Given the same pricing, I'm torn between these two resorts for our family based on the pros and cons I've found for these two resorts.

We are hoping for a Fall 2012 trip with my husband (who has Ulcerative Colitis), and two boys (will be 9 and 5), who love Pirates of the Caribbean.

What I like about CBR:
*The theming, especially the pirates pirate:
*Pirate themed rooms - Is it worth the upgrade? (still debating whether to enjoy the resort to the fullest or consider this a place to sleep and not worth the extra cost to the room since we're already spending the money by upgrading to a moderate resort for the amenities.)
*Fun, tropical atmosphere
*More recreational options for the marina (if we want to)
What I don't like about CBR:
*That reviews say how large it is and the amount walking, or taking an internal bus to the main buildings
*heard the resort/rooms themselves are a bit more dated and not recently been refurbished like POR.

What I like about POR:
*Boat ride to DTD
*newly refurbished rooms
*fishin' hole for my husband and kids to enjoy
*entertainment in the lounge - (is this kid friendly?)
*movies under the stars (does CBR have this?)
*Campfires (Campfire on de’ Bayou / Cajun Campfire)
*reviews say better bus transportation - be better for my husband w/ less time to have to be on the bus for his UC
*the beautiful landscape and feel of a more deluxe resort
What I don't like about POR:
*doesn't have the pirate theming my kids would enjoy

We've never stayed at POR, but we loved CBR :). It's been awhile since our stay there (2002), but one thing that sticks out in our minds after 10 years is the transportation. We thought the transportation was great. CBR is centrally located and we found that it didn't take more than about 10 minutes to get to any theme park, water park, or DTD. We tend to stay deluxe as we spend alot of time at the resort and like the larger rooms and extra amenities, but if we would stay at a mod again, we wouldn't hesitate to choose CBR. With that said, I don't think you can go wrong with either one, but I would choose CBR with a pirate room as I think your kids would love it :goodvibes:.

Just from your pros and cons list, I'd say you would be happier at POR.

We have stayed at POFQ many times and love the charm of the resort. POR is much larger but the nice thing is you can go back and forth and use the ammenities at both places. With the bussing, I believe POFQ is usually first on and first off. The resort only has one bus station (because the resort is small and charming), which might be better for your hubby. POR has several bus stations. I can't say one is better than the other, only that POR is much larger.

We have never stayed at CBR but had friends that stayed there. She felt it was way to big (but very nice). I think each section of CBR is named after an island. They only have 1 food court so depending on where you are, that could be a problem if you plan to use the court regularly. I am not sure this would be the best choice based on your hubby's medical challenges.

I know you like the sound of the pirate theming but maybe you can do something that is pirate based (like the pirates and pals adventure-not cheap but very fun!), or even decorate your room with a few items from home.

Hope this helps! Have Fun :dance3:

After I made this post I was still thinking in my mind to do just that. I've looked at the Pirates and Pals Adventure cruise and had even looked at the pirate cruises for just the kids.

I also did see that the pirate rooms at CBR are in the most remote part of the resort and definitely more walking.

I think you are right and will probably stick with booking here, which I've wanted to after falling in love with this resort from the beginning of looking at it.

I just think I'm looking too much into my pre-booking planning and need to make a decision and know we will have a GREAT time no matter what!

We have stayed at both many times but I prefer the CBR because of the themeing. The POR has better CS than CBR but the CBR has a better pool bar. The buses at both are the pits.

That being said if the POFQ was open I would grab it, that is our favorite resort and since its so small it is rarely available and almost never open with a discount.

By the way, I just noticed that you are new to the boards and I wanted to :welcome: you!!!

I am certain you will have a great time. I do understand putting time and effort into your planning. I am the same way. One thing, if you don't mind my suggesting, is don't forget to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. I'd love to know all about your adventure when you return, if you care to share!

Thanks so much! I'll definitely want to share. I'm anxious to book our trip. We're looking to do a week in September to celebrate our 10th anniversary (on 9/14), and both boys' birthdays (9/6 and 9/22). We have family and close friends an hour from Disney, so we've been quite a few times before, but usually just 1 park/1 day each trip. This is going to be our first time, and I hope not our only time, staying onsite and doing a complete MYW package. While I want to make sure we make the most of our trip, I'm also trying to do what we can in our budget.

Having stayed at POR twice and CBR recently, we'll be going back to POR on future trips. POR had more of a moderate feel than CBR did. The POR boat to Downtown Disney is also a good option if you don't want to hunt for a parking space there. I read a review where the CBR pirate beds are only a top mattress and are uncomfortable. Our room at CBR was musty, but both POR rooms were fine.

For a pirate fix, do the pirate's league and Jack Sparrow's pirate tutorial in the MK. The Pirates of the Carib. store at the MK has a big selection, and you can also get a pirate pin trading starter set. Savvy?

Yeehaw Bob in the lounge at POR is very kid friendly! Tons of families in there and he gets the kids and everyone else involved. It was a highlight on our last trip. Will not miss seeing him again. We also enjoyed Elliott Dyson at French Quarter!

I have stayed in the Pirate Rooms at CBR. They are really cute, but they are located so far from the main pool and food court it was not worth it. I would never stay there again unless I had my own car, and was not planning on using the food court.

We have stayed @ CBR a few times before , once in the pirates rooms this past May and they were really cute. Our daughter loved the pirate beds. This is the futherest from Old Port Royal, but we didnt find it to be that bad and I was pregnant and our daughter was 3 yrs old. Its about a 6-8 minute walk its not that bad. As far as the bus system we have never had any problems, longest we ever waited was maybe 10-15 min. Mk is the futherest park which is about a 15 min bus ride. We also loved the Caribbean feel, music , landscaping is beautiful, and the main pool area is great. The kiddie area is a pirate ship w/ water slides, and dumping buckets! :rotfl: pirate: :rotfl2:

I have yet to stay at either resort (will be at POR in March), but after staying at Saratoga Springs this past September, I have to say the water taxi sells me every time. When people complain about how long the bus is taking at the resort, it's a great alternative especially when there are multiple bus stops at DTD.

And if you're really concerned with the pirate theme, you could talk to Disney Floral to see if they can do something like this:
