I'm a father of two boys, 2 & 8, planning a trip next June. My wife's mother also want's to go along, making a total of 5. We've stayed twice before without my mother-in-law at All Star Movie & Coranodo Springs. With 5m, I'm limited to Port Orleans or a Dexlux resort. I've read quite a few negative reviews about Port Orleans. Are they true?
Thanks,
Jim

Although I've never stayed at POR, I would think that the people writing the negatives about it feel it to be true:confused: As with any resort there are both good and bad reviews. Only you can decide for yourself which is best for your family situation. For me personally, I think 5 is tight no matter what, then throw a mother in law in to that mix, it could get even tighter:) Perhaps 2 rooms at one of the values may work.

Good Luck.

discalimer: I really do like my mother in law;)

I loved POR. Stayed there twice. Once in AB and once in Magnolia Terrace. I have to say that I think it will be a very tight squeeze with your 5. My dd slept on the trundle and she just fit (she turned 6 on that particular trip). I wouldn't want an adult to sleep on the trundle and the only other option would be for you mil to sleep with one of the boys. I also would suggest two rooms, connecting at an AllStars. Your boys would love it and you won't feel nearly as cramped. Or try a deluxe. We're staying at the Polynesian in 3 weeks and my dd, now 9 and 5' tall, will be sleeping on the daybed, which is a twin size bed. But, at $299 a night, it's pricey. You could get two rooms at POR for that price!!!!

Unfortunately for us our experience was horrible. We have visited WDW over 32 times in the past 12 years, each time staying at a resort on property, all of the value anf moderate, and most of the deluxe. On our last trip we split our time between POR and WL(our favorite) to save money. We were assigned to a room in the bayou section, which was fine with us. When we checked in to our room, 5 of the 6 light bulbs were out. We called the front desk and they replaced them. Then we noticed how dirty the carpets were. If you walked in socks or bare feet you feet became black. There was a knob missing from a dressser drawer with a screw left sticking out in its place. When we turned back the bedcovers we discovered several types of stains and hairs on the sheets and blankets. But the bathroom was the worst! The wallpaper was peeling and mildewed. When we pulled back the shower curtain, not only was the tub and tile covered with mildew, the bottom of the tub was black with dirt. I ran my finger over it and it was filthy. I called the front desk and asked to be moved to another room ,but they assured me that they would do a deep cleaning of the room while we were in the park. When we returned the room smelled of clorox and there was a new shower cutain liner but the overall condition of the room was still poor. At that point we gave up and waited it out until we moved to the WL. This is the ONLY bad experience we have ever had staying on property, and I am sure after the renovations are complete this resort will be restored to its glory!

We have stayed there twice and had no problems. Just remember people are more likely to post about a negative experience than a positive one.

We stayed there twice in the last year and a half and LOVED it. Everything was beautiful and clean. We stayed in the mansions both times.

POR used to be our favorite place to stay before they changed it bytaking away the sit down restaurant and combining it with Dixie Landings. It was so good that this cheapskate upgraded from the Value resorts gladly but alas no more. Maybe some hope after the renovations that they might add the magic back?

Coming in from the parks and enjoying an evening with the piano player and then a quiet walk around the parklike landscape, with the moon reflecting off the water was a magical thing.

We (4 of us)were there for 10 days in early June at Oak Manor. The sit down restaraunt is still there, and also the piano player. The room was fantastic!!!! Nuf said.

We stayed in Alligator Bayou in March and our room was immaculate. The grounds were perfect and we really had a great time.

However, we had a bad stay at the Allstars when we tried them so you just never know. I've read bad reviews about all of the resorts at one time or another but remember that it's all the same company after all.

We stayed at POR a few years back and didn't care for it much. The room was nice and it was clean, but there was just something I didn't like about it. I can't quite put my finger on it! I prefer interior corridors, but didn't mind it at ASMu. Also, at the time it was nesting season and we were viciously attacked on more than 1 occasion by evil birds:mad: !

