YEA!!:cheer2:

Finally got DH to stop objecting when I told him we ARE going to WDW for Mardi Gras - I figured silence was consent - so I BOOKED OUR TRIP!!!

Unfortunately, our fave BCV was booked (we usually rent points) so we decided to try POR - we haven't been there since it was Dixie Landings! The winter rate has us at $94.78/night tax incl. - I think that's a great deal!

So...my questions are...

Any suggestions for building preference or even room # - I plan to submit all my requests at the 4 day window when they assign rooms and hope for the best.

I've already requested one of the mansion buildings - I grew up on the bayou and still live too close to it to choose Alligator Bayou for vacation:teeth:

Anyway, if anyone has a suggestion about a certain building and even room #, or for that matter, any building or room to avoid, I'd love to hear from you.

Now, I'm off to set another timer...:cloud9:

Hi there! And Happy Thanksgiving!

Our favorite section of POR is the Magnolia Bend section - the Magnolia Terrace building was our favorite so far (we've stayed in all sections except for Parterre place). It's convenient to everywhere and very nice.

That said, I would not request a specific room # as your chances would be slim to none of getting a particular room # - if someone is already in it, they will not be able to put you there. Instead, simply request, bldng.name or #, section of the resort, view, smoking or non and so on. You'll have a much better chance of your request being met that way. Also, I'd put your request in when you book and then later either fax and/or reiterate them to the CM checking you in. There was a thread a little while back from a CM who I think worked at PC who said that unless the resort had conceirge, they weren't really paying them much mind as they were overwelmed by so many and that it was a pain to have to hand match them all. If you want to go that route, it probably can't hurt as I've heard lots of people since say it still works but I'd then also still put your requests in when you book originally. Those requests will be forwarded to the room assigners at the 4day mark and will also be right in front of the CM checking you in.

Anyway, HTH's some. Have a great trip!:wave2:

Great tips! Yes, I see your point about the specific room #...The CM I worked with in reservations recommended Magnolia Bend - the "Oak Manor" building. Right now, I just have Magnolia Bend, non smoking, 1st floor requested but I still have to call back to pay my deposit - couldn't find my CC when on the phone - too overwhelmed with the thought of actually booking:crazy:

Anyway, when I call back, I'll request Magnolia Terrace and then remind again closer to the trip. I missed the thread wher the CM said they don't pay attention to the requests - all of our previous trips had our requests honored - we were always told we were in the minority to do so - I guess the secret's out and everyone has the insider's tricks to play now!

Just got back a couple weeks ago from our stay at Parterre Place. We were in room 9720 and I've also stayed in 9712 & 9715 and LOVE the location. It's second floor on side of building nearest the quiet pool. You're steps away from the bridge to the food court/main bus stop and also the quiet pool/laundry. It's also got a parking lot very close by, which is important to us as we use our car to get around alot. The room was renovated with the most comfortable mattresses in the world! I couldn't stay awake once I sat down in the evening to watch TV. One night, I was just about asleep at 7:30pm - of course, this was after 12 hours of the parks/walking, but for an insomniac, it was heaven to sleep so well.

The room has the fridge and the sink area does have the privacy curtain, which would be nice if you're there with kids. The housekeeper, Ricardo, was wonderful and even left my first ever "towel art", even though it was obvious it was just 2 adults in the room.

I had originally requested to stay in AB, but since there were no rooms available when we checked in at noon, they offered the mansions which were available, so I was able to request the exact location of where I wanted to stay. I'm so glad I did as this trip with my DH was about my bestest yet!

I agree with Snoozan's post. We stayed in Room 9725 last month and I loved the location. It was quiet, romantic and not too far away from everything, including bridge to lobby and parking lot. We were steps away from the quiet pool. We had the same mousekeeper as Snoozan - Ricardo. He was great and gave us a lot of towel art. I've also stayed in Acadian House, but I prefer Panterre Place and will request it again.

I wasn't considering that bldg. b/c I'd read on other posts that it was the farthest bldg. and too much walking.

Now, you're making it sound really good:D

I like the idea of the quiet pool - although we're going in Feb. and I doubt we'll swim much - still, I like the setting. I also like getting positive mousekeeping reports - i wonder if they take requests for Ricardo:p After our disney cruise, my kids were so spoiled by the towel art. Also, one of the reasons DH was so willing to stay at POR when we couldn't get BCV is that there would be housekeeping.

