Could someone who is there now or just recently let me know what non-carbonated soda is available at Pop Century from the dispenser.

My son just got braces and has been told pretty much no carbonated drinks. He was really looking forward to the refillable mug.

I would love to tell him there will be options but don’t want to get his hopes up until I know for sure.

Thanks

I am curious. . .why no soda? That wasn’t a restriction when I had braces, so I am curious what the soda would do to them. I had several food restrictions but no beverage restrictions.

There aren’t a lot of non carbonated options for the mugs.

Blue Powerade is available, I know that for sure.

Not sure why they would specify carbonated drinks. Any acidic or sugary drinks are usually mentioned by dental professionals due to harm of enamel. Not really just because of braces just practical dental health advice. Carbonation does contain carbonic acid but its a weak acid compared to citrus or other acids. Sports drinks are some of the most acidic and laden with sugar. Milk and water are often the only "safe" beverages by dental standards.

As mentioned, Powerade, minutemaid Light Lemonade, and some resorts have Vitamin Water. There is also a brewed ice tea dispenser with several varieties both sweetened and unsweetened. I like to mix the unsweetened Ice Tea with the Lemonade.

I had braces, as did both my kids. I have no idea why the orthodontist would say not to have carbonated beverages.
Plenty of regular dentists suggest skipping carbonated beverages.

No carbonated beverages but sugary drinks are okay? No Perrier but lemonade and Hawaiian Punch?

Both of my kids had braces and got them off within the last year or two. Other than general recommendations from dentist to not drink soda or sugary drinks, there was nothing specific for braces.

I think this is just an "incomplete" comment from your orthodontist. In general - no sugary drinks - carbonated or otherwise - is just pretty standard advice from anyone in a dental profession (and doctor's). Yes - carbonated drinks - may be pretty acidic, too - so a double whammy - sugar and acid. But nowadays - a fair number of non-carbonated drinks have the same issue.

Frankly - I'd just let your son drink what he wants on vacation (or as you normally would have in the past before braces) - and worry about cutting his carbonated drink intake at home. Think of the millions of folks who had braces...... do you think many of them really altered their diet much?

My son has braces as well and the orthodontist recommends limiting sugary drinks but that is in regards to general dental health not specific to braces. I agree with the pp, I wouldn’t worry about it and let him drink soda while on vacation. Maybe have him do an extra brushing if you feel it necessary.

The carbonic acid reacts with the braces. He can have 2 per week.

Thanks for the info everyone. As long as he can have lemonade and Powerade he will be happy. I know we could probably not worry about it for a week but we might as well follow what the orthodontist suggests.

Hmm...my son just had braces put on in December. Nothing in the instructions mentioned carbonated beverages.
