POR - Building 18

I leave Jan 23 for my four night stay at POR. I am at the point when it is time to request a room. I have read over alot of the old posts, and it seems that building 14, is the way to go. But I am little out of the ordinary, and I am requesting building 18. For two reasons, first-according to the unoffical guide building 14 has alot of foot traffic. They said building 18 is more out of the way but still close to everyone. My second reason (theory), is that my one concern about POR is that it is one of the older resorts and has not yet been renovated, and people have commented that the rooms seem tired. I figured since building 14 is the most sought after, those rooms have been stayed in far more than any other building, so building 18's rooms may not be as tired looking.

Here comes the question .. I am traveling with my two nephews, one has severe asma, I just want to make sure building 18 is non-smoking. He wouldnt be able to handle the smoke smell.

I am going to answer my own question. I found the POR FAQ thread on this board. But I will post the answer for anyone else looking for it.
Smoking is permitted in Buildings 17, 27, 28, 34 and 36. at POR

I wanted to reassure you about bldg 18. We stayed there in Dec, and it was a fantastic location. It was off the main drag (we actually got lost trying to find it when we checked in, and the first time coming back from the bus stop. then again, we can be a little inattentive!)

I really liked it, and I was happy to be there Have a great trip

I don't know if they 'rotate' smoking buildings, but a year ago Thanksgiving we were at POR and Bldg 18 was definitely a smoking building. Although we had requested non-smoking, we somehow ended up assigned there. I had all I could do to get to the phone to request another room. The CM confirmed it was a smoking building and reassigned us to Bldg 27, which was a great location.

We stayed in POR 18 and had a great time. It was a five minute walk to the bus stop no more than when we were at the mansions.

According to allears ( http://allearsnet.com/acc/faq_dxl.htm), building 18 is a smoking optional building.

Klh999, if by chance you do get building 14, don't worry. I stayed there at the end of October and it was fine. I did not notice a lot of foot traffic as I sat outside that building in my wheelchair for almost an hour in the late morning one Saturday (I was waiting for my luggage to be picked up at prime-time check-out time). I wonder what disney will do... I have now requested building 18, but I also have on my ressie non-smoking guaranteed. I guess I should call and switch it to a different building.

I believe one of the above posters maybe correct in saying that they "rotate" (for lack of a better word) the smoking buildings every few years. We have stayed there a few times and bldg. 18 and 14 were smoking at one point ( we stayed in #25 or something like that then).
If you were guarenteed NS then I would trust which bldgs. they say are the current NS.
They may have refurbished since the smoking days - I think it was around 1998 -99.

I am going to do some further research. I dont tend to trust what the CMs tell me because I have gotten numerous wrong info from them. More times than not, I find out more from these boards. I feel once a smoking room always a smoking room. Stale cigarette smoke lingers. HUM.. I am just worried that it will send my neph into an ashma attack. He has already been hospitalized on several occasions. So I dont want the magic of his trip to be from his hospital bed. Which I dont think will happen from cigarette smoke, but I am an over cautious Aunt.