We LOVED POR! The staff was fantastic! We have stayed in Magnolia Terrace and in Alligator Bayou -- definitely prefered the Bayou section! It was so easy to get to the food court and to the buses, and the staff was great. DS turned 6 on our last trip, and the staff delivered goodies and made the trip really special for him.

On our first stay there, when it was still Dixie's Landing, the valet who drove us and our bags to our room in the mansions had been an animator/illustrator for another company, and had moved his family to Orlando waiting for a job with Disney. He gave us all kinds of tips and really made us feel like insiders.

I don't know about sleeping five -- we only travel with four -- but overall, our experience there has ALWAYS exceeded our expecations.

last weekend 6/18. Had a great room in Alligator Bayou and thought the resort looked great since the refurb.

As seen in my sig, we have stayed at POR many times. We have yet to experience a negative stay. We're just back on 7/22, and everything was great.

Since we are a family of 5, our only lower cost one room option is POR. My 16 yo DD sleeps on the trundle bed, with her feet hanging over just a tad if she stretches out. Of course, she is very petite, just over 5'. But it does work for us.

I do notice the rooms are tired looking and could definitely use a rehab. The room that we stayed in was always clean and serviced well. Now that they have Riverside completely opened up for the time being, staffing levels match the guest needs more adequately.

Everyone has their favorites. We actually got to see some of the deluxes and they're beautiful. You'll have to gather info and make your own decision. There are some websites with pictures and info. Off hand, I know Suite Disney offers a lot of great pictures. I hope everyone who had a negative experience, had a great one the next time to make up for it!

Our first ever on site stay was at POR (then Dixie Landings) Yes you read good and bad about it. There was nothing bad about our stay. We stayed in one of the mansions and it was magical.

When ever I pick a resort there seems to be a lot of negative reports about that resort. So I read then, probably the worst thing I could do. I start to second guess my decisions.

I have never been disappointed at any of the Disney Resorts. They all have wonderful theming and all are magical.

I suppose I could nitpick about little things. I'm not visiting Disney to find fault with a resort, Im not doing a review. I'm here on vacation, I have better things to do then find little things that may be wrong. If there is a problem it's usually corrected with a phone call.

Relax you will love POR it's a great resort.

I agree with Momtomootoo.

I would prefer two rooms. We have done five in a room a couple of times and it hasn't been bad but that was just us and our kids. With fifth one being another adult, I would opt for the two rooms. Ditto on the disclaimer!

We loved POR. We were in AB bldg 16. They were painting 14 & 15 last summer. The room was clean and mousekeeping was great. There were 5 of us: me, DH, DS 15, DS 12 and DD 5. The 12 yr. old slept on the trundle. WE were fine! We planned showers, some at night some in the morning. Your MIL would probably have to sleep with one of the kids. I do wish they would put bigger beds in the mods, though. I really hate doubles!!

I wouldn't worry too much about bad reviews. Disney hotels are for the most part really good and it seems to be a matter of preference. Some people love All Stars and frankly I did not have a good experience there but only because is wasn't my type of hotel. Others don't like AKL and I loved it and would go again in a heartbeat (if I could afford it lol). I'm staying at POR in September and can't wait and I'm not letting negative reviews worry me because for every one bad experience there were probably ten or more others who loved it. As for five people in a room - can't help you there but wherever you end up I'm sure it will be a magical vacation! Have fun.

We have stayed at POR and POFQ and really enjoyed both of them. The staff and rooms are wonderful, and we never had an unclean room. There will undoubtedly be people who received a room that may not have been clean thouroghly, but those are generally few and far between. Don't be scared off by a few bad reviews - I always say, try it once and judge for yourself!

I love Port Orleans, The atomosphere is perfect and I feel the resort is wonderful! Personally I would stay there anytime. I definetly prefer it to Coronado Springs, which personally I would never stay at again if I had a choice.
