I would really appreciate you voting on your favorite part of this wonderful resort. We are staying At POR in September and I'd like to know which is your favorite section? Thanks. :wave2:

Thanks for posting this - I am interested in the results as we'll be staying at POR in less than 3 months  I cannot wait!

I voted for AB as I love the homespun nature and "bluegrass" feel of it. I suppose the mansions do evoke the antebellum plantation mood, but IMO the AB feels more like the "real" South.

(NY'er but born in Alabama)

I loved the AB section. It felt really cozy and secluded! I have never stayed in the mansions, they look really beautiful though!

And I really think it depends on what you are in the mood for.....

Mansions: Rooms are very pretty, more formal and victorian/feminine, buildings are beautiful and have lovely gardens. We enjoyed our upper level water view rooms looking over the resort. The quiet pools are nice, but we never used, more like upscale apt pools. Seemed to be lots of couples and adults when we were out walking.

AB: Rooms are rustic and have the cabin feel. We loved our corner first floor stays overlooking the quiet pool (although you couldn't see for greenery) and the bog. Loved walking around the paths and bogs and bridges, great landscaping. Quiet pools were free form and great for quick dips. More families and one reason may be the trundle beds.

Either way it is a great resort with relaxed southern charm and be sure to cruise all over no matter where you stay.

Thanks for all the info. You really answered alot of the questions I had about the decor in both sections. Thanks again.

DH and I prefer the mansions to AB. AB is very rustic and the Mansions are more elegant. Although, we really like the walk to AB...we saw a lot of wildlife, a lot of bunnies (we have two pet bunnies and miss them a lot when we're on vacation so seeing the bunnies cheers us up).

Well, I thought I would prefer the mansions and ended up staying at Parterre Place in Dec last year after requesting the mansions. I liked the idea of the "elegance", and yes, the rooms were very nice. But after walking around the resort during that trip, I would definitely choose the AB section next time. The landscaping is more lush and the winding paths around the area just seemed more appealing. The quiet pools in the AB section are freeform and seem to fit into their sourroundings better than the rectangular Mansion quiet pools. And the mansions just seemed big to me. From a distance, they are very attractive, but up close I felt the large scale emphasized the exterior corridors. The AB section has a lot of little buildings hidden away in the lush greenery.

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful time!

When I first decided on POR I just knew I wanted the mansions but then I would read how AB was whimsical and quaint. That word whimsical just seems to have the Disney magic to me. I am so excited about your opinions. Thanks again. :wave2:

We just got home Apr. 4. We had originally requested bldg 14 -AB with no preference for a water view room, but when we arrived we were put in Parterre Place- Mansions room 9715. It was beatiful, with a view of the quiet pool. It was on the second floor and was very convenient to get to the main bldgs. Just a quick walk across the bridge and we were there in a few minutes.

Then, because we were heading to Royal Pacific at Universal for one night in the middle of our week (for the FOTL passes -which were great), we had to check back into POR. My bil had mentioned when we checked out the first time that we'd be back and would like to stay in bldg 14 AB if possible. Well, we got bldg 14 - room 1447 with what the cast member said was one of the best views in the resort, a full view of the Sassagoula ,right above the white sandy beach where kids fished and played. It was a perfect location, 30 second walk to the main bldgs, with no extra waterview cost. We loved it- but I still have a hard time deciding which was my favourite section. I'd recommend both and would be happy to stay in either of these bldgs again because of their close proximity to the main bldgs and bus depot.

Just remembered one little thing - we're used to staying at our family's cabin quite a bit, so the AB wasn't too different from what we're used to - the mansions were something new. Just something to think about ;)

Thanks for the details :)

and would say we prefer the AB for the rustic look, vegetation and nice trails. When we were there in '99, you could hear the faint sounds of crickets, bullfrogs and roosters being piped-in along the trails early in the morning.

I always wanted to stay in the mansion section but with a family of 5 couldnt. We ended up in AB section and loved it!!!! I was so pleased I didnt stay in the mansion section after all. There are lots of photos in my album of POR, but the room photos are before they were renovated. I own my own pair of POR ab section curtain I loved the place so much :goodvibes

Thanks so much for the info. I just called my TA and requested AB bldg 14 because we have paid for waterview so I'm hoping for pixie dust. Thanks again

It really depends on your personal preference - majestic and antebellum or rustic and secluded. We walked and gawked at POR and personally I loved the Mansions from the exterior. We haven't stayed at them, but they are beautiful from the outside.

Magicmouse2 those are some great pictures you have there. Thanks.
