We are looking to stay at POR for our next trip this xmas/NYE. We have eaten at most of the restaurants that we would like to do in the parks, so this trip we would like to eat in more of the resorts. One of the reasons why POR appeals to us so much is because of the boat to and from downtown disney. I think most of our days are going to go something like this:

morning: theme park (MK, MGM, etc)
Dinner: take park transportation to resort for dinner
After Dinner: take resort transportation to DTD and take boat back to POR.

Is this a good idea? We won't have a car, and i thought that this would be a good way to get back to our resort after dinner, since there is no resort-to-resort transportation. Does the boat take forever? Is there a bus from DTD to POR?

THanks so much,
Nicole

Sounds reasonable. The boat ride takes about 20 minutes and, yes, there is a bus to and from DTD from POR.

Sure that will work! Just make sure you find out what time the last boat back is, and get there in plenty of time. Have fun!

Hi Nicole:wave2:
When I'm not at the Poly, I am at POR!!! You will love it! This is a great idea, you will have a magical stay, I'm sure of it!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Snoopy5386, I am going to POR soon for Spring Break and I will try out your idea, I will report back! I am at POR because I wanted other transportation options. I am planning on PS for the Boma (breakfast), Cape May Cafe (seafood buffet), Yachtsman Steakhouse (last night tradition) and probably lunch at either Bongos or Capt n' Jack and an evening at PI.

When did they reopen the boat transportation at POR? 2 yrs ago when i tried to get a boat from POR to the market place it wasn't running:confused:

The last boat leaves DD for POR @ 11pm. After that you have to take a bus.

DisneyDee...we had the same problem when we were there. But they opened it back up again. We used it to travel to DD several times on our first trip to POR (DxL!!!) So, when we got back there we had planned on using the boat again. Imagine my dismay when we had to take the bus.The family we traveled with were really disappointed after the build-up I gave them as to how wonderful the boatride was. Just remember to have a sweater with you. It can get a little chilly.

Snoopy,

Something to keep in mind: transportation between resorts is not direct, and takes some time. I don't think that resort to resort transportation is a priority for Disney. Whenever we went from our resort to eat at another resort, that's when we used our rental car the most.

Just my two cents.

Since you said you are going at Christmas, I thought I would mention what happened to us last January. We took the boat from POR to DTD twice, and it was lovely. However, both times we had to take the bus back to POR because they stop running the boats when the weather gets too cold. It worked out fine, and we made it back, but both times the bus waiting times were by far the longest we experienced all week. It may be as cold when you are there-although at busier times perhaps they continue the boats in cold weather.

We were told by our bus driver that the last boat was at 10 p.m., this was last week.
