Pop=Walmart, you get what you pay for

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just returned from trip 2/3-2/9. Stayed at Pop and wouldn't do it again. Now, I must admit, we had toddlers which ups the difficulty but, nothing was convenient about the pop for us. Rooms were fine, service was fine. The problems were the amount of people. Lines, lines, lines...... Before you say that is just Disney, we visited other Resorts: BC, WL, CONT. none were having the same problems. Your walk to the bus line will be the longest at every park. Your wait will also be longer. Then the scooters..........

Handicap vs. Lazy you decide for yourself. Please wait to see for yourself before you judge the comment. Handicapped individuals deserve all the special treatment they get, lazy people do not. I found it bothersome that a
person on a scooter would drive to the front of the line and take about ten people travel with them all the way to the front. First of all, why cant they wait in line and get the special treatment when it is their turn? Why do all of their party go to the front with them? And them see over half of them get off the scooter and walk on the bus pretty normally. Granted I had been carrying my daughters for about a half hour at least by this point but I still think I could see things pretty rationally.

Just look at the turnstiles, deeper rows than any other. Look at the lines when parks are closing at night. They are the worst. Food court was the same way. Much like a college cafe at lunch time. Everyone for themselves. Someone used the word vultures, kind of fitting. If you children or you can fend for themselves, this might not bother you that much. But don't plan on going anywhere in a hurry.

Smoking areas are also located just outside the doors so you will walk by it everytime if you are in the 50s or 60s building. That is a little unnecessary. Or located on a walking path to the rooms. Get them out of the way. I don't want to have to smell someone's smoke.

The Walmart comment: You typically get what you pay for... Some love Walmart, they will probably love the pop. Good for somethings not good for everything....I realize now that I didn't pay for convenience. With toddlers the convenience is worth more than what i paid.

you already posted this on the podcast board. I replied there. I would ask for that thread on the podcast board to be closed or mergered here.

I agree with your comment about Pop. All of the value hotels are like that. I was greatly disappointed with my value hotel stays. I stay at Disney for the service and special feeling and they just do not offer that. That being said, if you go into it thinking that they are Motel 6 with Disney icons-they are not bad.
However, I cannot comment on the handicap situation because, fortunately, I have never been in that situation.

there are 2,880 rooms in a much smaller area than the Polyn.

so there is a possible of over 10,000 guests at this resort. Sorry I though was telling everyone this could happen.

with a handicapped person Disney has always included their entire group.

Mother would scream loud enough to be heard at the MK from Pop - if she had ever been separated from me. think about it. you are handicapped (and some of them have handicapped that don't show) and suddenly some of your party is not there. no - that doesn't work.

disney decided long ago if you ask for a wheelchair or paid for scooter you needed it.

Pop is probably the flatness of the WDW resorts and definitely attracts more wheelchairs and scotters than the other resorts. (well OKW does too - but that is because some of the DVC members are just getting older)

and yes it takes time to puts these scotters or wheelchairs on the bus - while you wait.

that say - you did get to each park right. You also returned each night to the resort - right?

besides the most any bus can handle of scooter or wheelchairs is two - it is not like the bus is filled with scooters and have to wait for the next one.

wow...I am a little scared now about my upcoming stay at POP. However that being said. I am basically just going to be sleeping there. I wanted to stay on Disney because of the Magical Express Service. I don't drive so I figured it would be cheaper that taking cabs and city buses everywhere. I am a smoker so I can't comment on that issue. I am just looking to have a great time. As long as the bed is clean and the water runs in the shower I will be happy lol. I am basically going for baseball and Disney........
Maybe I will have happier things to report lol

I question peoples' motives! I have never been to disney and regardless of what resort that I have stayed at without doing some research. If the original poster would of did their homework they would of found out that pop century is more geared towards families with children who probably don't want to spend alot of money on their hotel costs. The value resorts are always hustling and bustling with people and lots of activity. You should of known this going into your trip. This time of year is extremely busy especialy around president's day- again if you would of did your homework you would of know this. I just came back from a stay at the Coronado Springs Resorts and found out that this resort wasn't for me. Did I bad mouth it? NO WAY!! My father (may he rest in peace) always said "If you don't have something nice to say then don't say anything!".

