POR or Poly?

I know we are comparing a moderate to a deluxe, but I think both look like lovely resorts. Is the Poly really worth the extra $$$ for the location and monorail? Is your vacation enhanced that much by having these two benefits?

Whether or not it is "worth it" is completely subjective. So different people will feel differently.

It is "worth it" for my family to stay at the Polynesian. Our boys do not need to share a bed, the beds are queen size (as opposed to doubles in the moderates), the monorail to both MK and EPCOT is so convenient, the rooms are large enough to really relax in, and the tropical, torch lit pathways transport us to another place. It is like having 2 vacations in one, very active at the parks and very relaxing at the Polynesian.

I've stayed at the Poly and really like it, but we spent our last 5 trips at POR. We can afford the Poly, but I just can't justify the cost. There are lots of reasons we go with the mod vs. the deluxe. We have our car onsite, so it's super convenient to walk out the door and go straight to the car. I (unlike a lot of people), like the door to the outside vs. a patio. We just didn't use the patio that often when we went. We don't mind the Full Size beds because the beds at POR are very comfortable. We love having a food court and restaurant. We spend a lot of time at Epcot and MGM and a drive in our car beats waiting for a bus (it was literally a 5 minute drive to Epcot). We love the boat ride to DTD. We love the quiet pools.

Now the price. We were quoted $5900 for 9 nights, Dining Plan, 10 day passes and we ended up booking POR for $2900 for the same exact package. That is a $3k difference or a whole second trip.

When you compare both Resorts obviously the Polynesian is going to have a lot more then Port Orleans Riverside, since one is a Moderate and the other is a Deluxe. Even though my family and have not stayed yet at the Polynesian, we have had a lot of stays at the Contemporary and I can tell you the location and the Monorail make our stays at WDW a whole lot better and much easier.

Can I ask......What were your dates? I just booked the Poly for the exact same thing, and got 7100 as my quote.....Or do you have less people than I? I have 3 ad and 3 little ones, but one is under 3.

Our last trip we stayed at the POLY and loved it. Our next trip we wanted to spend less money so we are trying out the POR. We will then know %100 if the POR will be okay or too small for our family of 5.

POLY has huge rooms, 2 queens and a day bed, usually a patio or balcony. So, in room size there will be a considerable difference in size. So, it will be interesting for us going from the POLY to the POR.

I am staying from 10/29- 11/4 10 days 9 nights no dining plan for $3800. We have park hopper passes and insurance. We have 2 adults 3 kids( one is under the age of 3).

It has been a tough decision for me to justify that extra money but we ahve decided to go with Poly. My youngest will be 10 months old so we decided that the monorail and the extra space will make life much easier.

For us, the Poly is worth it. Even without the monorail, it is worth it. Is a very beautiful and relaxing resort. I will say that the resort (and others) are getting close to pricing themselves out of contention. So today the Poly is worth it... Maybe not tomorrow.

I have 2 adults, 2 children 9 nights, MYW with hoppers and dining, Lagoon View Poly. I had a code for the first week in December. I still thought $6k was too much. I'm frugal.

That's really funny how people think- I am having the EXACT same dilemma. For POR, our vacation will be 2653. For Poly, it will be 3700. I am trying to decide if it it will be worth it for a grand. I am thinking yes, but I don't know!

We have stayed at several of Disneys resorts over the years from All-Stars-CBR, POR, BC, BW, Poly, Cont Tower and so on. I always look for the best rate but our upcoming trip was booked 43 days out and will only include myself, ds (15), and 2 dd (2, 8 mon). My main concern was ease of transportation. So the Poly was the one. We stayed at the BCV's in June and it was great on the boats to MGM/Epcot but dragging that double stroller on and off buses to the MK and AK was just a headache. We plan on touring all parks this trip but MK will be where most of our time is spent.

My advice, book what you can comfortably afford. Look at what parks you will spend most of your time in. Will you spend alot of time at your resort? With 2 small ones we need easy access to our room for naps and the occassional meltdown, the Poly canot be beat with small ones. The resort is laid out to where you are not more than 5-6 minutes away from anything at the resort no matter what building your in.

We stayed at the Poly for 3 nights in June before moving to the BCV's and just loved it.

Thanks everyone for all of your thoughtful replies. I am really leaning towards spending the extra $$$ for the Poly. I think DH will enjoy his vacation so much more if he can jump out of MK easily to get some down time at the resort. We are definitely not the commando touring type. We enjoy our down time at the resort as much as we enjoy the parks. I also think having the monorail to travel to EP will be huge. DH loves WS.

All of that being said, I think POR looks like a lovely resort. I really would like to stay there some day too.

That's the best reason there is for choosing a Deluxe! Well put!
