pop warner

We were at AS Music and it was horrible ! The bus rides were unbearable. The food courts were a zoo. The resort was turned into a dump !! I had never seen a Disney Resort looking so filthy - and it was not for a lack of trying on Disney's part. When the PW "people" were done with whatever they were using (cups, plates, beer bottles, cigarette butts) they just left it wherever they happen to be....usually around the pool or on the figurines around the resort. It was totally pathetic ! We spoke to several families from CSR and both Port Orleans resorts that had similiar issues there as well. I would only consider going to WL/AKL or better or NOT AT ALL. The parks weren't too bad and it was easier to avoid them in the parks - but not when you have to wait in the bus lines with them. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money for a different resort or change your dates.

Your 3am wake up call: READY??? OK!!!!! We've got spirit yes we do, we've got spirit how bout you?!?!? :cheer2:
:scared1:

See the Pop Warner website popwarner.com . I'm surprised that the Disney Guide books don't warn much about Pop Warner (i.e. Unofficial Guide to Disneyworld).

:scared: So it looks like I picked a great weekend to check out the Family Suites to avoid the weekend DVC points.

When does the swarm typically arrive in force?

I have an idea. Let's get Pop Warner to hold their Super Bowl in Brazil, say, during the month of July? Just sayin'

DH and I ran into them two years in a row at POR :scared1: The worst part was the food court, which was packed with cheerleaders and their "chaparones" and parents every morning and at various other times. The cheering got to be a bit much at times but fortunately we were not kept awake at all by them. POR is very spread out, which is advantage when Pop Warner is there!!

YES !

Yes, you should.

I can't really fault the kids for acting like obnoxious, screaming idiots at 7 in the morning, but the fact that their 'chaperone's' not only condone it, but actually encourage the behavior is something that redefined the words 'selfish' and 'self-centered' to me.

It's human behavior at it's worst.

You've been warned.
Well said!! And I agree, I couldn't really fault the kids (I remember being a teen once upon a time) but it IRKED me to NO end how it was encouraged by the adult chaperones!! And in the words of Dodie, I would say that during cheer competition was our only less than stellar time at WDW. I was just ready to go with the feeling we were being pushed out. You get this overall feeling that the cheer squads "own" the parks! They're loud and pushy (literally bumping into you, pushing ahead). The busses are crowded and loud. :sad2: The first two weeks *used* to be the time to go to WDW but not so anymore it seems.

If you want to be surrounded by a bunch of screaming children and the parents, most of whom will ignore the fact the child is screaming and running around the place like a lunatic, then keep your ressie. Otherwise, get while the getting is good and relocate. Yes, I have children, no you couldn't pay me to stay in that place during Pop Warner again, I'd rather pitch a tent at the campground...it IS that bad.:scared1:  :sad2:

I've stayed at BWV during that time and it wasn't a big deal. Any deluxe you're pretty safe.

Our worst experience at POR with Pop Warner was with the cheerleaders practicing everywhere around the mansions, not so much around AB. Then the cheering on the boats, etc. got to be a bit more obnoxious. Food court was a bit rough with them no matter what time you went.:rolleyes1

just booked allstars sports and later learned pop warner will be at disney during this time. Should I be worried?

My husband and I first learned of Pop Warner in 1995 when we arrived at the All Star Sports for our honeymoon. We had a room by the surfboard pool. The kids were all over, but the worst was the eating area. We went back for our 10th anniversary, knowing about Pop Warner, but wanted to go back for sentiment. Again, kids were all over and up late. The eatery was always crowded, especially at breakfast (which is when we really utilized eating at the resort). We weren't at the resort too much, but they were definitely a presence that you couldn't overlook when we were there. Dec 06 we were in the WL with our children during the same time of Pop Warner. We didn't even know that Pop Warner was there other than a few run-ins while we were in the parks. WL was quiet and a very nice change from what we have experienced with the Pop Warner crowd at the All Star Sports. WDW is gorgeous to experience the beginning of Dec and certainly should be experience by all at least once. If at all possible, however, avoid the value resorts because of Pop Warner! :santa:

Quick question - how early does pop warner start affecting the resorts? If the official dates are 12/2-12/9, do they generally start to check in the Fri. and Sat. before (say 11/30 and 12/1?)

We were thinking of staying at POR 11/28-12/2 and then switching to a deluxe on 12/2. Thanks for any answers/info.

Disney has the Pop Warner group listed from Dec 1st to the 8th, 2007. By the looks of the Pop Warner schedule, the football games start on the 2nd at 9am and the cheerleading starts on the 3rd at 9am. Both conclude on the 8the of December. It also appears that the Pop Warner group is taking over the Studios on Dec 5th for a special party from 8pm to Midnight. The Disney.com calendar says that The Studios will close at 7pm that night ... just make note.

Also noted in the Pop Warner info is that their hotels are the All Star Sports & Music and the Port Orleans French & Riverside. Maybe just avoid those hotels if you want something a bit cheaper for the first few nights before moving to a Deluxe resort.

The invasion of the Pop Warner group will probably begin on the 1st of Dec. :scared1:

How is CBR? That's where we'll be. Is there usually ALOT of overflow, if any? thanks

You should have no problems at the CBR. The craziness is usually contained in the hotels that are being offered to the Pop Warner people in their packages. This year it is the All Star Sports/Music and the Port Orleans. You will notice them in the parks throughout the week, but nothing too bad. We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge last year and didn't even know they were around except for a few cheerleaders bouncing around the parks at times. This year we are in Saratoga and expect to have the same experience as last year. Enjoy the Christmas decorations .... I know we will be!

Do most of them ususally leave on the 8th? My trip is Dec 8th-16th. I can handle them for one day, but any more than that I may need to consider changing resorts.

OT: I remember years ago when my sons were teenagers, I used to swear aliens kidnapped my little angels the day they turned 13 y/o, then returned them when they turned 18 y/o. The years between 13 y/o and 18 y/o their bodies were inhabited by the aliens. They were good kids, but just seemed to lose all good sense for awhile and especially when they were with a group. I now have a grandaughter who will soon be a teenager and just laugh when my son says he doesn't understand what's gotten into her lately:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: . Payback is sooo much fun!!!

Your signature indicates you are staying WL. We stayed there during Pop Warner a few years back and we would have never known they were there unless someone told us (which they did - before we went and I really freaked). They are nowhere near the WL and didn't seem to impact the parks at all. We saw a few cheerleaders in AK one afternoon, but that was it.

I have heard it can be a nightmare :scared1: at the resorts they are staying at.

Ahh...What a reilef! We are going Dec 1-5 and i was worried when I heard about Pop Warner, but was stuck with those dates as our airfare is non-refundable. WE were at the Poly the same week in '05, but Pop warner was the week after apparently. I'm glad to hear that you don't notice them much at WL

Let's see, kids, screaming, shouting at DISNEY?? At a VALUE?!?! NO WAY!! I dont believe it!! And this only happens during pop warner?? :lmao:

This was our exact experience. Very well said.
I honestly don't know why Disney doesn't just block an entire resort for these kids. I can't imagine that they don't have LOTS of complaints from other miserable guests every single time.

That I agree on, but I wonder if they leave some rooms more for 'traveling family' of pop warner kids and just dont let folks know that book at that point..

Sounds like about any place I go anymore. Walmart, restaurants, shopping malls, banks..

We are checking in on 12/9 at POR. I had no idea it was being offered as a Pop Warner hotel. Wonder if most of them will still be there vacationing after the competitions are over on the 8th?:confused3
