We are going the first part of August. I have a few ????:coffee: With teenagers that want to be close to the action, which building is the best to stay in? Can you request a certain building when you arrive? If you want to catch the fireworks, where is the best place to watch them in order to catch the POP bus back to the hotel? What about the food - is it pretty good at the POP and if you have suggestions on money saving tips, please send them on! I am open for any ideas! This is my first time - in case you didn't know! tee hee!:woohoo:

You can request s building that is very close to the main hall--these are called "preferred rooms" and you do pay extra for such. You may find in your case that it would be worth it. There are other buildings which are also close, but do not have the extra cost, but they are not AS close. A request made at check in or (better) faxed 4 days in advance may or may not be filled. You have no way of knowing unless you ARE willing to pay extra for the preferred location.
The food court is standard fare that your teenagers will love. The grilled flat breads are especially good. If you have an AP, you may want to consider the DDE as it will save you 20% off food court meals as well as at other sit downs.
With teens, definitely get the refillable mugs.
Each park has a bus stop specifically for each hotel, so you will watch the fireworks and then go to the Pop Century bus stop to catch the bus, along with 100's of other people.

as WDW resorts go - in acreage this is a small resort nothing is far away.

(unlike CBR, CSR or even my favorite POR, not to mention Polyn)

in rooms it is the biggest 2,880 rooms in a very small area.

Still love it!!!

there is not a place - that lets you see the fireworks and is close to the bus stop.

okay - main street close to the city hall - but now you and several thousand other people will be trying for it.....:rotfl:

at Epcot Illiuinations is around the lake in WS. which is as far from the bus stops as you can get. You can watch it along the pathway - but you are missing half of it.

you need to be close to watch the globe (one of my BIG problems with this show)

at Fantasica in Studios you need to be seated in the arena.

now at Pop itself you can see the higher fireworks from Epcot!

I would get a 50's room with a lake view. You will need the lake view traveling with teens.

That is one thing I really like about this resort. When we stay at CBR, we have an underlying worry that we will get stuck in one of the farthest buildings like Trinidad South or Barbados (in which case we'd change resorts before we'd stay there), but at Pop, we don't have to worry because nothing is really that far away, IMO.:woohoo:

Refillable mugs are the way to go if your teens drink soda.

Instead of trying to rush out of the parks as soon as the night time shows end grab an ice cream and watch everyone else try to leave.

Pop really isn't all the big so any room will be within a short distance to the action. We like the rooms facing the lake since it's quiet and peaceful while we are in our rooms. Just head to the main pool or the main building for action. One of the reasons I like Pop so much is there are always people around and plenty of action.

I know I didn't start this thread but just wanted to say thanks to everyone who takes the time to help folks out with these type of issues. Me and my family will be at POP the first week of Aug as well and these boards have been a life saver with all the tips about the resorts, dining, parks and so on. Makes planning much easier so a big thank you to all. By the way only 13 days till we get to go to Disney World.

WOO HOO!!!!!

I agree, I have had several questions, since this is our first trip. The Disneyboard has been a life saver! Only 13 days to our trip!

We have stayed at PoP twice now and really like it. In fact we have stayed in the same building and very close to the "action" both times. (Rooms 6313 and 6212).

As you can see in the photo that building 60 is close to Everything PoP, the bus stops, and the Popjet kiddie pool for the little ones. It is a walk to the parking lot, but we did not need to very often.
This is the view from the balcony in front of the room.

The bus service at this resort is great and our rooms were always clean. I have to admit that the last two visits have been nearly perfect, so no horror stories to tell. I believe that you will enjoy this resort.

Just wanted to jump in here with a quick question. We've stayed at POP 3 times now but have never had a lake view. My question is this-do all lake view rooms have a view of the fireworks? If not, which ones do?

I'm thinking that this year we'll request a room with a fireworks view, on the top floor. We always request (and get) ground floor, but this year I'd like to try something different.

TIA

We are staying at POP in December. Has anyone ever stayed at Christmas time? When buying things in the shop do they have disney christmas bags for stuff or do they have wrapping paper or do I need to bring some with me? One of our children still believes in the Santa thing. Any other POP hints would be great.

when we stayed at POP, we climbed to the top floor in one of the bowling pins, on the back of the resort facing the 50's parking lot. From there we could see both some of Illuminations and Wishes at the same time! This was in Feb. when "Wishes" was at 9:00. Very cool!

I don't know specifically about POP, but we stayed at PO-FQ over Christmas in 2005 and we never received any christmas bag with our purchases, just the regular bags they use all year long. If you want to wrap presents, I would suggest bringing paper with you - we just bought ours at Walmart, after we hit the sales at the outlets for presents.

Many of the rooms from the lake side will offer you a view of the high fireworks. If you can't see them from your room just take a walk to the stairwell towards the back and you should be able to see them.

We were all newbies at one point so it's our pleasure to help.

Were these preferred rooms? Trying to decide if it is worth getting a preferred room. I DON'T want to be poolside, but I don't want to be in the 80's or 90's either.:confused3

Pop Century is about 1,500 feet from the furthest corner of the 50s to the furthest corner of the 80s/90s (sorry, I can’t tell which buildings are which at that end). Most Guests would never be walking that far – unless you’re at one corner and the rest of your party is staying at the other end of the property. Most Guests wouldn't need to walk even half that distance to get to 'the good stuff' - e.g. a pool, Everything Pop, the bus stops... Also, while it’s far from optimal – you can see much of the fireworks from the bus area outside the Magic Kingdom.

Buildings 2 and 3 – but a couple of things to take into consideration: Do you actually plan/expect to be at the resort at the right time (i.e. 9 PM)?; and, since you’d likely have to be out on the walkway to see anything anyway, you can just go over to the ‘right’ building at the right time, take the elevator up to the top floor, and watch from there.

When we stayed here in 2005, we were in 6316, which faced Hourglass lake. It was a very quiet room with a nice view of the lake. WE did not make a request, just lucked out.
This past trip our TA requested preferred rooms and I did not catch it until too late. So I explained where we stayed on the previous trip and wanted to be near this area. Room 6212 is on the corner facing the Popjet pool, in other words around the corner and one floor down. The only difference is that we could hear the music outside during the day when taking an afternoon break. The music was always off at night. I much preferred the non-preferred room of 2005, but 6212 was still a good location.
This resort is beautiful at night
