Pop up owners, a waterproofing question.

We just picked up a used pop up. Its real nice and twice the size of our last one and half the age!
We gave the canvas inside and out a good cleaning and so now I want to rewaterproof it. Has anyone done theirs? Did you use scotchguard or 303 or something else? Did you do the inside and outside? I'm thinking I just need to do the inside bunk tops, the inside sides and then seal the seams better.
Thoughts???

We used Tarp, applied externally, Then we applied $6k for a new one

I use thompsons water seal....thats what my dealer recomd.......Been good soo far!No complaints!

I would think you would want to seal the outside of the fabric. You want the water to bead up and roll off. If you sealed the inside of the fabric, the water would soak in to the fabric and it would take much longer to dry out. (I may be wrong too, I have been before)

goodness, we have never done that to the bunk ends of our camper....however, now that i think of it, the "canvas" on our bunk ends is more of a plastic than a fabric. the can't soak in.

we do reinforce all the seams with caulking every year or two.

Scotchguard works fine as long as you do it in NUMEROUS, and I mean NUMEROUS light coats. Don't try to dump it all on at once. I would also recommend doing about 3 coats - letting it dry for at least 36 hours - cleaning with Windex - then 3 more coats. I wouldn't trust any less than 8 coats.
