would you spend the extra money for a preferred room which is about $300 for our 8 night stay and if so why? if not why not? thanks.

Nope. I would not book Preferred but I might book another category if your math is for a Standard Room, which means facing parking lots.

Why?
- I could do much better with my $300 than cutting a few minutes off a few walks.
- I do not like 14 at all due to all the food court noise, pizza delivery trucks and the food delivery trucks.
- I would also not be happy with 15 due to the same type noise and surrounded by parking lots.
- That leaves two buildings..... which if I booked preferred I would call and request one of those.
- Stayed in 16 facing pool and loved it. I felt it was way better room only a few yards further for less money.

Not many options for online check-in so if I were concerned I would call and have verbal requests put on my reservation ...
- If I wanted Mansions, I would request "Magnolia" and nothing else.
- If I wanted Alligator Bayou, I would request whatever your concern is .. "close to food court" ....

I'd also arrive early so if I am not happy I had a shot of moving.

All I can say is that we have stayed there 6 times (twice in RGR) and do not see a need to spend extra $$ on preferred. If a family had someone with health issues then yes, but for us even when we were at the back we still enjoyed the walk.
