POR Garden view

Hello, fellow DISers! I got a PIN for a percentage off at a moderate and was able to shave a couple hundred bucks off our stay while upgrading since there were no more Standard View rooms for that Discount.

Is there a section of the Resort where the views/amenities are better? Before we were requesting building 14.

Building 14 is now a Preferred category, so you will have to pay extra for that. Check out the first page of the POR thread for maps for other nearby buildings if you dont want to pay extra

I'm aware of that but we've also had the luck before to be upgraded to a preferred room from a standard so I had my travel agent note that down

The prospect of getting upgraded in the moderates is gettitng slimmer, since they added several new booking categories, that had previously been requests. Also, one of the surest ways not to get an upgrade is to ask for it.

Not sure if the Magnolia Bldg is preferred or not. I think it is..Well when I arrived I asked the CM if there were anything available in the mansions ( upgraded rooms ) the cm gladly checked for us, & low & behold he got us in Magnolia. The room was just around the corner from the elevators in the middle of the bldg. 1st room up from the main stairs going out to the back gardens. SO so clost to that bus stop for returns from the park. Real close to quiet pool, & also a sort 4 minute walk to main pool. And also close to the main bldg...Ideally a great location.. Keep out some hope, you may get what you want...

We got a garden view room also, because for the free dining the CM told me that was all that was available. The CM I spoke with told me we would be in Alligator Bayou section. I just assumed that is where the garden view rooms were. Anyone know if this is true?

Not sure if it is or isn't. I thought mine was a garden view. We were in mansions Magnolia section. And facing the back courtyard area which wa a ll green with flowers, so I just assumed it was garden. The other side of the bldg was facing the river.

We are booked in a Royal Room Garden view. Those rooms are only available in the Magnolia Bend section, so I would assume the the other two buildings in Magnolia Bend have garden view rooms as well.

All sections have Garden Views. Magnolia and Acadia House are not preferred buildings, those are only in AB. Of the preferred building, only bldg. 14 has been refurbed so far.

As noted, all areas have Garden view rooms. The Mansions are not preferred bookings. Only AB has preferred category.

If you have 5 you will be in the AB section. If you are 4 or less you can be anywhere.

We prefer The Mansion section, either Acadian House or Magnolia Terrace. Both are great locations, and they have finished their refirb. We had a new room in Acadian House last Aug, and thought it was very nice.

While it is always possible to get a free upgrade esp. if you aren't going in a busy time, it's not something you can ask for.

If you booked GV room cat. you can ask for a location in either AB or Mansion, depending on what area you want to be in, and ask to be near food court, bus stop, pool, or what ever it is you want to be close to. They will try to accom. your request within your booking category.

Yes, we're a family of 5 and the baby is now counted as a "person" at the resort so I suppose we'll be in AB I don't mind, I kind of liked the fancier decor of the other areas

I can say I do prefer the mansions, because of the decor, but now they have updated AB, I would almost want to stay there. But I just love the feel of the mansions.

I've stayed at POFQ in August '11 and will be in POR June '12. I am hoping for a mansion building. What do you all like about POR v. POFQ?

Love the theming.
Food court is better.
Has a restaurant (but, boy do I miss those breakfasts).
Yee-hah Bob in the lounge Wednesday through Saturday night.
Direct access to the marina and all the amentities.
Leisurely ride to DTD.
Lots of pools to choose from.
Spread out, so you never feel crowded.
Multiple bus stops, always close to one.
More buildings with views of the river and gardens.

That being said, POFQ can use all the amentities at POR, I just like having direct access to everyone of them.

I'm curious to try this one out. I really did enjoy POFQ too. Although, I admit, its gift shop was so small in comparison to POR. I could be in that gift shop for hours looking around.

OMG, that is the way I go out to the bus stop every morning after breakfast. I cannot break myself away from that place. I spend much of my time looking at the pins. They have a wonderful selection.
