por are bad reviews true?

We really like the resort - it is very relaxing. And we have always gotten a corner king room in AB, and liked our locations. We have had problems with mousekeeping each time - they even messed up and threw some of our items out. Upper management was very helpful, lower and midlevel not very helpful. I think it is hit or miss, but worth a try. I probably would get two rooms in your situation, or try a Ft. Wilderness Cabin.

Have a great time!!!

We checked out of POR AB Bldg 15 on Friday, the 25th. Carpet had one red stain on it, but it was no big deal. Mousekeeping was wonderful. Little towel critters for the children, lots of extra towels for the adults! Food court was very good, especially the pizza. Boatwright's was open for breakfast and dinner and they did have a piano player at night.

On the boat ride to Downtown Disney, we saw the swimming pool at POFQ and would definately like to stay there!! It looked awesome!:Pinkbounc

You asked in your post if you are making the right decision by staying Port Orleans with five, so even if you are asking about the RESORT, I'm going to give my 2 cents on the rest. We are going in January and are taking my mother to help with the kids. To begin with we were going to get one room at the AS's with a playpen for our toddler. Then we talked about doing the moderate with one room.

Then I posted here, and we got to talking. I love my mother. I would say we are pretty close. My husband loves my mother, I'd say they are pretty close. However, we do not live with my mother. We will be away from home anyway on a different schedule, and we decided that we needed to have two rooms. So, we booked two rooms at the AS. I'm hoping for adjoining rooms, but will take connecting (did I use those words right???) We will have privacy, and I think we will be able to enjoy each other a little more this way.

Sorry if you weren't looking for this type of opinion, just hoping to share what other people on this board shared with me :)

I think you mean you are hoping for connecting (rooms with the door in between) but you will take adjoining (rooms next to each other with no door in between). Don't worry I used to do the same thing with those terms-lol!

I agree with the posters who talked about 2 rooms. We went on a long trip back in 2001 with my mom and decided to opt for 2 AS rooms. It was nice to be able to do our own thing if we wanted and she could go back & rest or stay in her room & have her privacy. On our trip there was only me, Dh & DS plus my mom--I couldn't imagine having more people in one room, if you can avoid it.

HTH!

Well...I heave read many good and bad reviews about POR. While I do value the opinions of the "Dis"ers...I tend to go with my gut feeling.

Yes, we have a a few problems at POR...slow check-in, snotty CM's, rooms looking tired and worn and sometimes the cleaning people coming late.

BUT...none of that would EVER stop us from staying there. As you can see below..it is our summer home away from home.

We have stayed at ASMu in 97 and we would never stay there again for the simple reason...too many kids. We have no kids so for us the values are not our choice. We have stayed at all of the Mods and we just prefer POR.

A few reasons why we like POR...

1. Good selection in the food court.
2. Boat to DTD.
3. Several quiet pools
4. Lovely grounds.
5. Carriage Ride.
6. Selection of resorts to stay at.
The theming of the AB and Manor sections.
7. Boatwrights ...great food.
8. Bob Jackson. What a great day to end the day.
And many more !!!!!!!

We have never stayed at a deluxe resort. (We hope to some day)

But my question to everyone is....

Do you see more of a negative response from those who have stayed at a deluxe ...then "come down" to POR. ?

And Vice Versus...do you see more positive responses from those who stayed in a Value and "upgrade" to a Mod. ?

I have stayed at POR four times and on my way to my 5th visit. The first time that I stayed there I was worried about the fact that it was the lowest price hotel. I couldn't complain because my in-laws were paying. After that stay and visiting every disney property, I have chosen to stay at POR (Dixie Landings) each time. We all love it. This year we are going with several families that are staying at all star movies. I asked my 10 year old if he wanted to stay with his cousins (which of course I thought he would) or POR. He said "POR is our Disney home." The decision was made. We have 4 children and fit just fine. One child will spend the night at the other hotel with grandparents or aunts and uncles...but we love POR. If I won a trip and could stay at any hotel, that would be it. I would love if they had concierge or upgrades, but the beauty of the property is enough for us. People complain about the walk, but I love the walk...it is nice and peaceful and one of the things I like. Hope this helps you decide.

We have always stayed at Moderates, and prefer the POR for its relaxed southern charm. For other travel, we would normally stay at hotels in the deluxe category. But we only sleep in our rooms at Disney, and spend the entire day and evening elswhere, so POR fits the bill.

We travel with three adults and two kids, and found connecting rooms to be the best accommodations. The trundle option makes the room too small.

When travelling, you are bound to encounter unexpected situations. It takes a certain 'savoir-faire' to handle them reasonably, effectively and without aggravation. Have a magical day.
