Pop Century....Disney should have.........

I really don't see what the difference of the words on the buildings is to oh say... billboard type HUGE "things" (whatever you call them) on the buildings at ASMu (atleast at Broadway buildings where I stayed. LOL)

But anywho.. just have to say..
That Big wheel and rubic's cube belonged to my children, who are 34, 32, and 27..are they the older generation, since many of these icons are from their youth?
Thank you. I'm 33 and don't consider myself the "older" generation just yet! Hey man... I'm not even quite MIDDLE age, let alone old!
And btw- my youngest has a bigwheel and my oldest still plays with her rubik's cube. They are 2 and 8... are they the "older" generation? I think not. :jester:

Well, I'm 35, does that make me old?

I can't wait for PC to open up. My son in 11 and he is also looking forward to staying there.

The great thing about Disney is that they have something for everyone. There's no way I'd ever stay at the Fort Wilderness Camp Grounds. However there are many that love it.

If PC isn't your type of resort, don't stay there. If you don't AKL, pick another resort.

I'm sure when PC opens up they will not have any trouble booking it.

LOL!

The idea is OK I guess but the buildings just look like a cheap Model 6. Its one thing to offer less expensive rooms but these just looks cheap and not up to Disney standards. As you look at them from I192, they just look like a cheap bunch if hotels not connected to WDW at all...smjj

I agree with the hideous designs and colors that Pop Century is given. For some reason when the resort was first mentioned (oh about 1,000 years ago) I thought it was gonna be a very subtle design or something. Look more like a regular resort. I would probably stay there because it would be new, but it's just so unattractive.

Could someone post a link to some pictures of this new resort. This thread has made me very curious to see this hideous, poorly designed, ineptly themed resort for old timers...

Here is one..and if you want to see it from the air, the other Pop century thread on this board has that link:

http://www.travelhero.com/prophome.cfm/id/128840/hotels/reservations/

Keep in mind, that if you don't like the All Stars already built, and consider them Motel 6 style hotels, you prob won't like this one. If you always stay at mods and deluxes, chances are this one won't get your vote. I have read many reviews on these boards about the AllStars from people who have never stayed at them, and if I had listened, my grands would have missed staying at their favorite resorts (we don't always stay there..hubby and I also like POR-Riverside..but when you make several trips a year, the AllStars are a great bargain).

So right now, since none of us have stayed at Pop Century, it's really just all opinions on the outside look..some of us like it, and think the kids will like it..some hate it. Voice mail and data ports in the rooms already give it a leg up to me!! Here is a review I just found on an official Dis site:

"At its completion in 2003, the Pop Century Resort, which will be located near the Wide World of Sports complex, will add 5,760 budget rooms to the Disney World total.

Different sections of the resort will be themed to different decades of the 20th century, highlighting the fads, music, and catchphrases of each era. Imagineers describe it as being "like a fun-filled time capsule." Larger-than-life pop icons like Play-Doh, Yo-Yos, cellular phones and Rubik's Cubes will tower near the buildings. Pools will be shaped like bowling pins, computers, soda bottles, and highway signs. The bright colors and oversized props appeal to kids, so expect Pop Century to have the same zany sense of fun as the All Star Resorts."

Just checked out the Disneypix site.......what an awesome site!!!!

They have a few great aerial photos of Pop Century.

LOL I find gray hairs and am now being called the "older generation" I'm 31, not ready for the nursing home yet :D

I think the idea of Pop Century is cute. They also are supposed to have the older section with the 10's, 20's etc there too.

The Big Wheel was my FAVE toy as a child so I would be happy to stay there.

Thanks for the links. Those are terrific aerial photos! I think the resort looks very similar to the AS resorts. As to being Disney related I found this quote on the DIS resorts section:

In speaking about the theming General Manager, Rick Allen told Dreams Unlimited Travel,
" The 1950's for example, will have a big Jukebox icon, with large bowling pins for the staircases. For the 1960's we'll have Baloo and Mowgli. We're lucky enough to have some great Disney icons in various areas, and Jungle Book is one of my favorites."

Unless they've changed the plan they will have a direct Disney connection with Jungle Book.

I would certainly give it a try!

Right now, there's a small model of ‚l‚‰‚ƒ‚‹‚…‚™ from "Steamboat Willie" at Disney Gallary, Tokyo Disneyland. It says it's made for Pop Century Resort! I can't wait to see HUGE Mickey at Pop century:Pinkbounc

It's a part of the exhibition called "It was All Started by a Mouse, A Celebration of Mickey Mouse.". Sorry to hear that you can see it until March 16.

LMAO!!!!!!!!

All I know is THIS old timer is hoping Pop Century is open in time for us to change our reservations to there. I think we'd all love it.

Ps. my kids LOVE Jungle Book. They are NOT old. LOL

I think they will wait until they see how world affairs play out, and how tourism is affected. WDW has plenty of resorts to offer, and they are not nearly full at this time (and yes, this includes the value resorts, as well). Why should they open a brand new, sprawling resort, pay for the energy required to run it, its upkeep, as well as the CM's to staff it if it is not needed. I am sure if WDW had envisioned what happened to tourism, the resort would not have been built in the 1st place.

Enjoy what Disney has to offer.. something for everyone. Remember that everyone doesn't have the same tastes, and are entitled to their opinions, and that Disney theming doesn't mean that there has to be Disney movie icons everywhere.
