POR - 2 day trip!

I'm soo excited to be spending 2 nights at POR next month - first time staying there. Although it's a whirlwind visit, I'm pretty excited because on this trip we weren't orignally planning on going to Disney at all, so this is an added bonus! We won't even be venturing into the parks (we go every October) and really want to enjoy the resort. Anything we should be sure to do/see? We've already seen Bob Jackson a few times (looking forward to seeing his show again!). I want to take the boat to Downtown Disney and back. We booked a gardenview room. I hope that's okay? Is this basically a standard view room, or is there a separate standard view category? I'm off to read the FAQ thread on POR, but I thought I'd write a separate post too. Thanks!

Congrats on the unexpected trip. I think that garden view means no parking lot views
Staying at POR you can also go over to POFQ and use their pool (or least sit by it depending on the weather) They have a jazz musician several nights.(never caught his show in all the times we've gone we are usually off seeing Bob at POR or at the ESPN Club watching a game)
We always eat dinner in DTD if we don't have an ADR.Make sure you go to Ghiradelli for ice cream one night (or afternoon)
If you want to check out some of the resorts and don't have a car (and don't want to pay for a cab), you can take the POR bus to MK and get the monorail to CR, Poly, or GF.There is a boat to WL & GF from the MK too(don't remember if there was a boat to the Poly). To check out the Broadwalk resorts you can take the POR bus to DHS and walk or take the boat. Then you can head back the way you came or grab a bus to DTD.
We had a great lunch in the GF Cafe last trip.

This. There is a separate standard category, which I think can be anywhere. But with a garden view, I would expect no parking lot view. Have fun!!!

Thanks so much for the replies! I hadn't heard about a jazz musician at POF. Definitely want to check that out. Nice to know our room won't overlook a parking lot, particularly since we'll actually be hanging out at the resort more than we normally do. Thanks!

I love walking around the resort at night with all the lights and the atmosphere is sop lovely.....a carriage ride is nice too.
dont miss the boat to dtd and you can also stop at POFQ, have a drink at the bar perhaps the jazz player will be there? There should be a schedule somewhere...you can walk from pofq to por on a lighted path, done it many times (like when the por bus at mk is SO slow...and we jump on pofq instead )
anyhow, the pools ..both quiet and main are nice....perhaps a jump in the hot tub?...the foodcourt is good the restaurant is good but not great.....dtd boat ride is the best, especially at night IMHO....its our home away from home,,,enjoy!!!
