POR Atmosphere

We stayed in a Royal Room back in March. I didn't feel like it was very far from Anything We were in The Oak Mansion.

I guess that's what I'm worried about, that the resort and particularly the Alligator Bayou section would feel woodsy like WL.

Lots of recommendations for the Magnolia Bend rooms, and truthfully those buildings and rooms appeal to me more, from what I've seen in pictures. But I know POR is very spread out, and I'm afraid Magnolia Bend would have me walking a long way to the pool and the food court. I don't mind logging a lot of miles at Disney, but I recently stayed at AoA in a Cars building that was furthest from the main building. The 5-minute walk to refill mugs got very old very fast, simply because I had to do it so many times a day. That's why I was aiming for a preferred room in AB.

Decisions, decisions! Any more info and opinions are appreciated.

If you avoid the princess rooms, you're not that far from the main lobby at all. It is NOWHERE near as big as AoA.

If you stay in the Acadian, Oak, or Magnolia Building you'll be pretty close to the the bridges which will bring you right to the lobby.

Our first stay there we were in the Acadian with a room facing the smaller pool and it took no more than 5 minutes to SLOWLY walk to the main bus stop.

Last year we stayed in a royal room towards the back and it was 10min tops.

POR is our favorite onsite resort. We usually only book preferred as we like to be close to buses, food court & a great quiet pool. However last year I wanted to try the mansion side & for DH & I it was a huge disappointment, we didn't like the feel of the rooms, nor the hike to the food court, etc. we were in Magnolia Terrace. So this October we are back to AB Preferred. Love the feel of the rooms and the relaxed atmosphere if the bayou & it's rooms.

I feel like the Mansions look beautiful from a distance, but once you're up close and walking around them, the ambiance is lost. It felt like a hot concrete jungle walking around the mansion section to me.

POR AB every trip. It's well landscaped, quiet and the pools are awesome. The feedmill is large and cheesecake is available till midnight. The atmosphere is southern and the buses have many depots.

Thank you all, again, for your responses. I'm definitely going to book POR preferred. I've got to try it at least once to know if I'll love it. And even though it's unknown to me, I'm way more excited to try out POR than I was about CR (which I only love for its location).

And I'm very, very excited about the food court at POR...magic cookie bars and who knows what other goodies, all at my disposal for three days!

Exactly how I feel, the mansions look nice from a distance especially from across the river. But up close they feel bland to me. I like the landscaping, the winding paths and the scattered buildings of AB better.
