Trying to decide between POR or Pop Century for just myself and DS5. I am not able to get a preferred room at POR, and I'm worried that I may get a room too far from buses/food court. We've never been to either resort, but have been to WL, GF and POFQ. I think DS would like Pop due to the theming, but having never stayed at a value, I'm not quite sure. Since it's just the two of us, though, I think we'd be fine as far as room size and food court.

Any opinions?

I would always pick a mod over a value but that's just me. Isn't there a chance you can be far from food and busses at Pop too?

Oh, I forgot to say I can get a preferred room at Pop. Also, there is almost an $800 difference.

I typically stay at the moderates, but I just came back from a preferred room at Pop. It really comes down to theme and atmosphere. As an adult, Pop was very spartan. It's corian counters, simple furniture, etc. There really is little in room as far as themeing. With that, you have a full food court there - and the walk to AoA is quite easy. If you know you won't be having that "magic" in the resort (and are ok with that), you will be just fine with Pop. And, given the savings, it's all the more reason to grab dinner or something at one of the nicer resorts so you can enjoy that atmosphere.

I was in Orlando a week or so ago and drove over to POR to check out the walking situation. Some of the standard rooms are far. And I mean far away from the food court and buses.

POR is absolutely gorgeous and the walkways are beautiful. We had stayed there before, but we stayed in a RR so I went to check out the Alligator Bayou side. I did some "practice" walks to see if my mom or small children would be okay doing them, and I decided that it would not be comfortable for them.

I have an upcoming solo trip and decided on Pop over POR, partially because POR is heavily wooded and some of the trails to the buses seem like places I would not want to walk by myself or with a young child late at night. I have never felt unsafe at Disney, but I would be concerned about returning to the resort at 1 am and walking alone on those trails. Pop is open and brighter and does not seem nearly as big to me.

Another issue I have with POR is that it has multiple bus stops, which can be frustrating with a young child. Generally bus service was good, but we had a couple of times when sharing buses not very much fun.

If having a pool slide is important to your son, and if queen sized beds are important, then POR is a no brainer. I cannot stay value with my husband because he will not sleep in a double bed with me (or with anyone, I think :worried:), but I took a trip once with just my daughter who was 9 at the time and we had an absolute blast staying at Pop. She loved the big wheel and the Mickey phone and all the statues, and we had such a fabulous trip. I think that for only two people and for a savings of $800, Pop is definitely my choice. You can even buy the dining plan with those savings and have some great character meals- and stay preferred for convenience.

Thanks! Yes, I think with it being just me and DS Pop may be the better choice. Walking long distances with a tired five-year-old can be a nightmare. He would love the theming, too, and we can use the extra money for things like the Halloween party, souvenirs and the dining plan. Thanks again!