He doesn't know it but I booked 6 nights instead of our planned 4 - the savings b/w BCV and POR paid for the 2 nights easily - so having a great housekeeper over that length of stay would be really nice.

I'm assuming all of these rooms are now renovated. Does anyone know for sure?

Also, so far, it sounds like all the bldgs. have good points - anyone have any warnings about where not to stay? My own personal thoughts are if it's at Disney, it's all good, but we all know there's good, and there's better:teeth:

P.S. I think I'm just going to start making random posts on the boards, for no other reason than I like seeing my TWO counters in action - honestly, only YOU all understand the thrill and immediate rush it brings to plan a new trip - I've avoided the boards for a couple of months b/c after our cruise letdown, it was just to hard to visit w/o a future trip in the horizon. Anyone know that feeling?!?!

I'm pretty sure all the rooms in Magnolia Bend(mansions)are all renovated now. Last I heard, they were not yet done with AB, but sounded like all had the new mattresses. I'm not sure if all rooms had the frigs yet, but right after we got to our room, a housekeeper came knocking to be sure we had one in our room(#9720 in Parterre Place)as I had requested one on my original reservation. There was already one in a nice cupboard in our room, but I was pleased they thought to come check.

Please don't misled into thinking Parterre Place if far from the main building. If you request the side closest to the quiet pool(and have them point out the room location on the map before you leave from checking-in), you'll find this is probably the closest to the bridge that leads to the main building/main bus stop/marina.

The quiet pool is very close and wonderfully heated. It felt warmer than the main pool when we were there in November. We walked to the main pool once and stuck our toes in, but then turned and went back to our (quite large)quiet pool. There's no slide or anything fancy, but it does go to about 5' deep so it's a nice place to float around.

As you can tell, I'm a big fan of Parterre Place. So much so, I'm kind of disappointed I've already rented points for BWV for my next trip as I'd love to go back to POR. The biggest reason we enjoy BWV is the ability to walk to MGM & Epcot(my favorite park).

I'm sure anywhere in POR would be okay to stay in, but be aware, some of the AB buildings are a LONG walk away from the main building. My best suggestion is to have them point out your room location on their map before they officially assign you to the room. I've gotten the desk clerks to change my room location once in a while by politely requesting they check for something else. I don't always take the first room they come up with and if you're nice to them, they're usually nice to you!

We have a lot in common - I bet we'd love Parterre Place, too:earsgirl:

I'm right there with you about the walkway to Epcot, also my favorite park, and I love entering at MY secret International Gateway:p

We've never stayed at BWV but absolutely loved BCV. However, I didn't think we'd miss the housekeeping BUT WE DID! And from what I've read allover these boards and others, people rave about the housekeeping at POR.

Still, I think renting points is the best value out there! When I was first looking (before all rentals were gone!) I could have gotten BCV for $130/ night - Disney's price was over $300! BWV is still available for that price but DH opted for POR and we're getting more excited about that decision by the day!

It's been years since we've been there but both DH and I said we'd definitely stay there again(POR) and that was before any renovations!

The heated pool sounds great and I'll definitely pack suits for the kids but I'm a Louisiana girl and heated pool or no, any temps. below 80 degrees outside and I'm not getting wet:crazy:

 We got back a few weeks ago. Stayed at Magnolia Terrace and we LOVED IT!!!!! We had IMHO the best location. Our room was 8738 second floor facing the quiet pool- which I have to say was lovely. I asked to be closer to the front of the building because it had the bridge to the main pool area and restaurant area. The room was beautiful and newly renovated. I can't say enough about this resort- pictures do not do it justice!! Have a great time!!!

HI.. all these reviews are getting me soooo excited! We are going next weekend,. first time to POR.. have stayed at POFQ and loved it, but couldn't get "the code".. so went with POR..

My question is this.. where is the hot tub? which building do I want for closeness to that and also the main building and buses.. want to use the main bus stop as I've read it is the best one to go to. I have the map. and I'm torn between Oak Manor; Magnolia Terrace and AB- #14.

All suggestions are greatly appreciated!

enjoy your weekend away from the computer.. I guess I'll pack!

We have stayed in Alligator Bayor 15 or 1400 building and loved it-close to dining hall and bus stops and a very short walk to the large pool

As a fellow Louisiana girl I am with you on that lol. We stayed at POR once (although it was in the AB section since we are a family of 5) and you will love it! I was hesitant because I thought I live in Dixie, why am I staying at a resort on vacation that is themed like Dixie? But I was proven wrong. Very relaxing place to stay. Enjoy!
