Does anyone know where I can find the dates for the Pop Warner & Cheerleading
events for 2006, we are planning a December trip, and would like to avoid being there at that time. Someone on another thread gave me the dates of Dec. 3-9, but wasn't 100% sure of it.

Here are just a few competitions being held in Orlando this year.
Jan. 13-16 2006 College Cheer and Dance
Feb. 3-6 2006 National Dance
Feb. 10-13 2006 National High School Cheerleader
March 10-13 2006 National All Star

Seaworld is holding a competition Jan 27-28th
Nationals at the Swan and Dolphin hotel March 3,4,5th
Contest of Champions Feb 25 and 26 this is in the sports area in Disney.
American open is not on Disney property it is at the orange county
March 11 at the silver spurs arena
convention center March 24-26
Universal studios is having a National competition March 24-26
Spirit cheer has one at td watehouse Feb 25th
Jan 22 Sunshine Open National championships
Jan 28 at the Arabian Nights
March 16-19 Disneys wide world of sports international cheer and Dance comp
March 17-19 Us open cheer and dance championships

Here is the offical site for Pop Warner: http://www.popwarner.com/. Here are some other things you should know that I learned from the DIS and my neighbor who always goes to WDW at this time:
1. It has always been the first full week of Dec - this is there "super bowl" week
2. They are usually booked in Value resorts - POP being the closest to Wide World Sports center, WDW tends to "suggest" this value resort. Overflow goes to the other value (Music, Sports, Movies) then usually goes to CBR or POR
3. Most of the complaints are about the Cheerleaders being obnoxious 24/7
4. The ratio of chaperones/kids is usually 1/8
5. Overall the kids are well behaved, however, there are alot of them

Read around in the threads. I was booked for POP, and then hear about this so I switched to CSR.

Good luck and enjoy....

My chiropractor's dd is in a gymnastics competition in January '06. Don't know the exact dates though. They are staying at CBR.

All-Star Sports/Music/Movies and ONE Moderate (EITHER POR OR CBR) were offered to Pop Warner participants when we attended. Although last season more divisions were added therefore many more families attended Nationals in 12/04. That's when they put the overflow into POP.
3. Most of the complaints are about the Cheerleaders being obnoxious 24/7 I won't even go there!! :cheer2:
4. The ratio of chaperones/kids is usually 1/8 INCORRECT!! Cannot speak for every participating town, but our girls have ALWAYS traveled with their own families. The only time the coaches were responsible for them was during competition, which is one day while at Wide World of Sports! After competition, they were released to their parents.
5. Overall the kids are well behaved, however, there are alot of them

we were there for the 1st of december last year, being our first december trip. I had heard of the pop warner thing and was kinda concerned,we were staying at pop. We never once had a problem with any of the kids and didnt even notice them that much except for the girls had "fancy hair", only really noticed them at nite. Never loud that we noticed and we had a 9 month old with us. Well behaved kids.

Where did you find this info ??

you can go to the different cheer company websites and find them. :)
My DD is an allstar cheerleader and I sometimes help the coach finding competitions and I found these while looking. and the first few I found on this site.:)

disagree with your post, I am sure alot of kids do travel with their parents but the point is there are huge amounts of kids traveling in small groups. Ive been there and have seen it on many occasions. In my opinion they do not cause any problems, they are just kids having a great time at a great place. They can however cause lines to slow down a bit

but I dont want people to be misled, there are small groups and lots of them , so if it bothers you plan ahead-dont go and think all the kids will just be walking around with their familes

I second sjdisneywedding

Most kids during these times are well-behaved, however, there are A LOT of them and the do make a lot of noise because they are kids and are excited for WDW and competition. Not a bad thing most of the time, it just IS what it is and if you are spending money for a vacation at this time, it's advised to be prepared so you don't take it the wrong way when you arrive or plan your resort stay accordingly. As a teacher and chaperone of many various school trips with middle school aged kiddos, there is going to be a 24/7 element to their energy that is a fact of adolescent life! Even traveling with honors students -cream of the crop- although their behavior was A++++, they talk and move non-stop no matter how tired they are. By no stretch a negative comment, just a fair warning for those traveling during big competitions to be ready for.

Also Cheerleading Worlds April 23-24 at MilkHouse.

For March 9-14, hotels being offered are All Stars and Carribbean Beach.

I'm an All Star Coach, and my teams' qualifier is this weekend (cross your fingers for us!). Based on how hard my kids have been working just for the opportunity to compete at nationals, I won't even touch the "cheerleaders are obnoxious" stuff. Let's just say the same goes for any large group of excited kids, at Disney or anywhere else.

I agree with what you wrote!! And good luck to your team hopw they qualify!!! Keep us posted!!! :cheer2:

thanks for the clairifications. I was quoting other sources. I personally have never been down at this time, but based on all the bad posts(earlier this year), I did so research and changed my travel plans. WDW does not give out any "offical" info on Pop Warner, so did not even know what it was. If you are travelling during this time be aware.

I don't know how most teams handle it, but my nephew is close to making it to the superbowl. His team has told the families that at least one parent needs to go. The coaches are not going to be responsible for the kids. This is tough to plan on such short notice. We were all supposed to go to Disney in January, but can't afford two trips in two months. Now my entire family is trying to see if we can change dates to go to the superbowl. This is killing me because I am the only one who can't take time off work in December!!! We won't even know if they make it until a week before, 2 games to go. But if he does, he will have family with him as is required. My dillemma...root for his team but if he wins I lose my vacation... Or hope he loses and we all go in January. I'm torn! :(

Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone in this. My DD's cheer team had their 2nd of 3 cheer competitions and did not make it out of that round. We are supposed to all be going to Denver Colorado that same time for a figure skating national championship and I was torn over which child I'd be able to see if DD's team made it to Disney. I did the only thing that I could and took it one competition at a time. I know what you're going through though and whatever happens, I hope it all works out.

I guess I had it easy. It must be very hard to choose which child to follow. Since I really can't effect the outcome I'll just see what happens. He still has to win 2 games. If he wins, then my wife and her family will probably end up at Disney without me. I guess I have to look at it from the "glass is half full" point of view. If he loses, we all go to Disney in January and stay at the Contemporary. If he loses, I spend a week home alone without the in-laws ;) And honestly I think they'd be happy spending the week without me.

The reason I actually asked about the two events isn't whether the kid's caused trouble, believe me, this past Oct. we saw many outta control kid's. My concern is whether or not the crowds in the parks increases significantly due to so many kid's being there all at once. We just wanted to see Disney decorated for Christmas, but can't go any other time than the first week of December. Thanks for all the info.

We were at Disney the first week of December 2004 and it was great. I have never seen Epcot so quiet and even the MK was very manageable. We did some cheer and football families, but never witnessed any big crowds of them. You just might want to be aware that they closed the MGM early one of the nights to accomodate a Pop Warner party. I'm pretty sure it was the Friday night. Great weather and low crowds.

Well,

My nephew just won the state championship. So he has 1 more game to win before going to Disney for the Superbowl. My family has found a way to pay for everyone to go to the superbowl and still take our trip in January. Of course, I still can't time off work in December so I will have to stay home for a week without the wife or kids :(

GO SHREWSBURY COLONIALS!!!!!!! ;)
