Pop Up Trailer Experts Needed! How do you back up your tent trailer?

Hi all! We just bought a 2003 Jayco 10X tent trailer (pop-up) and we LOVE IT!

HOWEVER! DH is having a hard time backing it up. What's the trick? Thanks! Sandra

Backing in a Pop-Up Trailer should'nt be to tough for you.

But, you do have to remember that you don't really have to turn your wheel that much to straighten the trailer up. I would recommend practicing in your drive-way a few times to get a feel of it. If you turn your wheel to much you will end up on an angle.

What my family and I use yo do when we had our pop up was just push it in by hand. We had a small flagstaff pop-up at the time. We would hook up a a third wheel under the hitch where the pipe comes done.

We would then just push it where we wanted it. We now have a 26ft dutchman and at times we wish we had the pop-up because we could drive faster when we were towing, but you just can't set it up as fast.

You really should not have any problems, it's like walking and chewing gum at the same time.

The BIG trick is...
- put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel and then move your hand the direction you want the trailer to go. It is the easiest way that I have found.
- Set aside some time to practice and go to an empty parking lot and keep working at it.
- Agree upon hand signals for directions between the spotter and the driver as well so there is less confusion.
- Some people use FRS two way radios instead of shouting.
