POR--Absolutely Beautiful

Thanks for posting :thumbsup2

We are staying there in September (73 more days :jumping1: ). Our first time on property! We are just too excited!

I am so glad POR is getting so many great reviews. I was really concerned when we first booked our November trip. I was not sure about staying a Moderate resort, was considering putting out the extra money for a Deluxe...(really, really didn't want to!!!) But hearing all of this great stuff, I am beginning to be convinced that POR was the right choice. This will be our first Wedding Anniversary and our son's first visit!

I keep counting days.....:tigger:

Anyone have any recommendations for where to stay at the Riverside. Looking for an area that would be close to a good bus stop.

We have been staying at the Port Orleans Riverside ever since it was called Dixie Landings and we absolutley love it there! We love the pools and the fishing hole! On our last trip we took advantage of the bike riding and we got to see the rest of the beautiful POR.

Count us as loving it too -- To the point if codes are released for our next trip we'd rather take the cash & stay put then upgrade hotels.

Our only regret last trip was not enough time at the the hotel. We are remedying that next trip & spending more time at hotel!

This is going to be a blasphemous post but:

I'm going to jump into this thread a second time to state - overall - I enjoyed my stay @ POR . . . . MORE than my much more expensive stay @ AKL. (And we had a great 2nd floor view over the Arusha savannah).

Maybe it's because I like opening my door and being outside, maybe it's because the savannah's at AKL are such a roulette game (some mornings you wake up to animals - maybe a zebra or three - maybe you get a few giraffe's - maybe - nothing for 30 minutes or maybe no 4 legged animal shows up AT ALL), maybe because I like to have a lot of space to walk around in (AKL has no large walking around spaces - except around the pool).

Don't get me wrong - the Pool at AKL was awesome (and generally, under populated) the animals were always amazing to sit and watch from the balcony (WHEN they were there - WHEN I was there) - and the food at Boma & Jiko amazing - but I never relaxed THERE as much as I did during our stay @ POR,

At AKL we were constantly going through the lobby (magnificent as it may be) and sort of had to make a point to get outdoors - (balconies don't count as outdoors - though breakfast with wildlife in view is hard to beat - if you wake up early enough to catch it) - but you can't move about and stroll on a balcony. When on vacation, I like to step out of the room and take a stroll - and maybe not come back for 30 minutes - AKL felt a bit confining actually.

For as OUTDOORS as it's theme is - it's a very INDOOR place to stay at for 10 days.

But @ POR I could open the door in Alligator Bayou, slip away at night or in the morning and walk and walk and it was always quiet, intimate (i.e. to oneself) and relaxing. At night - the cicada's sang - and you can't get that kind of joy in Burbank, CA.

At AKL I subtly felt pressured to be on the animal's schedule: Wake up too late and they are already beating the heat - come back from the parks too late and they are away under the trees resting.

When you know you're spending $X to have animal views it's kind of a downer to come back to your room, sit on our porch and - "nobody's home" (the nature of animals). Just looking over a big immculated groomed $avannah - that looked the same way the day before.

I suggest anyone with kids stay at AKL - AT LEAST - once.

But if you happen to be a childless couple, in your late 30's / early 40's and are looking for a great "once a year - 10 days away from work - Disney" relax-a-thon Then go and get some rest @ POR while you play your days away @ WDW.

We are staying at POR for the first time in October! So glad to hear some more positive comments about this resort! We can't wait!:cool1: :cool1:

I'll be at POR in August for the first time. I'm a little nervous!
I'm concerned about transportation but we will have our own car so it won't be that bad.

we loved POR. We were there in May and had a great time. It was very peaceful. We were in AB 38 and didn't see any other guests go by our room. We were close to the mansions and used their quiet pool a couple of times.

We love POR also. We go every Feb and I can't wait!!!!! I fill "homesick" LOL!

Sorry, but I must post an additional comment!!! All day, I keep coming back and reading this thread....and I can hardly stand it...I want to leave today...this thread has me sooo excited... What am I going to do for 18 more days????

POR is the one resort that we return to every year, and my kids made me promise that we would, even after joining DVC. It is a beautiful resort to spend some time at and relax.

We got back yesterday from a weeks's stay at POR--it was beautiful:yay: . The garden areas were blooming & colorful. The wildlife(ducks, herons, egrets, loons, bunnies & lizards) were amazing to watch! Everything is crisp & clean. The foodcourt was good--at little crowded at any time of day! Our room in Acadian House was quiet & peaceful. I'm actually amazed at that a resort that big was that quiet--all the time:thumbsup2 . The pool was nice & not too overcrowded. The smaller pools were nice too. I will definetely stay there again!!:flower3: When we checked in, we were allowed to go right to our room & we checked in at around 1:30 pm:cheer2: . We recieved 3 towel animals during our stay---one puppy and 2 bunnies:cloud9: . My DH pirate: & I celebrated our anniversary:hug: we were given buttons to wear & everywhere we went CMs greeted us--we even got a heart of confetti at our lunch table at Liberty Tree Tavern on Sunday.
Sounds like you had a Magical Time!
We will be there in Sept. and was wondering what you thought
about the Mansion side of POR ? I requested Mansions because
I don't care for rustic decorations like the AB side.
Thanks for your feedback. From your report, I can't wait!!!

So glad you liked it! This is home to me and my family! We love Alligator Bayou(never thought we would) and the whole resort is just gorgeous. You described it perfectly!:goodvibes

I love PORiverside. What an amazing resort. It is truly beautiful. I just love to roam the grounds. Also enjoy taking the boat to DTD. POR and WL are my absolute favorites. I think both appeal to nature lovers.

Thanks for the review!!

I am so happy to read your review and all of the others who have echoed your positive comments. We will be at POR in 2 weeks and I can't wait!!! I love how you see all the wildlife and the foliage. I have requested AB but I know I'd be happy at Mansions as well. Thanks again :thumbsup2

Reading all of these post is absolutly going to drive me crazy  We leave tomorrow morning for our 3rd trip to Disney. Tomorrow seems sooooooooo far away! :dance3:
