Por Pool Refurbishing?

I read somewhere that the pool at POR was being worked on. Does anyone have any information on this? I'm staying there in November and was just wondering if it would interfere with my plans. I'm sure if there was any work being done that it would be finished by then. Any info. anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Where did you read this? That would be my luck! Last year we stayed at ASMO and the pool was down for refurbishment then.

I posted a thread about this last week wondering if anyone knew. It is posted on the Unofficial Guide's website. It says walls have gone up around the pool and playground at POR. We leave in 27 days and I don't like this!!

You have got to be kidding me? I know last year a few weeks before we went we did get a letter in the mail from Disney telling us the pool would be closed. Did you receive anything like that?

No. I'm hoping it's a rumor-but I'm not so sure since it is listed on that website. The website updated it on 7-13 which was Friday. I'll goa nd look it and try to post it. I'll be back!

I think I found it. It says something about the walls were put up around the pool and playground. Maybe for better lighting or something along that line. Maybe if it is just for some new lighting it wont take too long.

Okay-it's not on the website as news anymore they just have it it listed under rehabs- the details are gone:So maybe it's a rumor that it's starting soon?! Iam confused- I got the original link from another discussion board and I can't find that thread now either. I just hope it isn;t true- my kids would be devastated!

When it comes to changing out rooms, this is fairly routine as Disney is always monitoring their resorts. Unless it's a full scale remodel, it's considered standard maintenance and is not included in the refurb/rehab schedule.

Now thru 4/30/09 - Guests will see and hear ongoing construction during this time. All building activity will take place during the daytime
Disney All Star Sports -
Surfboard Pool and Kiddie Pool closed for refurbishment from 8/27 - 9/13. The Grand Slam pool will remain open and guests can also use the pool at the two other All Star Resorts
Disney's Boardwalk Resort
Big River Grill - Closed from 8/18 - 9/1 - Atlantic Dance will be used temporarily while this restaurant is refurbished
Disney's Contemporary Resort -
North Wing closed for an undetermined time (Photos)

Disney's Coronado Springs Resort
Francisco's expanding thru 10/12. It will reopen with a bar, lounge, cafe. The La Tienda convenience store will be relocated as part of this refurbishment

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
Hoop Dee Doo - 9/4 - 10/24 - Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays during this time for floor replacement. Regular performances will take place Thursday thru Monday

Disney's Grand Floridian
1900 Park Fare will be closed for refurbishment from July 9 thru October 1. During this time, the Grand Floridian Cafe will be hosting the Character meals. (Lunch at the Cafe is temporarily discontinued)

Has anyone called POR directly to ask? I will try to do that sometime tonight to get to the bottom of this. I will report any info back to you after that call. We are going August 25th and looking forword to using the pool.

I leave Aug. 21, and I hope this "refurbishing" only lasts a short time. There may be storm damage to the pool. We have to stay on top of this, I will do a bit of researching on this tonight.

this would so not be good as my DH is serious about his pool time and slides. and we are not going into the parks this short trip, just hanging out. . .you know, by the pool?!

I want to know also. I am taking my son for his 11th birthday 7/29 - 8/2 and we chose POR over POFQ just for the better pool and slide. Please tell me the pool is open!!!

OK Here is the official scoop i received tonight about the pool. I spoke to kim at the front desk and she said that there is no construction going on at the pools. There is construction going on at the playground area and a wall is up around it during this time. The playground construction will be complete sometime in September. So great news for all us pool people but bad news for the kids who like the playground.

pirates4 - Thank-you very much for the update! I notice that we will be there the same time as you - we are also going on the 25th. I am so relieved to hear that it is not the pool. My kids are really looking forward to the slide. It is my experience that it is too hot in August to use the playground most of the day anyway, so that really shouldn't be a problem.

Aw, crap, LOLOL Having never been there maybe I can just say no there is no play ground, LOL. I wonder what "sometime" in September means? We arrive the 16th.

When I called it seemed to me that the playground would be done the begining of September but she could not be 100% sure. So she said sometime in September. This is our first stay at POR so I hope its a good one.
