Pop Century Room Renovations

I was there last week and spoke to several CMs at both AoA and Pop. They looked at me like they had no idea what I was talking about when I asked about possible dates for gondola construction and possible bridge closures.

I wonder when they usually inform CMs about upcoming construction at their home resorts.

I got the impression that nothing was coming anytime soon, but I guess the powers that be could be keeping most everyone in the dark.

Thanks for asking! I just feel at this point we're not going to know anything until the work actually starts and we hear about it here. I kind of figure the CM's at the front desk won't even know about it, even if it actually is under construction. I was once told, there was no bridge connecting AofA and Pop, but she was sure a bus would get me there. :hyper:

Just posted ...

Gondola groundbreaking at Pop Century is imminent. Within next 72 hours, probably.

So, if the room rates go up, will that affect the November 2017 reservations we already have & paid a deposit on? What I mean is will the remaining amount due jump up if room rates go up?

No. Room rate increases wouldn't go into effect until the refurbishment is complete. Even then, Disney might wait until the 2019 increases are announced. Or not.
So does that mean the Hourglass Lake bridge will be closed?
Possibly. Depends exactly where the gondola will run.

Wow! Thanks for the heads up!

I was wondering if he was just meaning an announcement would happen at D23
and therefore a symbolic ground breaking but now I see this ....

If they do a stupid groundbreaking ceremony .... really? They makes me wonder about priorities on attractions.

I'm told it'll be at D23, probably with coverage of the groundbreaking.

ETA for completion? By 2019 Star Wars Land?

Definitely.

How soon are you able to make a room request?

Any time from the day you book up until 4-5 days out. When within that time frame makes zero difference.

We will be staying at POP in the middle of December and our online check in date is in November. Also, what's the most accurate way to make a room request?

Call the Main Reservations line and add your room requests to your reservation.

I wonder if your POR neighbors were our GF neighbors! Only joking a little because it sounds like the same family. They left the door propped open with the latch and let their kids run back and forth (screaming) from the lounge. Every time the kids left the room, the door slammed against the latch. It was awful. Luckily they left the second day we were there. I was ready to request a change even if it meant moving to an outer building and foregoing CL. I'm so glad we have never had neighbors like them again!
They DO sound like the same people!!!:scared1: I can't believe there are people out there that think this is acceptable behaviour! Yikes.

:scared1: I hadn't considered that. Will the construction be there in Nov???
Nobody knows. It's hard to imagine exactly what they need to do or how long it will take. I guess we'll just have to see what it all looks like and sounds like, once they start.

I can't imagine it not being loud when building a gondola. At least for a little while. The silent building of a transportation system would be groundbreaking for imagineering.

So much for those quiet lakeview rooms.

True. Maybe some 50's lake views rooms will still be relatively quiet.

Wow! Thanks for the heads up!

Don't forget he is just one of the blog/vlog/twit folks. One of the bigger ones BUT still room for wrong.

But won't the gondola construction in the lake = not so quiet, and construction worker foot traffic perhaps?

I would think there will be noise, traffic and visual blight. If this station is going in the "overlook" they talk about added to the bridge .... then guessing they have to put in retain walls to empty the water in that area. Install deep and strong pilings to be able to support this thing which will involve cranes, pile driver (ya know boom boom boom) and more. Imagine the bridge will be closed or somewhat restricted. They aren't going to bring all the stuff needed out there on a boat only so I imagine land impacted OR more of that lake drained.

Who knows - hopefully Disney will announce this weekend - but everything so far is speculation from it's even happening to which hotels it will actual service. Maybe I missed but no where have I seen the word gondola written. If it's true and POP is included expect a couple years of construction, the loss of the pretty lake view forever (70's might still be peaceful) and prices to rise.

All the equipment will have to pass the 50's room. The path is expected to be in front of the 50'.
