I thought that I read on here that you can not control your own thermostat in Pop Century rooms, but there was some way to override the pre-set temperature. Can someone please let me know about this. I am very hot natured and I do not want this to be a problem on our vacation.

Are all of the resorts like this or is this just at the values? I do not think I have ever stayed anywhere that you could not set your own temperature.

You can override the temperature setting at Pop - I"ve had no problem with this.

Where the problem comes in... is that the thermostats are motion sensitive. If they don't detect movement in the room, then they reduce the cooling of the room to save energy.

If you are seriously uncomfortable, and can't manage to find a setting that correct that, a call to the front desk can have engineering drop by the room adjust this to your liking.

Have a great trip!

When we were there last year they were digital and you entered the temp you wanted. My DH was able to get it very frosty in there. One night it did get a bit warm over night so we just set it lower to start with the next night and it was fine.

Someone will show up to post the way to do it, but you can override the motion sensor. There's a "magic" combination of keys that overrides the automatic shut-off for a period of time.

We didn't have problems with it in our room at SSR. It would be warm when we came back to the room in the evening, but it would cool down soon enough. I never noticed it being warm at night when we were sleeping. (LOL, I may have finally found a benefit of having to get up for the restroom every two-to-three hours each night.)

The one time we did have a problem with the thermostat was the day we had maid service. (It's not every day at a DVC room.) The maid apparently didn't know about the motion sensor, and didn't like how warm the room was when he/she got there. As we sat on the couch watching TV that night, it occurred to me that my teeth were chattering. They'd set the temperature back to 65 and the fan to "On" instead of "Auto". I had to go out on the balcony for a while to thaw out.

I've heard that you can float a helium balloon in your room to "fool" the thermostat.

We used the balloon trick at the Contemporary last year and it does work - but the sensor was in the bathroom so that was kind of freaky walking in there at night and having this balloon attack you!!!:rotfl2:

I am still a little confused with all of the different answers that I received. I understand that you can override the motion sensor. BUt is there a thermostat in the room that I can lower without having to do any kind of over ride? Do you have to over ride the thermostat anytime that I want to lower the thermostat or just over ride it at night to keep it from warming up while there is no activity in the room?

Also, are all of the resorts like this?

Sorry for all of the questions?

we were just there and the lowest setting on the thermostat was 68 degrees, which is were we left it at. I was ok but it seemed at night it wasnt really all that cool. I would have preferred it at maybe 66 degrees.

You can set the thermostat to whatever you want. No override required there. Each guest can set their room temp to whatever they want. The rooms at POP aren't all the same temp. Where the "override" comes in is how long the thermostat will stay at the temp you set because supposedly there is some sort of motion sensor and when it does NOT sense motion, it turns the a/c off. So if you are in the room and doing your thing, the thermostat will be where you set it. Some have had issues at night when everyone is in bed and not moving and the a/c turns off or they have been gone from the room all day b/c they are at the parks and come back to a warm room. From previous posters, I have learned that if you push the POWER button and the DOWN ARROW button at the exact same time, you will see the letters "bp" where the digital read-out of the temp normally shows. This bypasses the sensors in the room and you can set the temp to whatever you want and it will not shut-off regardless of motion. I have seen some posters say this only last for several days and others say they never had to adjust the temp again. Also, I have read that mousekeeping will sometimes mess with the thermostat and that can re-set the bypass and you could still come back to a warm room.

Let me add, that all this information is not from my actual experience at the POP (but will be in 3 weeks :cool1: ) but is from posts I have read over the past year of planning our trip. So, I can't say for sure if it works, but like I mentioned, I will find out for myself in 3 weeks. I have seen this topic mentioned enough here on the DIS and this bypass solution mentioned several times so I do believe it will work.

:lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I don't think the motion sensor worked in our room as every time we went in there, it was FREEZING. If I get back to POP, then I surely will fix the thermostat as I came back plugged up from the chill. Why I didn't? Most likely laziness after a long day at the parks.... :goodvibes
