possibly planning a spring break trip. how much is a taxi to and from the airport for 4 people? i think we'd want to stay at the swan/dolphin but if it's going to cost as much as a night at a value resort, we might just do that.

and then i guess the next question is if we are allowed to do that:
stay one night the day we arrive for DME to disney and then also one night before we leave so we can get DME back to the airport?

renting a car for the week we want to go is $600 without insurance, so i don't think we'll be doing that.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but DME does not to to or from the Swan or the Dolphin.

A cab to and from the airport would be about $60 each way.

DME does not service the Swan or Dolphin, a towncar would run about $100 plus tip round trip maybe $120 for an SUV to fit 4 adults comfortably plus luggage.

If you stay at the S/D they will transfer yuor bags to a WDW resort while you tour the parks on checkout/check in day, the WDW resorts will transfer to S/D as well.

If you choose a value resort for the night before and after your stay you will be eligible to use DME both ways.

This is how I'm understanding your question.

Stay 1 night at value resort and use DME to get to the value resort.
Move to S/D for the remainder of your trip.
Your last night, move to a value resort and use DME to get back to the airport the next day.

If this is what you mean then yes you can do this. What you have to figure out is (a) is it financially worthwhile (b) is the hassle worth any savings if it is financially worthwhile. I'd make sure to also compare the price of a car service to get you to your resort.

A car service will be around $100-$120 R/T. Mears (shared shuttle) would be $34 R/T per passenger ($136 total). You might save a few dollars if you rented a car from Alamo one way with a drop off at the Dolphin and reverse the process for your return. Makes sense if you want to do something offsite your first day. Grocery shopping. Outlet shopping.

The OP is asking about a possible trip next spring, not their upcoming trip to AKV. I think the OP is asking about staying at a value resort the first and last night. That gives you DME. JMO but not worth the hassle. Might make sense if you have a late flight and don't want to pay to stay at the S/D the first night, just looking for a place to sleep.

For all: Shoot to be back at your resort an hour before your Magical Express bus time back to the airport.

The preceding may break the camel's back regarding staying at a Disney's resort (e.g. Pop Century) for your first and last nights, thus producing a triple split stay with its attendant hassles packing up and transferring from one resort to another. All for the purpose of using Magical Express.

fair enough. i wasn't sure how much a taxi would be, but if it's about $120 round trip that's still less than ~$100 per night at pop. thanks for the info!
