Pop Century vs. Port Orleans Riverside

My wife and I are going to Disney shortly and would like for those who have stayed at both Pop Century and Port Orleans Riverside Resorts give their view of each. We have stayed at Riverside on numerous occasions but have some reservation about Pop Century. We are retired, and although we love kids, we wonder what the “noise” level (both music, rooms, and crowds) would be at Pop Century. If you have experienced both resorts and wish to share your experiences, please do so.
Thanks

I have stayed at both resorts and I liked both of them. PO was with whole family (mom, dad, 3 kids), PC was only mom and daughter. Yes there were kids, but at both places! I was pleasantly surprised with PC. It was my first stay at a value resort, and even though there were lots of people, it was quiet enough in the rooms. Actually, there was more noise at POR because there was a quiet pool near our building and we were there during the summer. Noise until 1 AM at least. PC was a January stay, and due to weather and earlier closing hours, it seemed like people were in their rooms earlier. The food court at PC is nicer I think, more choices of food and drink. A more active feel to the place. I like the laid back feeling of the food court at PO. I felt the rooms were very compatible. I really didn't notice that much difference between the two. They both had 2 double beds, only POR had a trundle under one. There were 3 adults and 1 child in PC and we had plenty of room. The bathrooms were very similar. Toilet and shower in a separate room, with vanity sink outside it. I enjoyed the memorablia at the PC. As an adult who was born in the early 60's, much of the display was stuff I knew, or had, or remembered!!

We never had any problem with busses either. Both locations were good. All in all, I found them very good in each of their own respects. If it was just my DH and I, I would probably book POR simply for the beignets!! Piano Bob and the grounds of POR. However, if you are going in September, $55 a night for value resorts just can't be beat!! Good luck with your decision!!

I have not stayed at POR, but stayed at Pop last Feb with my 4yo and my sister. She is retired and commented that she could imagine staying there with her grandkids, but if it were just her and her DH that she would opt for somewhere a bit more quiet. It's not the number of children, but more the bad insulation. We heard people every night making noise outside. More adults than children, actually. I would stay at Pop again, but I don't think that my DH and I will stay there if we go without children like we're hoping to do this fall.

Do yourself a favor and spend a few extra dollars and do the moderate. I have stayed at both. POR several times.

Are the rooms noisier and the music played louder at PC? I have read comments that you could hear people staying in adjacent rooms and that the music in the “common” areas was loud. I would think that during the first week in September it should be somewhat quitter than at other times of year.
I checked and rooms are still available at Riverside so I still am in a dilemma.
Thanks for the input.

But if it were just DH and me, I think I would feel differently.

I haven't stayed at POP, but I have stayed at Allstar Movies and I've also stayed at POR. I don't think POP would be "horrible" or anything. I just think that POR is more adult than POP and MUCH nicer theming. (for adults that is)

If you wanted to try some place different but like POR, you could give PO French Quarter a try. :D

I didn't think that the music was played too loud in the common areas. As to the noise from other rooms, I didn't hear anything other than the toilet flushing, but we were there in February so a slow season. The noise was just people passing by the room. If I stay there again I will try to get a more out of the way room, not facing an area where poeple walk by the room a lot.

My dh and I stayed at POR for our honeymoon this past January, and stayed at Pop for our trip this May. I have to say that I prefer Pop over POR. Don't get me wrong, POR is great. It has beautiful landscaping and is the most deluxe of the moderate resorts in my opinion, but Pop just felt more Disney to me. We enjoyed the food court much more at Pop - it just seemed to have more of a selection, and I liked it's setup better. The walk to our room was shorter at Pop (although the walk to our room was prettier at POR). Dh and I are the type to leave the resort pretty early and come back after closing, so we didn't notice the noise that might be there during the day. Actually, I don't remember any noise at all -- probably because after a long day in the parks, when my head hits the pillow I'm out. :D On future trips my dh and I will continue to stay at Pop. We love the price(!!!) and I like how it just feels like Disney to me. Either way you'll have a great time!!

We have stayed in Port Orleans French Quarter in 1992 when it was known only as Port Orleans. Our next six trips we stayed at PORS then known as Dixie Landings. We felt very comfortable at Riverside until January when (after 9/11) it was a “ghost town”. We don’t want to experience that feeling again, therefore, we are made reservations at Pop Century and now are questioning our choice. Go with what we know and feel comfortable at or venture out to something new?

How many nights will you be there? How about splitting your stay?
