Second family trip to Disney. First one we stayed at POR but are wanting more for extras this time (BBB, Water Parks, Cirq., etc.). Will not have a car. Love all of the parks. Will defn. use the pool.

Honest opinions on which of these we shoud choose and why would be great.

Thanks a lot!

I have stayed at both resorts and I really liked AsMu better. I liked that it was smaller. Therefore, it seemed less crowded to me. There were less people in the food court and on the buses. The bus lines were definately shorter and I did not have to stand as much as I did when I stayed at POP.

My travel time was August 2006 - POP and August 2007 -ASMU. Both times it was late August during free dining. Ironically, the parks were much more crowded in 2007 compared to 2006, but the ASMU resort was quieter.

The other difference was the pools. Both pools were less crowded at ASMu, especially the piano (quiet) pool. We actually spent a whole morning at the resort and really enjoyed the piano pool.

I enjoyed the theming at ASMu. I stayed in Broadway and it was a short walk and soooooo nice at night. I was even on the first floor and did not experience outside noise (except one early morning I heard talking and a suitcase rolling).

Both resorts were nice, but I liked ASMU more. That being said, I am spending a few nights at POP in Jan just to see if it is a little less hectic (although I'm thinking of upgrading to a mod).

I prefer Music too. We prefer it because it is quieter and more laid back. The kids loved the piano pool and the rooms were much quieter than Pop. Its our favorite value resort.

I would have to agree on the ASMU. We stayed at POP 2 years ago and DH said "never again". It was sensory overload on us adults. Kids everywhere, very busy and noisy. We stayed this year at ASMU exact same week and resort was very quiet, small, easy to navigate and very nice theming. (our only complaint was the beds were lumpy and too soft but I think we got bad ones because noone else has reported that):confused3

DH and I will be staying at ASMu for the first time next month. I'm glad to hear that it's a lot calmer than Pop's atmosphere. We've stayed at Pop our last two trips, and it sounds like we might enjoy ourselves a lot more this time around!

The crowd noise in the food court and occasional noise outside our room were things we just expected at the Value resorts, so we couldn't really complain too much. I think it would be totally different if it wasn't just the two of us, and we had kids in tow. Pop seems to be kid overload everywhere you go! :rotfl:

oh man guys... i am so confussed now.. i was going to book music and then after i showed pictures to my husband he liked pop better but he said he doesnt care where we stay. it will only be for 2 nights. it will be 4 adults in 2 rooms, i dont want a lot fo kids screaming...

so now i dont know which hotel to book :( we will be there in january in fact jan 9-11 do you think pop will be overran with kids that time of year ?

My DD and I have stayed at all 3 of the AS's and Music is the second on the bus stop. You have 3 stops Sports, Music and Movies so that means you are spending a lot of time on the bus waiting on the other stops when POP only needs 1. POP is about 2/3 blocks from Epcot and MGM (a short bus ride to)and very close to DTD, the AS's are the furthest to the SW of the property and they are almost 3 to 4 times older than POP. I agree POP can be noisy on the pool side but if you upgrade (usually for free if you ask) then you could request your room to be on the lake side where it is extremely quite and the parking lot side isn't too bad either. Jan shouldn't have a lot of people muchless children so you should have the place to yourself. I just like the local of POP and the newness of POP over the AS's and the themes are better too! IMHO, regardless HAVE FUN!!

Thanks so much.... we will be going to ak and epcot so how long are the bus rides ?

During our stay a couple of weeks ago (September 12-19) All Star Music only shared a bus when returning from AK and DTD.
All of the buses going to the parks went directly to parks after pick up even when the bus was less than half full.
My friend and I decided in the early afternoon of one of our Disney MGM Studio days to head back to ASMu for a dip in the pool. We were the only ones on the bus that trip!

--------------------------------------------------------

Pop has 2880 rooms.
All Star Music has 1864 rooms (including the 192 Family Suites )

So the bus lines are usually quite a bit shorter at ASMu
--------------------------------------------------------

All Star Music also has just completed a refurbishment of all of their rooms.'
THey have a privacy curtain between the vanity and the sleeping area (just like the mods) so it can be closed off thusmaking a small dressing area.

Here is a website with photos of the newly refurbished rooms at All Star Music.

Look at the Jazz Inn section with new posted:

BUSES:

Bus rides are quite short from the ALL Stars according to PassPorter.com

All Star Buses-CBR buses---POPbuses--PO buses--- Contemporary
MK 20 min---- 20 min-----25 min------10 min---20 min(mono)
Epcot 10 min-- 15 min-----20 min------10 min---15 min
MGM 10 min----12 min-----15 min------15 min---20min
AK 10 min------20min-------15 min----15 min---20 min
DTD 15 min----20 min------20 min-----15 min---35 min

It only takes 10 minutes to get to Epcot, MGM and AK from All Stars.
MK is 20 min away. That's the same amount of time it takes on the monorail from the Contemporary.

A WORD ABOUT BUS SHARING

To me Bus Sharing at the All Stars is really a non issue.

