Great news. It looks like we'll be coming back to WDW in December 2007. We were at POP in December 2005 and loved it. This time our stay will be longer. Probably Dec 15-24 and leaving Christmas day. Does anybody know when the other half of POP Century will be completed?...Are they even working on it? I briefly looked at the thread that discussed the debate between on vs off-site but we loved POP so much last time we want to come back here again. We'ew considering staying the first 5-6 days at POP then the last 4 at a moderate.
Thanks in advance. You all were so much help last time.

As of Sept it had not been touched........just a dreary shell of a place :sad2:

In Sept DH and I walked to the end of the bridge to see what we could. The buildings are totally abandoned - quite creepy at night. The foliage past the bridge was overgrown and clearly trying to hide the buildings - as if you could miss them.

When we stood at the far end of the bridge, looking at Pop, I can not imagine how bustling it will feel if/when the other side opens. The lights, 20 thousand people, etc.

No opening date for Phase II has yet been announced, though. Currently the resort consists of of five two-building sections, each of which is themed to a decade from the 1950s to the 1990s (Phase II will tackle the 1900s through the 1940s).

As far as I knew...

Those rooms will mostly be constructed as the Family Suite set up that you currently see at the All Star Music.

I'm "assuming" that Disney is waiting to see whether those suites will be successful before they tackel constructing a resort designed around the suites. It was orginally slated to be a room replica of the classic years, but changed earlier this year with talks of the Family Suites.

It has been announced that the Pools will be:
A Route 66 road sign
A Soda Bottle
A Crossword puzzle

Not sure when construction will begin or be completed... I doubt it will take long once they break ground again.

:disrocks: DH asked last night if I knew when the rest of Pop was going to be finished. Said I would hop on today and find out... ooolala! Question answered even before I asked it!!:thumbsup2

Is it true that alcohol will be banned from the 20's building, and part of the 30's (because of US prohibition from 1920-1933)?

I also heard that the 30's building will have it's own restaurant, simulating a soup line, and tenement style rooms (allowing up to 10 people in one bedroom) to emulate Depression era living conditions.

I saw some arial views of the area and it looks so dreary! While I have not visited POP, I can only hope that the unfinished buildings will be completed sooner rather then later!

:rotfl:

A few weeks ago I had a dream that I was on the Legendary side and it was horrible! The check in desk was in a shack and the buildings were falling apart! Then I went to the bridge and saw the Classic years all new and pretty on the other side! What a dream! I sure hope that when they open they don't look like my dream!!!

No, guests in the 20's building will just have to mix their own "moonshine" in the tub.

I hope and pray this is right! Lots of family suites!!

This is cracking. me. up.:rotfl2:

When we were at Pop earlier this month we asked the front desk. They told us that there was a problem with the contractor for those buildings and it's tied up in court right now. They had no idea when it will be completed. I agree it's eerie but it was also pretty neat to see what a Disney hotel looks like before all the fun stuff gets added on!

DH and I were just standing outside our room in November talking about when/if they are ever going to finish Pop. We LOVE Pop and I especially can't wait to see the new section open. Wouldn't it be awesome to be able to sneak in there all deserted and check it out? I am a big fan of the creep factor and those unfinished buildings are super creepy!

Not that I would ever do it, nor do I think anyone should. ;)

We love Pop, too. I'm also a "creep factor" fan. If I locate those pictures, I'll be sure to post it here.
Has anyone found them yet?

Early this month we stayed in the 50s facing the lake & always saw the bldgs across the lake. It didn't bother us at all. I just love being at POP, its our favorite place (not that we have tons to compare) LOL

We stayed at Pop in October. First time there & it was great!! We got upgraded to a preferred room which we were very grateful for...didn't realize how huge the place is!!
Anyway, I spoke to Mousekeeping one morning about the "building across the way" & was told it is used for storage for now. I guess they don't have any immediate plans to use it for guests.
