My DH, DS6 & I are going in Feb for 3 nights. We have stayed at POP once before and my DS loved it. Should we go there again or try Movies??? Any help is appreciated.

DM and I have stayed at both and there seem to be a lot less children at ASMu. Also, since the ASMu is set up in more of a straightline, everything except for the Calypso (preferred) and the Jazz (standard) buildings are a pretty far walk from the Food Court. We liked both resorts, but would definitely pick Pop if we had a choice.

I prefer the All Star Resorts.
The rooms at POP and at the ALL Stas are both 260 square feet. They are also laid out about the same.

The POP rooms seem smaller because the bed is closer to the door with a bigger gap being between the bathroom wall and the far bed. At All-Stars this gap is wider..

You will notice in POP pic the bed is closer to the door by looking at how close the headboard is while at Movies you have a little more room.
The beds at POP are Bolted to the floor so you can't move them.
You can move the beds at All Stars so you push one the beds against the wall.
Thus giving you more usuable floor space.

I am 55 years old and travel several times a year. I often stay at 4 star hotels.
So the deluxe resorts do not have anything special for me.
All Star is like being in the heart of the Magic and that is where I want to be.

All Star Music is my favorite. It is quieter because more couples stay there. I love staying at the Clypso building. It is closer to the pool, food court and bus stop.

Here is a site with a map of All Star Sports and All Star Music.
http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/allstarmap.htm
Scroll down. All Star Music is at the bottom of the page.
The Calypso buildings at All Star Music are #1 and #10 are nearest to the food court and bus stop.
They are the preferred buildings and cost about $12 extra per night.
The Calypso pool at ASMU has Donald Duck.

Here is the map of All Movies.

The Fantasia Buildings are the preferred buildings.
The All Star Movie Fantasia pool has Mickey.
It is a great place to stay .
Preschoolers love it.
It is like being in the middle of a Disney Movie Fantasyland.

The buses are wonderful.

Bus rides are quite short from the ALL Stars according to PassPorter.com

All Star Buses-CBR buses---Pop buses--PO buses--- Contemporary
MK 20 min---- 20 min-----25min------10 min---20 min(mono)
Epcot 10 min-- 15 min-----20 min------10 min---15 min
MGM 10 min----12 min-----15 min------15 min---20min
AK 10 min------20min-------15 min----15 min---20 min
DTD 15 min----20 min------20 min-----15 min---35 min

It only takes 10 minutes to get to Epcot,MGM and AK from All Stars.
MK is 20 min away. That's the same amount of time it takes on the monorail from the Contemporary.

The All Star resorts have 1960 rooms each.
Pop has 2,880rooms.
That means more people in the pools, food court and in line waiting for the bus at POP.
When phase 2 of POP is built it will be 2 bus stops at POP and the 2 POPs will have the same # of rooms as the 3 All Stars.

Also All Star is closer to the main road to get to parks and thats why bus rides are shorter from there than from POP.

A WORD ABOUT BUS SHARING:

It is usually just our stop and maybe one more on the way to the parks. On the way back sometimes its all 3 but often Sports and Music share and Movies has it's own bus back.

I guess some people who stay at POP see all 3 All Star names on the return sign of our bus stop when they head to the POP bus stop and think All Stars also has 3 stops on the way to the park.
(Even when we stop at another AS resort to load up it has not taken more than 5 minutes and we are on our way!)

I love the All Star Resorts --they can't be beat. I have visited WDW more than a dozen times with the 1st time in Oct. 1971. It was brand new. I've stayed at FW, Disney Inn, a few the of Hotels on hotel Blvd., CBR and the towers at the Contemporary. I got to see the MK from my balcony at the Contemporary and I'm happy I got to experience it once. I just prefer the All Star Resorts.
The theaming is pure Disney.
My last 4 visits have been at The All Stars and this fall when we take dd,dsil, and our grandson age 3 we are staying at the All Stars Music. I thought about AKL and even though we can well afford AKL I just wanted Alex to experience the Disney Magic :wizard: at the All Stars on his first visit.
Where else can one find Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse at the pool?
Have a great time at Disney!

I've stayed at and loved both, for different reasons. If it helps you make up your mind, I'd rather stay at ASMu if I'm going solo, and prefer Pop when we go as a family.

Your heading says ASMU which is Music but you mention Movies in your post so I assume you are referring to Movies only. I can't comment on All Star Music but I have stayed at both POP and Movies and my kids loved them both. I preferred the food court at Movies and didn't feel it was as crazy crowded as Pop. I do think all kids should get to try out Movies at least once due to the over the top, fun, pure Disney theming. Since you have tried Pop already, I would suggest giving Movies a try.

We just had this discussion too. We have stayed at AS movies and Pop before. I liked As better but the buses hat to stop at all three AS resorts and the busses were very crowded. So we chose Pop this time. They are both nice resorts.

Just had to face this exact question on Thurs night when I decided to book a quick (and cheap ;) ) 3 night trip for just me and DH. While I first thought POP since DH has never stayed there, we ended up booking ASMusic because it is truly one of our favourites. It just doesn't seem as "crazy" as POP, Sports or Movies.

Your DS would probably like the icons more at Movies, but my kids are just as happy to walk around the 3 different resorts and don't really care which section our room is actually in.

You'll be happy with whatever you decide. :)

Thanks for all the replys. I am sorry about the typo. It is AS Movies me are considering, not Music. I guess that's what happens when you try and sneak on the boards and not let your kid kick you off the computer.

Thanks

I think I read somewhere that the Hotel Tax is more at the All Stars than Pop Century. i dont know if its true or not.

My fiance and I have only stayed at Pop and we loved it! We will be there again in March!

Now that I know you really meant the Movies I think your DS might enjoy a stay there. Kids seems to love that resort since its the mosy Disney of all of them. Its very crowded and slightly more expensive than the other values, but it is a lot of fun. :Pinkbounc

AFAIK, all Values always cost the same, with seasonal changes applying to all of them. It is true that the *tax* is higher for all the AS resorts compared to Pop, because they are in different counties. Has anyone here been quoted a price (same season, before tax) that was different among the Values?

We just got back from ASMo and on our way in on ME we drove by lots of resorts, including Pop. My kids (DD7 and DS11) were not nearly as excited about the icons and theming there as I was. I thought it was cool, but most of the references were lost on them. They also kind of shrugged off ASSp and ASMu but LOVED ASMo's theming, icons, and pools. I was kind of nervous because they've only gone with me and my parents and my parents book POR so this was our first Value trip. We loved it! I'm sure either one has it's great points, after all they both are Disney!

I'm pretty sure that when I was searching for prices for my most recent trip the ASMo came up as slightly more expensive than the other All Stars. It hasn't always been like this, but I think the popularity made them raise the price.

I wasn't sure which one to stay at between the 2 either. Boiled down to DS (8) making final decision and he picked ASMo. I'm sure either one are great.

The prices as far as I know for the room rates are the same, wether at any of the all stars or pop. The difference is that the taxes are different, the reason is that they are in different counties. The all stars taxes are a little higher than pop. This is info that I found on another post, if I can find it again I'll link it.

Hope this helps.

We've stayed at ASMo and my ds loved it!!!
