Hello all
Not sure if they allow this we are planning a trip in 2023 and I am the planner and trying to get a rough budget in place for my family. I know the occupency is 4 people but my question is can we fit 2 adults and three kids in a standard room the youngest is three is his age considered the fourth person? My daughter and son-in-law have a unexpected addition to their family and was wondering if they do one room (2 adults, a six year old, a 12 year-old, and a three year old) I am guessing not !!

No. The person over the max allowed can only be 2 and under to be allowed (if that makes sense the way I worded it). Meaning, if the max occupancy is 4, you can only have 4 people. The 5th person is only allowed if they are 2 and under. If that 5th person is 3, they are considered an additional person and they are in violation of the fire code. That 5th person then would not be eligible to ride the Disney bus from the airport or any other perks of on site stays like EMH.

The most budget friendly option on site for a family of 5 is a moderate resort that can house 5 people, right now that is POR and CBR. Of course, who knows what will happen in the next 3 years.

Are grandparents going to be on this trip? Or another relative who can include the 12-yr-old on their reservation? Otherwise a moderate is the best price for a family of 5, or if everyone else wants POP maybe this family could do a family suite at AoA to be within walking distance.

You need a CB sleeps 5 room, or an AoA suite. The theming at AoA is so much fun!

A two year old does not count for occupancy, but a three year old does.

Keep in mind, often two adjoining rooms ends up being better than upgrading to a family suite at a more expensive resort. We did this on a trip and it was great to have extra space, another bathroom, etc. It was not that much more costly than a family suite and had more space.

Just a technical note...

If you want to request (they will not guarantee) a door between two rooms, you need to request CONNECTING rooms.

If you request ADJOINING rooms and that request is granted, the rooms could be next door, around the corner, or depending on the hotel across the hall and your request would have been granted.

The words mean VERY different things in hotel-speak. All connecting rooms will also be adjoining (as they are next to each other), but not all adjoining rooms connect.

Thank you and yes hotel words and language is very different I am a GM of a hotel in MI and sometimes people look at me like I am crazy

No way I would put that many people in one room Luggage and people too much Connecting rooms would be much better. I do understand cost but being on top of each other everyday will get old..

Yep. I remember being on a trip with the youth choir of the church where I was youth minister - it had been planned since before I started so I was just along to help chaperone and get to know the kids and parents. We got to one hotel and a couple of the parents were about to go down and yell (I knew them well enough by then to know that they were NOT going to be calm about it) that their requests for rooms had not been granted. We were all on the same 2 floors - guy rooms on one floor and girl rooms on another - so I asked what the requests had been. "Adjoining rooms, of course!" they said. I looked at the rooms across the hall from each other and calmly and politely said "We do have adjoining rooms." They said "No, they should be on the same side of the hall and have doors between them." And I explained that to a hotel, that would be connecting rooms. They decided to deal with the rooms as they were.

I was put in charge of making reservations for trips after that.
