Hi.

My family and I are off to WDW in a week and are staying at Pop Century. Ive just found out that there may be construction work on going at the moment. If you have stayed there recently can you let me know if that is true, and what impact it is having on the finished half of the resort. Thanks for your help.

I'm interested to know the answer to this question as well as I will be staying there next week.
If it is construction at the other, unfinished portion, I don't see that it would have a huge impact on the current area as it is not really 'close.'

I would like to know as well i'll be at pop first week of september but i heard there was some construction going at one of the pools at ASSports i might be wrong though

POP is awesome. My family and I have been to POP at least 4 times and it is always our first choice even over some of the moderates. (The exception POR) Just remember it is a very big resort. (one of the three biggest on property.) have patience with the food court and be early with the bus transportation. It is an awesome place have fun!!!! You picked a great hotel.

We just returned from two weeks at Pop Century (July 2-14). We had a wonderful time!!! We were in the 70s, our room was the first room right next to the Big Wheel (1st floor)! It was a great location!!! We never heard our neighbors!! In fact, one morning we slept in (til about 8:30 or so) and we never heard anything outside our door!!! Food court and bus service were fine all week - we never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus (with one exception - 22 minutes at Typhoon Lagoon, but we had just missed the bus).

There was no construction going on any where at Pop Century that I saw, while we were there. My DD & I walked down by the lake and I didn't see any work being done at the other part. One of the days we were there, they were scrubbing down the big wheel, and some of the other icons.

We had a GREAT time, again, at Pop Century!!! Enjoy your stay!!!

I have a stupid question: are there elevators at Pop Century, or do you always have to climb stairs?

I know, I am specialized in stupid questions :(

Thank you very much everybody for all your help. I was a bit worried about possible construction (If you look on google earth it looks like major building work going on!) but you have all put my mind at rest :thumbsup2 . For those that have just come back, I'm really glad you had a great time and for those about to go, I hope you have a brilliant time as well - you might just see me there- Ill be the pasty white scotsman who really needs to get a tan! (we,ve barely seen the sun all summer over here!):wizard:

Thanks again!

Stupid Question Master the 2nd piping in here - but how is the shrimp lo mein? I'm absolutely dying to try it.

The construction is mentioned in a couple of the guidebooks over here, though they didn't know when it was starting, and when I did a google search about it, it sent me to the DIS Home site above which mentions it, but said it wasn,t a problem- which in turn was linked to this forum, so that was a good thing!

We just returned from POP and di not see any constrution at all at the resort. Had great time we were in 60's non prefeered on the back side of building was quiet only had problem one night with our neigbors. It was our last night and the people in the room next to us did not return until after midnight and partied till 3 in the morning so didd not have a restful night on our travel day but other wises i would stay there again. and this was our 8th trip and only our first at a value. If you have any specfic questions you would like answered feel free to post and i will answer them or you can email or pm me.

That so-called ‘construction’ is Phase Two of Pop Century – the Legendary Years. There’s been little to no activity on those buildings since before Classic Years opened in late 2003.

The "construction you see is the shell from the currently abandoned "Legendary Years" building. When we were there in May, definately no work going on....weeds and brush have grown all around the site. Check out Canadian Guy's (a mod here), link to pictures.

Have a great trip:wizard:

We stayed in the 50's section, big pool. we had corner room facing the lake.
Very quiet and peaceful. Of course, except for the toilets.....:cool1:

There is no construction on those buildings and if there were i doubt it will bother too much down to classic.

Yep, elevators in the middle of each building, behind the large icons:thumbsup2

eta: Oops, meant to add that there are NO stupid questions, ever!! :)

We were just there last Friday for a few nights- no construction and the icee machines were working- woo hoo! We were in the 50's building, preferred, right off the main bldg. on the backside. It was a walkway that often had many CM's going to/from work and we never heard one conversation or noise. We're checking back in today for two nights, then moving to WLVillas to celebrate my son's birthday. This time we're in nonpreferred which can sometimes be a hike, but I like walking around the lake, seeing the icons, etc. ---Kathy
