POR or POFQ?

OK...here's the big question, which resort should I choose? It's me, DH, DS9, and DD5. We're going the first week of February.
I have heard that some parts have been renovated..please mention if possible! Thanks so much!!!:chat: :chat: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

We just returned from the renovated Mansion section at the POR, and we loved it. We can not wait to return, we are hoping the AB section will be done with renovations to try something new.

We checked in with no requests and were offered a room in AB, I asked the CM to put us close to the pool and lucked out with Arcadian House.

We definetly loved this resort, thinking of trying the POFQ, but loved the POR so much, and our DD (5) loved the pool. This is a definite for our next trip pending AP discounts.

Good luck with your choice.

between POR and POFQ. I had originally booked us in AB section, since we're a family of 5. But the pix on Deb Wills' site looked dumpy. We ended up splurging for 2 rooms for the week at POFQ (we got the mousesavers codes). I think my bias was more against AB than POR itself. The "rustic" theme isn't my thing.

Let's face it, either way, you can' t lose!

I've stayed at both, most recently at POR. POR is now my favorite. We did visit POFQ once this visit to use the pool and enjoyed it. All the rooms in the mansion section of POR are newly renovated (the AB section will probably be done soon). I like the look and feel of POR more than POFQ. I think the grounds are prettier and I liked having a quiet pool right near our room. I personally would pick Port Orleans Riverside.

We've done both. We prefer POFQ due to the fact that it is so much smaller than Riverside. The pool and playground area are probably more suited for your 9 year old at POR...while the same at POFQ probably would appeal more to your 5 year old. Rooms are identical in size the only difference is the decor. You can get a good look at both on Deb Will's website and I think on this one, also in the photo gallery. The food court at POR is larger than at POFQ along with the store being larger at POR than at FQ. Keep in mind, though, that POR has another 1000 rooms and the people to go with those rooms.

Everything at FQ is quite compact and there is only one bus stop, which we like. Plust at FQ you are the first on and first off. At night with tired kids that is a plus. You can use the pools at both resorts as well as all the facilities.

You can only rent boats and bikes at Riverside...and there is only a sitdown restaurant at Riverside. FQ no longer has one. They are both nice resorts, though. I think you would like both. You might want to do a search on the site as I know there are lots of posts comparing the two resorts. That might be useful.

Are Deb's photos accurate in that the rooms at POFQ do not have an armoire? The dresser with the TV on top looks kind of "Motel-ish". Plus, we liked being able to put our camcorder, camera, wallet, etc. on top of the armoire to keep it out of reach from our little ones.

Thanks for the info,
Cathy

I believe those photos are correct. They used to have the armoire but I think replaced it with what you see there. Since the rooms look completely different from how they did when we stayed before they closed, I think it is the new, remodeled look. The POR might still have the armoire ... but I'm not sure. I don't think they were taken out when they were rennovated. You can always call the hotel directly to find out if it is important to you. They will know right away.

I have been at POFQ and I think it is a great resort. I would definitely choose to stay at it with kids over the POR. I think the theme and decor is more "fun" and appealing to a child. I also loved being the first bus stop, you can always grab a seat which is great when you have kids. The resort does have less rooms so you don't have to worry about what bldg you are in everything is close to the lobby, bus stop, food court, etc. It is still a short walk to POR so if you wanted to you could always walk to their pool, resturaunt, etc. For adults traveling solo I always say POR but with kids POFQ just seems so much more appealing! Have a great stay! princess:

we much prefer the FQ - the AB rustic look just didn't do a thing for me, we stayed there a few nights and then moved to the FQ as we weren't happy in AB. I thought FQ was beautiful.

You are correct, there is no armoire in FQ, the tv is on top of the dresser - personally we preferred this arrangement as it meant there was space for the coffee maker on the dresser too, in POR it is balanced in the bathroom area and there isn't really room for it.
There are more drawers in the dresser than there are in the armoire - we were able to use one drawer for things like cameras and videos etc to keep them out of the way of the kids.

the renovated rooms in POR do still have armoires.

Personally, I wouldn't go back to POR, I just didn't like that swamp theming at all - I can't see paying lots of money to stay in a swamp! but it is a very personal thing. I thought FQ was just perfect and didn't regret moving at all.

Thanks for the additional information.

I'm happy to hear that the dressers actually have more drawers, that will be a big help plus I was also thinking that the dresser would be about the only place to put the coffee maker. Last trip we stayed at the CBR and could put the coffeee maker on the bathroon counter, but in POFQ, it looks like it is pedestal sinks with just a narrow shelf above.

I am glad to hear that kids like the resort. We are staying there in Jan. with our 3 and 5 yr. old and my parents (who always stay at the POFQ, but have not been there since the renovation). I know the kids will love the pool area and taking a boat to DTD and I will like the smaller resort and being able to get around easier.

Thanks again for clearing things up for me and making me feel better about our choice.

Thanks!
Cathy
