After an excruciating 4.5 year hiatus (my longest as an adult w/ control of my own vacation destiny), we are headed back to WDW!!!:banana:

We're staying at POP. I've never stayed here before, but it sounds like there are some ammenities that the All Stars don't have... So, I have questions: :listen:

  1. Is it worth a preferred room? :confused3 (50's buildings, right?) It seems like the 80's or 90's may be closer to the bus stops by cutting through the parking lot. What do you all think?
  2. Are the mini-fridges in here smaller than the moderate fridges? I'm wondering if we can get a 6 pack :cool2: :drinking1 in the fridge as well as some snacks?
  3. Do they have a deck party :dancer: & movie pool side nightly? What time do they start? (Just at the main pool, I guess, right?)
  4. How far is the walk over to the AoA resort? Would it be decent for my sometimes Grumpy  DH to walk? I was thinking we could do a meal in their food court just to be different & nosy. :magnify:
Thank you all!

I've done both preferred and non-preferred at my favorite POP resort. Look at this map and you'll see they are quite close to each other. http://www.disboards.com/threads/pop-century-what-buildings-are-preferred.1392924/
I requested the same building (70s) and got it both times as I like to be near transportation. The first time I paid for preferred and got the front of the building facing Classic Hall. The second stay I just paid for a standard room and got on the backside of the same building and I honestly felt no difference in walking distance to the bus stops. Don't think I'll pay for preferred anymore.

I've twice gone preferred, once not and I will not on my next trip. I don't find it too big, but I don't mind walking around a resort either. Yes, many people cut through the parking lots if they stay in the 80s/90s area. They do the movie beside the main pool, yes. I am guessing it usually starts around dusk, so it depends on the time of year. Here are a few pictures:

The walk to AoA is not long. In fact, sometimes I took the AoA bus back to Pop and walked from there. It was a lovely walk. Their food court is beautiful.

To be completely honest, I don't believe there are any amenities that Pop Century has that the All Star Resorts do not have. They show movies and have the pool/deck parties and things as well. The only difference is that the All Star Resorts sometimes share buses while Pop Century does not share with AoA. (Although I have heard of it happening once or twice.)

I've done preferred twice and standard once always in the 60's. loved all my rooms. From foodcourt to foodcourt the walk is only 10 minutes. Mini fridges are the same size as moderates. :goodvibes

Thank you both! That's good to know. Last time I stayed value was 2009 and I don't recall movies. Sounds like fun!

:yay:
