I booked through AAA. ... My DD 5 has Asthma and last year she had a a really bad coughing spells. We are going the same time this year. She now uses a Nebulizer and other meds to. She coughs so much she throws up! :worried: . I just want to make sure I am getting the medical fridge . I asked my AAA agent if I needed a note from the DR and she did not know. I just want to be pre pared. I just want to know what I need.

I don't know what medication your child is taking, but if you get a note from your doctor, I'm sure Disney will give you a free fridge.

We have never been asked for any proof in requesting our fridge for medical purposes. However, we do carry original prescription scripts should we need refills quickly for any reason. This preparation has twice made a potentially big problem into an easily managed solution.

We used to put the fridge request on our room preference record, but now simply make the request with Mousekeeping upon arrival and check-in.

There are certain medications (controlled substances - your pharmacy will know which they are), where the pharmacy may need to have an original written prescription script. For many medications, if you use a national chain (like Target's pharmacy), they can temporarily transfer your prescription to one of the chain's pharmacies in the Orlando area.
I found this out by personal experience. Aside from being upset/frantic when I discovered I had not brought my medications with me, it was a pretty much totally painless process. I used my cell phone to call my home Target Pharmacy from the airport. They looked up several Targets with pharmacies that looked close to WDW and then I called the individual pharmacies to see whcih was closest. The 2 pharmacists communicated, transferred the prescription and contacted the insurance company to get a variance. The medication was ready for pick up when I arrived at the store.
This is something to check out (ideally) before you go in case your state has some quirks that don't allow prescriptions to be transferred this way.

Also, in the past, some people have reported that the "medication refrigerator" they got was a small dorm size refrigerator and some have gotten a shoebox size countertop refrigerator.

Thank you so much for all the info. That is great info regarding meds. We do Walmart so I might just have them do that. The biggest thing to lug is the nebulizer. We will be driving so I guess I can put it on my lap :thumbsup2

Wow, that's great. I didn't realize that they had dedicated medication refrigerators, no bigger than they are needed to be. The shoebox size one must really save a lot of space in the rooms! Excellent idea.

I'm not positive they still are using those little ones because no one has reported about it for a while, but they did have them.

Interesting. They'd help in other ways too: They'd surely curb any abuse, such as folks without real medical problems deceptively trying to avoid the normal fee for renting refrigerators.

I think you are right in that. Those little refrigerators are big enough for medication, but anyone who says they need one for medication (when they don't) just to get a free frig, would be pretty surprised to get one of those.

Another very good reason is that the tiny ones are much easier to store and tranfer in and out of rroms. You can probably keep 4-6 of the little ones in the space of one dorm sized frig. Plus, a Housekeeper can easily pick up and carry a tiny one. The bigger ones would need at very least someone strong to carry them, or a cart.
