I am looking for some advice on where to stay at POR. I will be with my wife on our one year anniversary and we would like to be fitted accordingly. Do you recommend the Bayous or the Mansions, and which ones in particular?

I think you can request one of the two types of rooms, but I dont think they can guarantee it. The manisions, in my opinion seem more romantic (in terms of furniture, setting, etc). The bayous are more back woods kinda living, with log beds and all. Very rustic. I will link you to some pictures of both.

Personally, if it were me, I would stay at the mansions. But then, you may have completely different taste than I do. Another good option is Port Orleans French Quarter. My husband and I stayed there for our honeymoon, and we found it to be a very romantic setting. ;)

...and for your trip I suggest Mansions. More "grownup" side, more formal and the gardens are beautiful.

DW and I have stayed in both sections and prefer the Bayou section over the Mansions. The Mansions maybe more "romantic" but they just seemed to be more removed from the resort for us. We stayed in AG14 and liked the short walk to the main building and pool area.

No matter which section you pick you should love POR. It's our favorite moderate. :)

Personnaly I wouldn't worry so much about which section, I would be more concerned about location. Trust me, the closer to the main building the better. Both sections are nice and the grounds throughout the resort are beautiful, so look for location.

We stayed at the Mansions (at Dixie Landings ;) ) on our honeymoon. We loved it - and went back many times, always requesting the mansions. We were lucky - they tell you they can't guarantee that request. I didn't mind the walk over the bridge to the main building for dinner. And there is a bus stop right behind, or a parking lot right there if you rent a car.

I've stayed at both sections and for an anniversary trip I'd probably choose a mansion. More formal and the quiet pool may be a bit quieter although I don't have any complaints about the AB quiet pools.

Magnolia Mansion is very convenient to the main building. A lovely quick walk over the bridge.

The Magnolia Mansion also has a bus stop directly behind the buiding.

Although they may not guarantee a specific section they have always met my requests. My trip there last week we were assigned our rooms (once again) in the Magnolia Mansion and I nicely asked if they had any available in the AB section because we wanted to try something different. They gave us different rooms with no problems.

The CM's at POR were great and so was Mousekeeping. Enjoy your trip. :flower2:

Having stayed in both, I definitely prefer the bayous. The Masions are, indeed, more formal, but I think there's something romantic about the meandering paths that take you to the various bayou buildings. I find the "Old Deep South" backwoods atmosphere to be more romantic than the formal mansions which, to me, feel more like just another fancy hotel.

We stayed at the Bayous for our honeymoon in 2002 and it was wonderful and very romantic. We stayed in building 14 and we were close to a quiet pool but not too far from the main pool and the food court. We liked the wandering paths and rustic feel. We'd have stayed there again in August when we go back but we joined DVC so we will be at VWL--like the rustic thing, I guess.

The one time I stayed at POR, it was in a section they called Riverside, and I HATED it. it was swampy looking with what looked to be ponds of murky swamp water, croaking frogs etc.. and I was afraid that a snake or a lizard or some swamp creature would find its way under my door. I checked under my beds every time I went in that room.
I will never stay at POR again. even if it was free! (and I am serious)

Hi,

The themeing of the Bayou section you want to think of Huck Finn. The themeing of the Mansion section you want to think of Gone With the Wind. You can request a section but please keep in mind that it is just that only a request and therefore may not be granted.
