Here's the deal....

We're planning a big family trip next May with our very soon to be born daughter as well as first trip for our nephew and niece as well. Also joining us will be my wife's parents, her brother and sister and their spouses, and maybe a few other people as well. As a DVC member, I've already booked a 2BR for our family and my brother in law and his family (rest of the family are getting regular rooms at BC).

As is our normal custom, my wife and I usually like to go down a couple days ahead of whatever group we'll be travelling with and staying somewhere else for a few days before the park madness sets in. We want to enjoy the resorts in a whole new light now since this will be our first trip as parents. We've always liked staying at POR, but I can get a studio at OKW for about $250 cheaper. I've always wanted to stay at OKW, but I always feared that it was a bit too remote from everything else and that a car would be necessary to get around even at the resort. Now since we won't be going crazy in the parks when we get there, just how easy is it to get around the resort, namely, how easy is it to get to the main pool, Olivia's, etc.? Thoughts?

Just remember that most of the buildings at OKW do not have elevators and you will be using stairs. If you have a stroller that might be a bit more difficult. You could request a first floor villa. You can take any theme park bus to the Hospitality House and get off there. Then if you are further back (like Turtle Pond or South Point), walk over to the Peninsular Road bus stop and grab a bus back to your area.

Okw is pretty nice. walking nothing is further than 10 minutes - the set up is like CBR where you definitely have a lot of walking. that say it is a beautiful place to walk. there is a swimming pool close to just about all the building. where are you getting OKW $250 cheaper than POR?

I was looking to rent points for OKW. That being said, the price I was quoted for POR was for rack rate, no discounts yet. We are most likely going to be purchasing AP's, so I'm sure we'll find a better rate for POR. I just thought it would be a nice change of pace to enjoy the resort fully without having to be tempted by going to the parks due to their proximity.

how many points do you have left after booking your BC stay w/family? - DVC did have a program that your buy from them points (don't remember if it was 8 or 15 points) and don't remember the price.
