Poor Old Nine Dragons.....

We ended up at Nine Dragons by accident as well. It started to pour, and it was the place we ended up at to stay out of the rain. I was pleasantly surprised by their food and atmosphere. I will definitely go back.

I haven't been there in several years (don't know why, just don't think about it when it's time to make my ADRs). I did have a very good lunch there several years ago though. I had a nice table next to the window overlooking WS. When the waiter came, I asked what the spiciest thing on the menu was. He looked at me kindof hesitantly, pointed to the very first item on the entree portion of the menu, but then quickly said it was really too spicy for most tourists. I laughed, told him I was from Texas, loved spicy foods, and nothing could be too spicy. I'm still not sure what I ate--it was sort of like hot and sour soup or pho, but alot thicker with meat and vegetables and much hotter. It was really good, but the waiter kept coming by asking me if I was sure it was alright and if not, he'd be happy to replace it with something else. I had to keep assuring him it was fine. I couldn't finish it and he asked if I'd like to have him pack it up to go, which he did. Then without me asking, he brought me a big bowl of free ice cream ("too cool your mouth off"). It had started raining while I was in there and he told me they weren't busy and to please stay until the rain stopped. He was just so cute. He was so worried that my dish was too spicy for me. Hey, I'm a Texan, there is no such thing as too spicy. I don't see it on the menu now, but whatever I had that day was very good.

Nine Dragons is one of my sons favorite restaurants on property. I love that we don't need an ADR to eat there because when we do it's almost always on a whim. The food is good and the atmosphere is nice. We wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Fast forward to our last visit. I couldn't believe how close we were to the neighbouring tables. The woman beside our table couldn't even get up to leave because she couldn't fit between the tables. We had to move our table for her to leave.

I think a lot of Disney restaurants have done this. Liberty Tree Tavern used to be one of our favorite places to dine and when they got rid of the characters they moved the tables so close together it's uncomfortable. I guess they left the room between tables for those character costumes, but once they were gone they saw $$$ signs with the thought of moving more tables in.

We've never eaten at the Nine Dragons restaurant but we did see the open air type restaurant....is that it or is that the CS? I missed my carryout at AK last year and really wanted some when we went to Epcot/China.....but just didn't get to it.

I thought it was good too, (and I also had the honey-sesame,) but like you said, most people can get the same at home, and for much cheaper, so it just isn't worth a return trip for me.

Ok, bear with me on this...We have family friends from England that own one of the largest chain of Chiness Rest. over there(he was Knighted for it, I was told...know he was on the Queen's B'day list), and still have family in Hong Kong. When we ran into the adult kids during Food&Wine,(their son is married to DD best, best friend, their daugther & her family live in Hong Kong now), all of them were on their way to eat at 9Dragons! I asked what ever for? and they answered that it was very close to the food that they grew up with in the bussiness...and while different then what the daughter eats in HongKong, was still very good. I still haven't eaten there, but it did make me think!

It was on the old menu but removed from the new menu. I asked a server and he said you can order it anyway. Me and my two sons order it every time even though it is no longer on the menu.

I've never eaten at Nine Dragons because I'm the only one in my family who likes Chinese food no matter how good it is.

Years ago when I first came to the Dis, I recall someone here who said their family got sick after eating at Nine Dragons and that they would never go there again. It seemed like for YEARS, anyone who asked about the restaurant, this person would go over the details of how sick they got at 9D.
Haven't seen that person for a long time, I hope the food didn't wind up being their undoing

People annoy me soo much when they claim food poisoning as the place they last were at. The chances of that are rare. They either had a bug or it was something they ate many hours before.

ITA! I just thought it was interesting that one person may have scared off potential diners and that the whole "tale" seemed to go on for a long, long time.

I've had unpleasant illnesses just like everyone else, but I don't necessarily think it was ever due to food poisoning (at WDW or anywhere else).

We just ate at Nine Dragons on Tuesday. The reservation was made because it was suggested by my boyfriend's parents but I was wary because of the negative reviews.

Let me tell you... we were pleasantly surprised. I think it was the most enjoyed meal of our 6 night stay (we ate at Tony's, Teppan Edo, Le Cellier, Via Napoli, and Raglan Road too). I got the Honey Sesame chicken, he got the Canton Pepper Beef. We shared the General Tso's steamed chicken dumplings which were amazing. They did have a special for DDP guests that included a chicken dim sum appetizer (when you usually don't get an app on that plan) and General Tso's duet (dumplings and regular) was on the little menu too.

Well, to this day I'm regretful (guess I should get over it, it's been 18 yrs) because mine was horrible. We still ask ourselves with all the ethnic choices available, why we chose to pay that much for Chinese food considering we ate Chinese take out every other day of the week!

There are some restaurants on Disney property we've had really, really bad experiences at with the food and service. After a few years and after we've tried all the other restaurants on our "must do" list, we decided to give some of them a re-do. (I'm not naming the restaurants because it honestly doesn't matter.) I was pleasantly surprised with the staff and food. So, just because a restaurant was bad many years ago, doesn't mean it will be the same today. However, with that "bad" memory still fresh in your mind, I would try all the other restaurants on your "must do" list and then re-try Nine Dragons. You might be pleasantly surprised.

So I tell people all the time what a wonderful experience DH,DD (2.5 at the time) and I had a Nine Dragons in Fall of 09. Food was tasty, hot, fresh, and service was excellent. Our server really went out of her way with DD getting her kids chopsticks and her own little bowls and stuff for her to share off my plate. I also have a shellfish allergy and they were wonderful with that (as are all Disney restaurants IMO...)

I actually think that Nine Dragons is extremely underrated, and I think its because of the fact that everyone tends to think the same thing, they can get Chinese food around the corner at home. And that was my initial thought, which is why it took me quite a while to try it. In my opinion though, the food is far superior to most Chinese resturants I've been to in the US. And the service was good too. I've never been for dinner service, usually for lunch (right around the time they open and you can be the first seated). I cant quite remember what the name of my favorite dish is, but its beef and peppers with white rice (I'll see if I can dig up a pic). Absolutely delicious. And lunch prices make me feel less awful about splurging on the ginger cake for dessert.
