chances if you book standard.
Last time our family of 4 booked preferred we were put in handicapped room without our close to pool request filled. The time before that, our Magnolia request was filled.

Oh yup sorry...I misunderstood :goodvibes Thanks for the clarification :thumbsup2

I don't think you mention what room category you booked. Sounds like you mostly want to avoid parking lot. Did you book standard or something else? With standard you have a chance of parking lot view. If you booked something else you'll likely not get a parking lot view. Just thought I'd mention it as something to consider

And as someone else pointed, what size is your party? That will also impact which area you get.

I am curious as well. We asked for mansion rooms with the lady on the phone, but now should we also do a fax request?

Thank you guys for all the help. Yes, we booked a standard room and I definitely meant what we preferred, not a Disney "preferred" class of room.

I will keep it simple and hope for the best.

It won't hurt. As long as you repeat the same requests, nothing can be overridden and won't confuse the room assigners
