Hi all,

I've just started looking provisionally at june 2009 for my 40th birthday. First Choice (who we have a £600 deposit on a hol this year that I'll prob transfer to next year) only have dates up to april 2009 so far, but based on this year's prices POP works out cheaper than Staybridge suites LBV.

Anyone had any experience of either with pros and cons?? Id fancied the marriott village but first choice don't appear to have them listed. So any other ideas would be gladly received.

I want to do 2 nights at the contemporary for my actual birthday, so any thoughts on that too?

Cheers,

Lynn

Staybridge suites looks very good, great reviews on Tripadvisor. Personally I would go there but I am not a fan of Disney's value resorts.

We just stayed at Marriott village Thurs & Fri for 2nd time (and going back for Xmas) its OK but a nightmare to get in and out of. Probably OK out of season but we go Easter, August and Xmas, traffic is horrendous with the outlet just up the road.

Fantastic time, Disney cruises are as good as ever. Windsor Hills Condo was good for the space but a little further out than we like, we have been spoiled staying around LBV area, so close to everything. Pirates and Princess night was good again, walk on everything, so good to do a park with no lines at all (longest was Small World about 10 people in front of us, 1 boat and they were gone)

I've stayed in Staybridge Suites for a couple of nights and was quite impressed with the value for money. We had a 2 bedroom suite and it had everything we needed plus it was a good price. The free breakfast was good too with hot items as well as regular buffet stuff - nice courtyard area with tables as well as inside dining room.

Like wayneg, I like LBV and am also not a great fan of the value resorts (have stayed in All Stars Music and Movies, but again only for a couple of nights each). Others on the these boards love them and they can be great for kids and also if you love having the Disney transport and the benefits of staying on site - extra hours etc.

Firstly I can't comment on Pop but I have used Staybridge twice ( once as the Summerfield suites) I realise that Pop is cheaper but to be honest the suites are more comparable to a Mod & in that case they are cheaper with a lot more room! To be honest if it hadn't been for the free dining at CBR we would be going back to Staybridge-the Kingsize bed is HUGE! Don't forget you are trying to compare 2 beds side by side with at least a seperate room (2 if you're thinking about a 2 bed) at least 2 tvs, fully fitted kitchen including cooker, diswasher & fridge......& the free breakfast is good plus free tea& coffee all day.Like others we love LBV (as you can see from our signature) & this will be the first time that we haven't stayed there.

Thanks guys, we want to do it reasonably cheaply so we can justify paying extra for the contemporary, but would still like fairly decent accommodation.

Also - is LBV central for IDrive/Seaworld and Disney?? First time we stayed on IDrive and it was great, easy for Universal and Seaworld but a trek to Disney. Second visit we stayed onsite which was ideal for Disney but again a trek to Universal!!

Wayneg - I hoped you'd reply as I thought of you when asking the question, I bow to your knowledge of accommodation!!

Cheers!

Lynn would it be an option to do Flydrive instead of package? would give you more options with accomodation and might cut the costs. I am not familiar with First Choice so dont know their options.

LBV is right on Disney's doorstep,I4 is a stones throw from the majority of the hotels meaning SW is 5 mins & US &IOA 15 mins max.If you are after something cheaper we have also stayed at the Springhill suites at the Marriot village & I would recommend it.Most disney accom is fairly basic, until deluxe, compared to some of the rates off-site,you definately pay a supplement to be immersed "in the magic".The majority of Tour Ops won't have their complete list in the early edition brochures, our last stay at Staybridge was thru' Virgin but it didn't appear in their brochure until later editions.

You'd think fly drives would be cheaper but they always seem to come out slightly more expensive than when you include accommodation!! Unfortunately we're stuck with first choice unless we lose our £600 deposit, and we have to book in advance so we can transfer deposit. We plan to sort our own car thru airline network though, cheaper fully insured than first choice insurance alone.

I might give first choice a call to see if they can quote me for marriott village even though its not listed on their site.

We didn't get to visit LBV on our previous trips, so thanks for the info.

I know its not an option you would enjoy doing but also look at losing your deposit and booking a flight only, June should be cheap for Virgin, even booking now so close flights this June are only £426, booking further out could be cheaper. I dont know what FC prices are like, never used them.
We did this a few years ago and actually saved money by losing the deposit of £125pp
Try USrentacar also for car, we just used them past 2 weeks after years of using Airnet, saved £40 on 2 week rental and you only pay £50 deposit not all upfront like Airnet.

So many options for you, good luck.

Pricing for holidays sometimes just dont make sense, take our Xmas 08 trip for eg. Paid £580 for flight and hotel, flydrive(without adding car fees) £700 or flight only £918 (just looked again still same, crazy)
