Pop Century or All Star Movies?

Hi All,

We can save a little bit of money by staying at ASM instead of POP. Thoughts? It's only $54, but we're pinching every penny.

TIA

We stayed All-Star Movies in September and we loved it. $54 is enough for a Counter-Service meal for my whole family with dessert - I'd stay there and pocket the money!

Can you get the same savings for All Star Sports? I would stay there because of its position as first on/off on shared busses.

I would take an All-Star over Pop any day.

I'd stay at Movies. It's in the middle between the two other All-star resorts. Easy walk to either to check them out and their food courts.

They don't always share busses, if you notice one of the lines is shorter hop into line for the shorter one and walk to Movies.

Movies is actually the 3rd All Star resort...Music is in the middle. Having said that I'd still do Movies, not a fan of Pop.

Your right! It's been almost 15 years since I was there. I'm not a fan of Pop anymore either. I do love the food court there.

I don't recall much of a difference other than the buses. Staying at Pop was more convenient (single bus stop) than staying at Movies (also stops at Sports and Music). As for food courts, the basics were the same, although some of the All Star food courts are getting a bit old now...

We've never stayed at any of the all-star hotels, but my cousin has stayed at both movies and pop and she likes them both about the same. Pop is my favorite resort and we stay there pretty much every time we go, so of course I would recommend that hotel. I also like the fact that we can walk over to Art of Animation to eat at the food court there (love the surf and surf sandwich) and see all the cool buildings and decor. That said, if saving the $54 will enable you to stick to your budget, I am sure you will have a fabulous time staying at one of the all-star hotels! You just can't go wrong with any of the Disney hotels!

Thank you all for your answers. I think we'll stay at Movies. We had such a blast there the first time (only went for three nights last time!) We liked the food court, and enjoyed our room as well :)

We stayed at Movies last April. Didn't have a good experience and we have stayed at several values. The service was terrible, the A/C didn't function properly in either room (shut off at night, no way to override). I actually ended up getting a partial refund after a constructive criticism email to them. Bus service was terrible to the MK. Awful.

We just stayed at Sports last week. Cheapest of the values. It was fine. No A/C issues, service was good. Bus to the MK was again terrible though. BUT, at least we were first on. At movies buses would pull up already full.

We have stayed at both and for various reasons my daughter and I agreed we like All-Star Movies better.

We personally only experienced the bus sharing midday like between 10:30 and 1:00. And while we didn't share with another resort staying at Pop, we did experience what felt like to me long waits in the mornings.

The guy did tell me when we checked in at Pop that we were allowed to use the pools at AofA. Not sure how true it was because while I was excited when he said it, we never made it over there.

Excited to be returning to Movies in May.

Would you mind stating why? I'm planning a split stay for October, and am struggling with where to do the first 2 nights. I had thought Pop, but then I've always been happy at the All Stars. Why didn't you like the Pop?

We don't like the theming or the larger size compared to the All-Stars.

Thanks for this thread. I've been wondering the same thing. My friend who is a disney expert in my eyes recommended Pop. But I see that I will save a little money by choosing All Star Movies and I think my kids (4 and 6) would love the theming. Plus, I like that Movies has a splash pad which I think they'd enjoy, too. We're driving so we'll have our car and I think hubby will prefer to drive to the parks rather than take the bus anyway and that was the only disadvantage that I saw to Movies.

Movies and Sports have had their food courts refurbed, Music is getting done this fall. We don't usually share buses, but when we do I don't mind because the buses arrive more often so there is less wait.

Haha. I was told this too. All Stars have 6 pools and we can use any of them... but we've never gone to the others to swim :rotfl2:

People who have stayed at the All Stars find Pop to be very big -- there are 50 percent more rooms than either Sports or Movies, and almost double the number of rooms at Music. And while I don't mind running up the stairs to the third floor, especially in Calypso (preferred) I would definitely be taking an elevator every time if I was on the fourth floor at Pop. Even with the fourth floor, the farthest rooms from the main building in Pop or AoA feel much farther away than the farthest rooms in any of the All Stars (but AoA has a 3rd pool in the LM section, and it's awesome). If I stayed at Pop again, it would only be in a preferred room.

And with so many more rooms, it just feels like a lot more people... everywhere. Especially in the food court and the main pool.

Why not try Pop in a preferred room, or even AoA? There are advantages, especially if you plan to be at DTD, TL or DHS on those days -- Pop and AoA are much closer to those.

I have stayed at ASM and POP twice. Since you are trying to save as much $$ as possible I vote ASM. PoP is not much different than ASM and $54 is kind of a lot of money to save. Like another poster said that could be a counter service meal :) I VOTE ASM
