Well, we are back (1 1/2 weeks ago now ;) ) from our 1st stay at POP Century. I have to say that we really Loved this resort! :teeth: We even got to stay an extra day with Jeanne! Just thought I'd mention some of the things we noticed during our 12 night stay -

We checked in around 12:30 on Weds 9/15 - probably waited 1/2 hour or so to check-in. The line was a bit longer than I had expected, but I think it was just the time of day it was. No big deal. We were very happy once we got to the counter though & got a great room with everything we wanted. At the desk I asked if we could get a (NS) room in the 50's section, top floor & w/a view of the lake - our wishes were granted & our room was even available immediately! :bounce: This was great news - so, we unloaded the rental car & checked out our room.

Our room was very fresh & clean & we enjoyed the cute decor. I must say that during our entire 12 night stay we never once heard our neighbors talking, or much noise at all from anywhere. The only complaint I have is our neighbors that insisted on going in & out, and in & out again with their door lock-bar open so the door consistently slammed. They were only there during the last 2 nights of our trip (they were escaping the hurricane from the coast.) Definitely not the fault of the POP - I just wish people would realize how loud this really is when your neighbors are trying to sleep.

We ended up swimming almost every afternoon in the hot September heat. We swam in the Bowling Pin pool twice, but chose the larger Hippie Dippie Pool every other time. For some reason the water seemed warmer in the larger pool. (Not sure if it's possible or not.)

We really enjoyed the POP Century Food court. We purchased our refillable mugs on arrival day & got great use out of them the entire trip. We ate lunch/dinner at the food court 3-4 times & got snacks in the evenings many other times. The food was better than your standard fast food type restaurants IMHO. My hubby had a Turkey Panini sandwich that was excellent & I enjoyed the Penne Pasta there. The pizza isn't gourmet by any means, but is pretty decent for this type of pizza.

Jeanne decided to pay us a visit while at the POP. We didn't end up finding out that the MCO airport was closing on Saturday until almost midnight Friday. At that point, it seemed difficult to try & get out early (especially since Jeanne's path had been so erratic.) We were scheduled to fly out Sunday afternoon, but didn't know yet how long the airport would remain closed. I called our airline (Continental) Fri night at 11:30 & she didn't even know the airport was closing Sat. So, we decided that we didn't want to end the vacation early & have to leave in a mad rush. We decided to ride out Jeanne at the POP. My only complaint with this entire process is the fact that we had to check back in 2-3 separate times. Apparently, when adding a night to your ressie, they must issue you new keys. The 1st time I waited in line I was put on the "waiting list" to stay an extra night (although, I was told I was "guaranteed" a room & not to worry about anything.) Then later we had to go back down (& wait in line again) & get new keys. This was actually the 3rd set of keys for us due to our ressie being split in 2 originally.

Overall, I think we're happy with our decision to wait out Jeanne. She was the only way that we had one entire day to relax at the resort! ;) We purchased a Disney board game at the gift shop to play & POP played Disney movies on 3 different channels continuously on Sat - Sun. We stockpiled junk food in our room on Sat night (because the food court would be closed Sun.) All of the ice machines were out of ice by 7 pm Sat - but, the food court began giving out free bags of ice - which we got. The funnest surprise at the POP during the hurricane was the characters we met in the lobby. Sat night & Sun night - Mickey, Minnie, Pluto & Goofy were in the lobby for pics. They were a lot of fun to see at the resort. Overall, where we were, the storm wasn't bad. Lots of wind & rain. I think we were still asleep when the worst part of the storm passed over us. Overall, I thought that Disney & POP Century handled the hurricane very well.

Sorry this post got so long - we enjoyed the POP so much that we'll be staying there again in January when we go down to visit my parents in FL for the week. We can't wait!!! :) Please feel free to ask me questions - thanks for reading!! :)

We were at the Pop Sept. 18-25th in room 3423. (I think) It was the second room from the elevator. (REALLY CONVENIENT) We were also on the fourth floor and facing the lake. We probably saw each other and didn't even know!!

The only complaints I had with the hotel were...
Mousekeeping! They only left us two maybe three shamphos during our whole stay there!! We are a family of five and thank goodness dh brought his shampo and I also broght the kids shampho. Also one day we arrived back to our room for a nap @ 1:30 .m. and she was at the room next door. So, we didn't get anything that day.

Also, I thought the bus situation was great. EXCEPT the morning we had Crystal Palace reservations before the park opened. We waited over 25 minutes for a bus to come. One finally pulled up and we thought GREAT! But no, he was talking to someone on the radio and opened the door and said they changed my route. He pulled out of the parking lot, turned back in and picked up a small group waiting for MGM!! About 5 minutes later our bus finally came. We were late to Crystal Palace!!

We swam in the bowling pin pool twice. Once it was freezing!! We went over to the main pool and it was warmer. The lifeguards said that they hot not starting heating the pools yet for the season and several people were asking about it.

I'm glad you had a GREAT TRIP!!

