Our AKL trip this past weekend was "auto cancelled" by the Disney ressie system due to the system enhancements. Well it worked out okay as DH came down with the flu today (the day we were to be there!!!)

Anyway, we're rescheduling and the Deluxes we want are not available. Thinking of trying a mod or value once again.

We can get the POR or POP for the trip -- I would save about $150 if I went with POP.

Does anyone have any suggestions on pros and cons or either resort? I am interested in your views.

Thanks in advance

It looks like you have never stayed at a moderate resort from your post. We love the POR and I think it's worth the extra $150 personally. I like the additions that mods have over value. One of the biggest things I like is that I don't think you'd feel crowded at all at POR. I felt like lots of people were there with us at ASM ... I like having the restaurant and arcade and the Old Man Island pool is great if you have kids. The grounds at POR are very relaxing and worth the $ difference as well. You certainly can't go wrong with POR. :-)

And don't forget about the boat to DTD. That was one of our favorite things about this resort.;)

POR all the way! Two main themed pools you can swim in and all the quiet pools. The Fishin' Hole is fun to catch a fish and take a picture to say you caught one at WDW! The boat ride to DTD is an attraction all in itself!

I see you have a little one, therefore I would go with POP. I think the little one would enjoy the theming. Plus, there is a little kids pool and a Goofy play area with water jets. Just more for them to do, i would think.

I have stayed at both resorts, and I feel that POR is great for adults. Now, I do not have any kids, but I feel that they will enjoy POR, but not as much as POP. But, you can take the kid over to POFQ where they have a cool pool with a cool waterslide.

Personally, I'd go with Pop. I never thought I'd say that. POR was our least favorite of the mods. But it depends a little on your wants and needs and when you are going to WDW. We really enjoyed Pop. I should add that we chose a preferred room location and for us it worked well.

Pluses of POR - bigger room, towels at pool, sit down restauarant, boat to DTD (and POFQ) carriage rides, fridge in room (though not that cold), "Alligator Bayou" side has an extra trundle bed in room (though this makes the area more crowded, as famlies with five people in one room tend to pick this area), some people find the lush plantings and carriage rides romantic

Negatives of POR - buses system (LONG), spread out, theming at pool is not that great, so-so food court, "Alligator Bayou" is moderate that closest to a value (IMO) - no elevators on that side of resort, "Magnolia Bend" side is much nicer, overall resort theming is boring (IMO)

Pluses of Pop - great food court, good buses (come frequently, direct travel routes, no other stops), cute theming, cute kiddie pool and splash area, big gift shop, new resort, theming of resort is FUN

Negatives of Pop - smaller rooms, no towels poolside, no coffeemaker, no fridge, also large resort (room could be a bit of a walk to central area), can see vacant resort across the lake, can be crowded during peak travel times (Easter week), buses are often full to capacity

POR has a very nice TS Restaurant Boatwrights--good food choices for
breakfast or dinner.
POR is has very beautiful Grounds with bunnies, ducks, turtles (in water).
It's very quite and very relaxing. No Large Icons. The Main pool is great and has a nice kiddie playground. You can also visit POFQ and use there Main pool and Hot tub. If you didn't feel like going to the park one day you would
find that you would have a very enjoyable place to explore.
Have a Great Trip!!
We liked it so much we will be staying at POFQ and visiting POR again next trip.

I have stayed both places and liked them both but for different reasons.
I don't want to tell you where to stay but here are some of my feelings about both places...

POP:
Pro's: Doesn't share the buses with other resorts...small layout making it easy to go to food court or main pool...fun theme everywhere you look...Even the smaller pools are full of themeing and fun...
Con's: Smaller rooms...No TS dinning...

POR:
Pro's: Larger rooms with divider curtain at vanity area...very nice "upscale" resort with southern charm...extra activities such as boats & bike rental's...Boat ride available to DTD...BOATWRIGHT'S (I loved the Stuffed french toast for breakfast)...mini fridge
Con's: Shares a Bus w/ POFQ...larger layout which makes for longer walks to and from buses, food, & shopping...

If you asked my kids (DD14 & DS7) they would probably pick POP...My husband and I would probably pick POR just for the extra room & mini frigde (although we were part of a Pop fridge swap here on the dis during our last trip to Pop and loved it!)

All in all I don't think you can really go wrong either way!

We have not stayed at POP but have stayed at POR and at All Star Sports. I would choose POR hands down. In fact we are staying again in Feb. It just has so much more to choose from if you want a down day. Go fishing, biking, boating or take the boat to Downtown Disney. Plus you can take the boat to POFQ to use their pool if you like. Worth the extra $150 to me.

I actually had to decide between POR and the POLY this coming trip. I choose the POR because it is a very nice resort for a good price.
