Okay. Please don't hate me, but ..... how does this POP frig swap work?
I will be staying at POP this year, and I am planning to rent a frig. However, if there is a cheaper route, I'm in. Can someone direct me to the info about how the frig swap works?
You can check out my FAQ on page 50, top post. Basically a bunch of us got together and purchased a fridge and shared the cost. Once the fridge was paid for by the original participants, many of the swaps have continued, at no cost, to futher participants.
The original members of my group pitched in $10/each. This swap started forming in August (I think) of 2006. I was the first swapper for 9/9/06 to 9/19/06. Everyone in the swap makes their own arrangements to pick up, and then, hand off the fridge (and now toaster and coffee pot) to the next swapper. Amazingly, this swap has now been going on for 18 months.
It's just a little way to save some money, to spend on more Disney things!Also, some people who stay at the values purchase a fridge anyway. If they are staying for a week, or longer, it's cheaper than using the one at the resorts. So, by passing on the fridge, it leaves less unclaimed fridges for the resort to deal with, or dispose of.
There are other swaps, besides fridges, at some resorts. Strollers, room decorations, coffeepots, etc. So, that's where this idea started last year.

P.S. If you know your dates for sure, you'll want to check out all the fridge swaps you can find to see if you dates are available. The more popular time frames go quickly. Good luck.
Unfortunately, it looks like my dates are already taken (9/2 - 9/8). It's really cool though that you guys have helped so many this way!

) Anyway, long story short, the CM told me they no longer hold them at L&F anymore. 
They are all kept at Luggage Services. She said she's been told they've even kept them as long as 3 months! This is contrary to what L&F told me last Sept. but seems like they've made a change. This just further verifies, to me, that if POP can't locate your fridge, they'll give you one that's been sitting, unclaimed. (Which is why getting a claim check is important-without one, you might not get anything)
