So, the book we use in english is 'Discovering Popular Culture', and it's kind of the backbone of the course. Anyway, first our first essay, we're supposed to pick some kind of pop culture thing, and write about how it has affected our life in some way.

I thought it sounded kind of interesting. You can pick anything. From facebook to classic film to hardrock to romance novels, whatever. What would you pick? Something that has affected your life?

The Wizard Of Oz.

its the perfect movie to write about. its filled with icons.

The DIS?
Probably Star Wars or Harry Potter. Most likely Harry Potter. It was my childhood.
Maybe even Rugrats.

Broadway musicals, for sure.

Wicked, Phantom, Rent, Spring Awakening, just to name a few.

She said we could talk about social networking, maybe I could talk about the DIS and facebook? Lol, those are the only 'social networking' sites I go on.

I'm thinking I might do Disney, actually. I'll probably sound like an absolute, sentimental dork, but it is popculture and it has affected my life a lot.

Or maybe the Beatles. Or movies.

I have so many choices.

that's tough! there's so much in pop culture that has shaped my life.
Disney in a big way!!!

I'd say film as well, I get SO wrapped up in movies and honestly, this will probably sound totally weird, but sometimes I live in this dream-like state where I imagine my life is like a movie (/being filmed). (i'm not a psychopath lol--it's hard to explain!!) So film has really shaped my life because I'm thinking about it all the time. Not any specific movie, but just the concept of film, of filming a movie, the process and all that.
For me when I watch a movie I think about the behind the scenes stuff almost more than the movie itself, like I remember watching HSM 3 and just thinking about them rehearsing their dance numbers or in the recording studios doing voice overs.

I don't know if you think the same way as I do, but I might write about something like that if I had that assignment. Like the 'magic of the movies' or something.

sorry if i make no sense, i'm exhausted and had a huge fiasco with my keyboard today.

also why does it seem like whenever you ask for advice on assignments they are literally the mst awesome assignments ever!! lol youre so lucky dude

Because I don't care to share the boring assignments with you. ;)

But I really like this class, since it's kind of half english and half the study of popular culture.

i'm the same way. in my head, i'm a movie star. ;)

I honestly have no idea. One part of me says I'd want to do an older person from a different decade who made an impact, big or small. Like, Veronica Lake and her "1940s working women" hair-do. Another part of me says to do something like a great modern band with an awesome inspiration message in their songs.

I really have no idea. :( I hope your assignment goes well Jenny!

i agree with caitlin, you get the coolest assignments!

anyway, i would probably choose disney, music (in general not a certain band), or the media.

disney: good memories
music: has helped me through alot of rough times
the media: has caused self-esteem issues
