POR-FQ Rumor question??

I realize that POR-FQ is under referbishment for the next 2 yrs but just read a rumor on another message board saying that FQ may never re-open at all as POR-FQ and that they may turn it into a completely new resort. When I was at WDW 2 wknds ago, I did notice that the sign on the big iron gates for FQ has been taken down completely.

Anyone know the real story? Just curious~

Something about that does not sound right.

I would think that, given the 'look' of POFQ, any changes in theme would require a great deal of 'cosmetic surgery'. The thing with the Disney Hotels is that most of them are built with the theme in mind so they are not just buildings that can be completely refitted to reflect a new theme.

However, if this is true then they can change then name of POR back to Dixie Landings!!

That's what I was thinking too but then when the other message about this rumor I had read went on to say about the signs on the gate being completely taken down, it got me rethinking

BTW, I completely agree with you too about POR-R LOL -- It will always be Dixie Landings to me too

I wouldn't read anything into the fact that they took the sign down. They also did the same thing the last time they closed it up for "refurbishment" in 2001-2002. They probably just do that so as to make it less noticeable while the work is going on. I think they also temporarily remove the name from the roadsigns that point out directions to the resorts.

We checked out on May 3, the day POFQ closed for refurbishment, and when we left the resort at 11am they already had the sign down. It was sad!
