POP - visually unappealing to me

I find POP loud, garish and downright ugly. But I would not be opposed to staying there at least once, particularly if it's going to be a theme park commando-ing trip.

We are staying at the POP for the first time in April 08. I too was a bit put off by the pictures. I sure hope it is better in person! Someone mentioned that you could see illuminations from the Pop. Where is the best location for viewing the fireworks?

We LOVE Pop! I enjoy being overstimulated.

Can a resort really be "overstimulating"? I never thought of Pop in this manner before.

I agree with you. I was originally going to do a split stay; 3 nights at POP and 3 at the FW Cabins. But everytime I looked at a photo of the resort I just wanted to...well you get the picture, lol. It did like ASMusic though. It was the most "adult like" IMO all of the values. I actually found a great price too, 59 a night. Even though its just a place to sleep, to me, its more than that. It's kind of your house for a week. Well anyway, I cancelled POP and made FW the full 6 nights.

The reason why Our family have not stay at any of the Values is because
the Icons give me a headache whenever I look at the pictures, may be
different in person.

The value resorts remind me of a Giant Disney Store you can stay at.
I would love the money I would save by staying there but not sure if
I would have a headache my Whole trip?

Who knows if I look at the pictures long enough and build up
tollerance, we may stay at POP one day?
I would then have to convence my DH who loves a quiet relaxing
places to come to after the Parks that this would be a good idea.
I don't think he would go for it, but who knows???:confused3

I can see how one might feel that way about Pop. It definitely has an in your face type theme! Of course I love that. Still, a resort can't be all things to all people. For instance, I looked at the slide shows on allearsnet years ago and decided that Grand Floridian isn't appealing to me at all. I think its pretty on the outside and the lobby is nice. But the rooms made me think I was looking at something my mom decorated, all lacey and fussy. Not my style at all. My brother looked at the same pics and said the same thing. Sometimes something just strikes a chord with you, one way or the other.

We will be at Pop this coming September. Our only other WDW trip we stayed at Saratoga Springs. I know this Pop will be the complete opposite, SSR is quiet and laid back, and has several bus stops! When we were planning our return, I looked at all four value resorts and Pop was our first choice, followed by AS Movies. I hope we made the right choice! We did upgrade to a preferred (for mobility reasons) room. We chose Pop (value) because we simply could not afford to stay in SSR and we wanted to return! I have to say it looks very cute and very colorful!:goodvibes I like the theming! Does anyone know... is there a preferred section that is better than others? If so, why? Thanks!

You can see IllumiNations from the backside of the 50's section...the side that is facing the parking lot and entrance roadway, with the unfinished section and the lake on your left. But, you do have to head up to the upper levels, 3/4. I don't recommend doing this as a way to see IllumiNations. It's okay if you've seen it before and just want to catch a few of those higher up fireworks, but you do lose quite a lot being so far away. When we were there several years ago, my dd and I were at the end of the hallway, the closest room to the bowling pin stairway at the very end of the bldg. I think we were the closest room to the entrance road. But, we just left our room and turned left and watched the fireworks from there. One night, we were really tired so headed back to the room pretty early. But when it was time for IllumiNations, we headed up to the 4th floor (we were on 3) in our pj's, and watched from there. There was a dad watching with his dd. They went to leave at one point and I told him it wasn't over yet. He started to argue with me, telling me that they had just done the final big fireworks....ah, no, they hadn't I told him. At that point, the finale started. He was so grateful that he hadn't left and thanked me over and over. So.....if you are watching and think it's all over, hang around for a few more minutes. It's the time they are doing a bunch of ground level stuff that you can't see from that distance. The big finale will be coming very shortly.
But, again...it's not a good replacement for actually seeing it at Epcot.