Hi Kayla!

Small world! We were in Room 3438 - I thiink on the other side from where you must have been - we were a ways from the elevator. We must've had the same mousekeepers - no new shampoo for days. We finally went down to guest services & they gave us 3 new bottles that lasted us the rest of our stay. I think we had a new mousekeeper the last couple of days. We started getting new soap & shampoo & extra towels every day for the last 4-5 days of our stay - which never happened the first week.

We also loved the busses - all were very short waits except for a couple of mix-ups here or there. Overall, I thought POP had the best transportation out of many different resorts we've stayed at. It was really great not sharing with 2-3 other resorts.

Glad you guys had a great trip, too! :)

It really is a small world... Myself and my mother were 2 floors below y'all in 3236 from the 23rd-27th :)

Hey Tyler!

:) I was always checking the nametags of our bus drivers during our stay at POP, but we never saw you. We may have seen you right at POP without even knowing it! ;)

Thanks again for all the great info on the POP - we enjoyed it so much that we'll be back in January. :)

I kept checking all the bus drivers name tags too!! HA HA! I started to ask a few of them which route you were on, but I thought they would think I'm crazy!!! I wish I had known you both were so close! We unfortunately missed the Dis meet at the Magic Kingdom and didn't get to meet any diser's! :( Oh well there's always next time! We are going back just DH and I in either late Jan. or February. When are you going arizonacolbys??

By the way I have to say my 3 year old sons name is Kolby.

Kayla :)

arizonacolbys,

So happy you enjoyed the POP! Was your room near 2456? That was our room last Feb abd we could see Illuminations - think I've written that on this board a million times now!

Our room was also clean and I thought it was cute - the other day I was looking through photos and was suprised at how much I enjoyed my first value resort. Really thought I'd hate it..I'm spoiled.

Gee,everyone had such a great time..too bad you did not run into one another! I want to go back soon!

Welcome back, everyone!!!
:sunny:

How do we post pictures?? If we all posted pictures, it would we be cool to see if we actually saw each other!!! Who knows we may have run into each other.

Kayla

Kayla - we actually have 2 labs (that are like our children for now ;) ) & their names are Arizona & Colby. I've always really liked that name. We didn't make it the DIS meet - the MK was just crazy that night, we barely saw Spectro from where we ended up. I think we're targeting the last week of Jan to stay at the POP again.

BaciBecky - Our room was 3438 - so, I think we were in a building over from you. We didn't actually see Illuminations from our room, but frequently walked around the corner from our room to watch them. One night MK's fireworks were at the same time & we could see them both at the same time. It was a nice perk at the POP. :)

Yes! We saw MK Wishes too one night! Pretty neat for a value resort!

Christine

we always hide our shampoo's and leave a tip so I they
leave us more.

did you try this ?

glad you loved it, we try pop march 05 for the first time
cant wait!

I THOUGHT they heated pools year round, oh no!! I am a chicken
in chilly water.

Pools will be heated in March! Not to worry!

This might sound awful, but I save all the shampoos etc to bring home for older munchkins - they love the shampoo etc! So, I put them away each day and housekeeping restocks. Actually, I remember when we used some they would not restock until the bottle was gone.

At the GF they are incredible about restocking - you can have as much as you want/need and includes lotion.

Did you request a location at the POP??

:sunny:

Question for all of you-what is the best section to get at the POP? It will be just DH,DD,DS and myself for a vacation in Dec and I want to be sure to TRY and get the best spot.

Question for TYLER-the all knowing of POP::yes:: Are the pools at POP warm enough, on a normal day, in December? My kids really would like to go swimming.

THANKS FOR THE INFO

Insmom ~ Gosh, I hate to say this, but your best bet might be trying to look through the POP thread and read everyone's fav locations and buildings:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=6640495#post6640495

My favorite is 50's - love Lady and the Tramp, and you can get a location close to the main building but very close to the Bowling Pin Pool as well..which is not far from the main pool area. 50's are not preferred so you can save $10 a night, but still have a great location.

Another reason I esp liked it was because on the the side we had (building 2, 4th fl, 50's section) room 2456, we could see the top of Illuminations and WISHES (when they ahd WISHES) from our window - that was neat! Also, there is aprking right behind the building (we looked down on the parking lot). I would also like to be facing the pool.

A lot of families seem to like the 70's section, but I don't recall which building. Actually, I wonder if this has to do with the memories of the icons? I was a kid in kid in the 50's so Lady & the Tramp are special to me...my kids were born in the 70's - maybe they would like that section better? Both 50's and 60's are the same distance from the main building, food court, bus etc.

Here's a great link to photos, maps and room locations by Chairbornerangr: http://haysllc.com/Disneyworld/Resorts/PopCentury/index_files/frame.htm

ENJOY the planning!!!

Hope this helps!
Christine

Did someone call me? :)

Having never actually stayed at this resort yet... I would choose bldg 1 in 50's or 0 in 70's for convenience to services etc.