In the mornings during Park opening hours each All Star usually has a dedicated bus.
During mid day it is usually just our stop and maybe one more on the way to the parks. On the way back sometimes it is all 3 but often Sports and Movies share and Music has it's own bus back. Each of the All Stars usually has it's own dedicated bus back from the MK.
That is a big plus.
It seems like the Music bus stop usually has the shortest of the three All Star bus lines.
I guess some people who stay at POP see all 3 All Star names on the return sign of our bus stop when they head to the POP bus stop and think All Stars also has 3 stops on the way to the park.
(Even when we stop at another AS resort to load up it has not taken more than 5 minutes and we are on our way!)

Have fun at Disney wherever you choose to stay!:wizard:

I've stayed at Music and Pop. Liked both, but I gotta say Pop was more fun. I think the theming will appeal more to your daughter, too - lots of bright colors and the giant icons all over the resort. We didn't find it at all overwhelming.

Another vote for Music. I just returned from a trip on 9/25 and we stayed at Music and we loved it. It was very clean and quiet. I stayed at Pop last year in Sept. and I swore I would never stay at that resort again. I have booked the bounce back program for next Sept. and I have my ressies for Movies just because my DD likes the icons there, but if it wasn't for my DD I would stay at Music again without a second thought!!

I think you will be happy with either, but I prefer POP. Why ? The Music icons to me are the least Disney of theme of all and it does nothing for me. Not to say I'll never go back, the suites sound like something we will be staying at when all five of us go at the same time.

While I could afford to do moderate or more, I have stayed at POP last three stays on property because I liked the extras paid for with what I saved. I just got back from a trip during free dining. I am traveling with a disabled son who among other things has anxiety and panic attacks from noise, crowds, people etc - and POP is just fine for him. We knew all the rooms were close to full, yet we rarely saw anyone outside of our room, we face the lake and it's so peaceful, and we never saw pools or walks crowded. Never heard our neighbors. Bus lines looked average and they don't share buses ! (We didn't use, better for DS if we drive to parks) Food court was extremely busy at breakfast, but we always got a table and our food was still hot after checking out. I find the landscaping nicer than Allstars including the lake, walking path & benches and bridge. We watched the EPCOT and MK fireworks from our room. And the footprint is smaller so less walking. We are returning for bounceback next year.

Somebody asked almost the same question (except it was POP vs. AsMo) this morning. My response is if you're a smoker, you will like POP better, as it's a smoking free-for-all over there--people smoke all over, and smoking policies are not enforced.

If you don't smoke, any of the other Values are preferable (quieter and less smoky).

Just back from POP last week & I'd definitely choose POP over any of the AS values. We had no problems whatsoever with smokers. Food court wasn't overly crowded - no more than what we've experienced at any of the values. More of a food selection @ POP, more of a shopping selection in their store. Bus transportation was GREAT!! No sharing with any other resort. Didn't have to wait in line very long for any bus & we went to the parks at various times during the day. Hippy Dippy Pool was never overly crowded - tons of lifeguards continuously scanning and walking around the pool. Resort was pretty packed but you were never overrun with people around the resort itself.

Enjoy yourself..........wherever you choose - you'll be at Disney!! :wizard:

Thank you for all of the very very helpful replies. What I am stuck on is this: I believe that the theming at POP might be more fun and DD8 might think it a bit cooler, as a few suggested, but, then, think that my family would really the calmer, quieter, less crowded nature of ASMus. This was one of the reasons we liked POR. So, how do people feel about giving up the theming of POP to enjoy the more (I know this is a relative term) serene & less crowded nature of ASMusic.
Thanks a lot.

Never stayed on either of those, but stayed at All Stars Movies and it was GREAT! :cool1: We visited AllStarsMus and thought it was a pretty nice hotel too (just walked around and went to the shop so can't say much more).

If those bus times are indeed like that then I'm pretty sure that Music :rockband: is the way to go!!!

I was gonna stay at POP this december but a discount appeared for AS Sports and we are going there instead. The news about those buses made me a VERY happy guy right now about this change!!!:dance3:

Bump, other thoughts?

Giving up the icons of the Pop for the calmer nature of Music? Worth it?

I am staying at POP for the first time in a couple of weeks and I was torn between it and ASMu as well. After reading so much on these boards, what swayed me towards POP was the food court at POP seems to have a much better selection of food and the resort itself has more to see if we spend some time there. I would love to stay at ASMu as well since the rooms are all new but for my DD12, POP just looks a little more fun.

We just stayed at ASMU in August and loved it. The kids with me were older, 16,15 & 12, but they loved all the icons there. We had to take pictures in front of them all. The main pool has a cute fountain with Donald and friends...very Disney. The main pool was in the Calypso section so it was a very fun area. When we were there they had the pool games and movies going on also. We had a ball at the pool. We stayed in Broadway and the room was very clean and newly refurbished. I stayed at POP in 2004 right after it first opened and it was just ok for me. Also, we hardly ever shared buses at the All Stars as many people complain about. We have never shared in the early morning or at night, only if we returned at mid day.

i think ASmusic will get much busier now with all the reviews etc. But we chose to book Pop with next trip because i wanted to have 1 bus service that wasn't shared!