As far as the Wal Mart comment, where did that come from? You might be surprised to find pop century "vacationers" who shop at Macy's or Bloomingdales, etc. Don't judge a book by its cover.

and that's all it is - my opinion.

that being said, I have never stayed at Pop. for that matte, I actually haven't even been there since our first trip is coming in July.

We are staying at Pop. Would I like to stay at the WL? Of course. Unfortunately, with four kids, the quote for WL was $8,800 simply for lodging.
So...we got two rooms at ASSR & Pop
The Walmart comment: You typically get what you pay for... Some love Walmart, they will probably love the pop. Good for somethings not good for everything....I realize now that I didn't pay for convenience. With toddlers the convenience is worth more than what i paid.
Probably one of the rudest things I've read on this board in a while. What I took from this statement and your title is that the only people who will enjoy Pop are those who shop at Walmart. Gotta tell ya, lots of different types of people shop at walmart. It's almost as if you are rating people who shop at walmart as 2nd class citizens or something of the sort.

I don't particualrly enjoy Walmart, but I do go there. I am positive my children will have a blast at both Pop & ASSR. I've done my research and know what to expect. I certainly do not expect it to be quite. I also know that if we are going to attempt eating at the FC, we'll try to work in in at off hours.

The walmart comment is stating that pop is good for somethings not everything. You get what you pay for. Also, my opinion is not bashing. I am saying, "it is not for me" and I won't go back. Not everything is great and I have the right to say so.

Sounds like a very fair analysis. We stayed at ASM for one night and that was enough for us. I think we would stay offiste before going back to the values. The thing that bothers me the most about them is that they aren't really a value. Remember when they first opened. The big advertising was $59 and $69 a night. That was a value. When I looked at prices there recently it was going to be $129 a night. Not a value in my opinion for what you get.

Sheesh, a big reason why I can afford to stay club level at the GF is because I shop at Walmart, LOL

I wasn't offended by the OP's comments, but I will have to agree with the poster who said that the OP should have done his homework about the values and the busy times of years to visit the World. I think its funny because I just got done reading another post here on someones fantastic visit to Pop......

I have to say, we just returned from POP...2/11-2/17, we absolutely enjoyed every minute of it, this is our 5th time staying there, we are also DVC members, so we have stayed at upper resorts as well. Also, we are people who utalize the smoking section, and to be quite honest, we deserve a place to enjoy as well. It is not our fault that they place the smoking areas where they do, that is not reason to fault someone for having a smoke, if it is that bothersome, than walk the opposite way so not to breathe in other peoples smoke. There are lines in the foodcourt, etc., but you get that everywhere, especially when this past week happened to be the nascar, and also a soccer tornament, so it was a little more crowded that normal.

You are entitled to your opinion, everyone is. But it certainly sounds like you were bashing the pop century resort. I have stayed at AS Sports several times and absolutely love it. Do I know what I get beforehand- YES!! I expect lots of people and actually the hustle and bustle when I stay elsewhere. I shop at Wal Mart and my next stay will be at the Poly!! I love Wal Mart!!

A reply to doing my research, I did plenty, and most were from the disboards. My intention to post was that I wish someone would have had comments like mine before I went. I probably would have changed. It seems that most only post the great things. Thanks

It definitely isn't cheap. For two rooms we will be paying $291.59/night. That being said, it still is a heck of a lot cheaper than the $700/night WL would cost (for 2 rooms). Now, If I had a code, I certainly would be upgrading, but, alas, we are going at 4th of July so the chances of that are pretty much slim to none:sad2:

ITA. I think I might start shopping more at Wally World and perhaps my next trip can be at Poly, too:) :)

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. It's certainly beneficial to others to post about your stay. It just could have been done without a title such as Pop =Walmart.

As far as the scooters go and "able-bodied/lazy" people using them. Last year I considered myself to have an "invisible" disability. I had just completed 6 months of chemo and the trip was my celebration. I however did not have the stamina to walk all of the parks. So I rented a scooter and used it I would say 75% of my time for my 10 day trip. So I would drive my scooter on the bus, hop off while the drive secured it and sat in a seat. Did I look like I had a problem? No. Did I have a problem, yes. The scooter let me throughly enjoy my celebration trip. And if anyone saw me pushing the scooter up the incline at AKL after I ran out the battery my first day, they might have been saying somethings about me too. But I knew I needed it. And learned my lesson about paying attention to the power indicator. ;)
