POP refurbed rooms with Flat Screens! Update Page 13 **

Ok folks, We had yeahs and nays for the A/C being on motion sensor, so I decided to call the Pop Century myself and ask. I spoke to Rachel at the front desk, and she called over to engineering while I was on the line. She said the A/C is not motion sensored. She said it is controlled by the guest and you can control it between 68 and 76 degrees. She said if there is any problem with the A/C in a guest room to call engineering and they will come fix it. She also said that all rooms are the same. I do not recall having a problem with the a/c going off when we stayed there in April. I guess I'll find out in just 21 days.

The old thermostats with the power buttons were the ones you could override. They wouldn't go below a certain temp unless you did the override procedure and when nothing was moving in the room the AC would shut off.

If you don't have a power button then it's a normal thermostat and there's nothing to override. A lot of guests complained that the room never got cool enough and when they were out of the room and overnight it would get hot. A few years ago they started replacing the thermostats as guests complained. They're probably all gone now. The thermostat should no longer be a concern.

I was In the 60's building(#4) top floor and our room had not been refurb, but there was no sesor It stay at 68 the whole time. With the temps In the 90's, I needed every bit of the coolest temps:rotfl2:.

Oh man, we have booked this trip and travelling such a long way with three children from Australia. I would hate to have troubles with the A/C in the middle of the night. This makes me want to change resort ..........

We just stayed in a refirbed room and I LOVED the a/c system. I hardly heard it and it was very, very effective with 95+ temps. We did not have balloons and it did not get warm in the room during the day or the night. I would say it is better than the system at POLY and is certainly better than the clanging wall systems of the moderates.

I was really scared of staying at POP and the HVAC system. I had a quiet room (building 10 facing the trees near the end of the hall) and will never pay for a moderate again and saving the deluxe resorts for special trips.

Enjoy your trip!:goodvibes

As I stated earlier. I called the Pop yesterday and Rachel, at the front desk assured me that there are no motion sensors on the A/C. She said guests can adjust the temps between the range of 68 and 76 degrees. I keep my home at 78, because of my MOSTRO electric bills, and it'll be a pleasure. I'm SO looking forward to. I never had a problem at the All Star Music with the A/C and the A/C in the DVC resorts is like at home.

Congrats on your upcoming nuptials, maybe we will see you there! We will be the family with the 2 oldest kids fighting all the time!

It will be easy to spot me ill will be in disney hawaiian shirts with a fedora hat and camera!!

I just returned from a stay in the refurbed 1970s and can confirm this information.:)

We stayed in the 70's refurbished room the 3rd week of June and I must say it did feel warmer in the room when we came back from the park. Also, nights were not as cool as it was the year before. I am not sure what the problem was but there was a difference from last year.

Last October I used the directions posted here on the boards to overide my thermostat. When I checked out it was left in that condition. I was told it will reset in 7 days by a worker. My room was very cool all day by doing this. There are motion sensors to save energy ..... I just can't see Disney changing all of them to use more energy.

I guess if we have a problem I will just call the front desk and ask for the A/C to be fixed or move rooms? I have requested a refurb room so fingers crossed our A/C will be o.k.

I am wondering how you know if you're room has the motion sensor kind. :confused3 what does the motion sensor look like and where is it? Someone said you can put a balloon in front of it. But I'd need to know what to look for.

The front desk woman called down to engineering while I was on the phone and they told her they didn't have that kind anymore..... :confused3 I'm sure they probably do in some rooms.

Do we need to start a new AC motion sensor thread? :rolleyes1

This is/was the thread for the current Pop room renovations...from the folks who have checked with Pop Century, it appears most/all of the old motion sensor thermostats were replaced earlier and aren't related to the current renovations...?

We might!! :confused3

but if we want to talk about the new renovation... we can discuss whether we like the new bedspreads or what to do about the reduced storage space in the new dresser/entertainment center. Someone said Cubicals fit!!

Mindy5767, you're going in two weeks, huh? Looking forward to hearing if you get a renovated room, where it is, and what you think about the changes! I'm sure you'll keep an eye out for what buildings are being worked on, right? :)

Yep!! I'll make a full report...as soon as possible... unfortunately, one of the bigger disadvantages of the Pop or actually any non-DVC resort is I will be missing my free internet! DVC members get free internet when staying on our points at a DVC resort. Sigh!! I think its $10 day. I'm sure we will not be springing for the $80 for 8 days..(this is a squeezed in budget minded trip). however,.... I do know where the Panera is... and they have free internet. I am not sure where a Starbucks is nearby. I hope to have time to go over there and at least make a few posts to update folks. I've request a rehabbed room on the first floor in the 70's decade. I didn't specify building 10 though! :scared:

Be aware that when you call the number to pop (given at the grooy pop threads) you are NOT reaching the front desk, it is the call center...they "pretend" they are the front desk for whatever resort you are calling. And I have heard of others saying the CM called or walked into the food court , or out to the lobby, etc, to find something out...they usually don't, (because the ycan't, they are the call center, not at the resort. LOL)and more times than not, the info was given wrong. For instance, when Pop took out the frozen coke machines, someone called the front desk and ask about it, the CM said she hadn't heard about it, but said she would go over to the Food court and check.
She came back saying ,the frozen coke machine was still there...but another Diser who was there at that same day, came back to say no, it had been gone since before she arrived, so that CM was completely wrong.
I haven't been to Pop since March 2009, but I know for a fact that the AC then was on a sensor ,and it could not be overridden, unless you called maintenance...Which is who would know about the AC. Not sure what engineering is. :confused3 I also had a problem wit hthe lock of only 68 degrees,,as we like it cooler than that at night.

Then how do you get the ACTUAL number to the real front desk. The only resort that I have the ACTUAL front desk number for is Ft. Wilderness because it is my friend's workplace.

That I don't know. I just know that the numbers listed for most resorts go to the call center. I beleive the fax number is direct though.
