Hey everyone, I'm going to Disney in August and staying at Pop Century. Right now I have a standard room booked but Ive heard the standard rooms are far away from the front and the pools and requires a long walk. Do any of you think it is worth it to upgrade to a preferred room which would cost another $10 a day? Thoughts?

Thanks!

There are many standard rooms that are as close, if not closer, to the main areas (dining, transportation, pools). If I was going to pay extra, which we never do, I would do preferred pool to guarantee a close spot. We have stayed at pop several times, and have always booked standard. It isn't a bad walk, even from the furthest room. :)

Not necessary.
I really wouldn't want to be in the 80's or 90's section. But there are plenty of great standard rooms in the 50's, 60's and 70's section.

Good to know, do you think it would benefit me to call and ask for a "closer" standard room or just wait and see what I get?

You can make general requests (certain decade, near transportation) during the online check in process. If you want a specific building, you need to call. We always request building 9 (in the 90s section) because it is very close to the bus stops.

Ironically, I prefer standard, and prefer to not stay in preferred. :smooth:

50's lake side is our favorite. The walk really is not bad and we love the sights while walking to the food court, plus you have the benefit of having a great view of the generation gap bridge, hourglass lake, and Art of Animation across the lake.

Totally agree with all. The resort has a fairly small footprint and no room is terribly far. I'd rather have a few snacks each day than pay for preferred. I also do not want to face any pools, which many of them do. We have stayed many times (see below) and all over the resort. The longest walks will be from 80's and 90's and that is also where they put all groups. 60's is your dead middle section and only reason I don't book is I drive and that area is the farthest from parking. 50's 60's and 70's have standard rooms that face the lake, are quiet and not a long walk. I prefer 50's lake view and our walk is under 5 minutes to main hub. I will say that my phone in requests began to be ignored so I decided to do the online check ins and make my requests. They have been honored every time since. Where else can you pay value standard rates and have a beautiful lake view outside your door?

This is my lake view 50's and the choices you have for online check in.

Standard rooms are totally fine. I always request a room in the 50s section because the bowling ball pool is great and usually uncrowded. The resort is small enough so that even the most remote rooms in the 50s section really aren't that far away. Request a room on the ground floor for a little less walking :-)

I agree. I'm actually bummed that when I booked our trip with Free Dining, my only option was a preferred room. I loved the lakeview from the 70s last trip. Definitely wouldn't do a preferred if I had a choice.

I too prefer standard rooms. I love 60's lakeview. Gorgeous view, so serene, plus it puts you right by the bridge....its a short walk over to AoA! :goodvibes:

This was my view:
